Thank you for your comment. Yes I remember reading about the wind in the willows connection. There are many good walks in the area like Cock Marsh and you can walk to Bourne End. The Stanley Spencer Gallery is at the end of Cookham High Street. He painted a lot of his works in the Cookham area.

I'm not sure about that one. But there was a military base at Church Crookham near Fleet in Hampshire.
