Ag Pilot Vlog #1 Bad Weather Beets

- Follow along for a day in the life of an ag pilot in the Red River Valley. This is my first attempt at a vlog so hang in there I promise it gets better! Today Chad and I struggled to get some sugar beets sprayed due to low clouds and rain. It's a tough decision to make, growers need their crops sprayed but we have to stay safe and make sure our chemical doesn't get rained on after applying. Stay tuned for the next vlog as I hunt down caterpillars in soybeans.

As an airline guy (Yes. I love my work) I’m absolutely fascinated by the life of an Ag Pilot. Had three roommates in college who went this route. What a fascinating segment of aviation. Thank you for posting. Please be safe. (as if you wouldn’t.)

I just finished a 36 year career in aerospace manufacturing both commercial and military. I have built parts for most anything with wings including the space shuttle. I have never flown...
I always wanted to be a crop duster pilot. It seems it wasn’t meant to be. I’ve tried several times to work on my comercial but always something would happen that I couldn’t afford the training and now I have gotten too old. My heart and willingness are still in but unfortunately the years keep passing by. You are blessed to be doing what you love. I loved the first blog as an ag pilot. May God bless you with many years in this profession.
Great video! As a farmer this was good for me to see how my crops are sprayed. Kinda made me feel like I might throw up when you lift up and turn haha

My oldest son and my middle son farm my land and my youngest son wants to be a crop duster and I support him 100%!! I also told him I would like him to start out in a Cessna 188 of some sort, maybe the Husky?? Anyway, I subscribed so keep the videos going! We will watch em!!

How old are you? Did you go to a school that specializes in training you to be an ag pilot?

PS. My youngest is 27. My reason for offering to help him do this was that his bros have a JD 4940 sprayer but don’t have the time to run it in a timely manner and I don’t want him to just be a hired hand, but he would take care of their needs first and foremost then anything that came his way after that. No response necessary, I just thought I should put that out there. Again thank you! Stay safe out there! And I look forward to more videos!!!
P.P.S. Thought I should clarify something. I might have made it sound like he has been just sitting around doing nothing. He graduated from SPC in 2012 with a degree in welding and went to work building frack tanks, then into welding/fabricating the high pressure plumbing on hot oil trucks, then fabricating & welding plumbing lines between oil storage tanks for OXY Energy Corp. It’s time to crop dust now!
I'm deff. Following. I'm considering getting in the ag side of aviation and found an ag pick-up that I might be able to get my hands on...how difficult is it to get 137 endorsed ?
I appreciate the response! I have not yet contacted my FISDO, still kinda doing preliminary research etc. I'm an A&P among other things so I've read through part 137 in the FAR'S. In my case I was considering finding a school to help with knowledge on the handling of economic poisons aspect and some experience, ultimately the possible plan would be to become a 137 operator, I was just curious how lengthy of a process it was to A. Get endorsed and B. Become a 137 operator. I.e. did the person you worked for have you practice for 10 hours then sign you off when he thought you was ready and that's it? If I decide to go forward with it I would be doing a lot of reading on the handling of economic poisons and I've found the recommend books on it, I was just curious if it was a viable option, or, if I want to get into ag do I just plead with anybody that can get me a seat? And I'm aware they would probably put me on ground services first before hopping in a plane. I understand working under someone you learn a lot from them, the ropes so to speak, however if that option is very slim is is possible to go out on my own...any thoughts? Will you become a 137 operator or? Thanks for the info, I believe there's no dumb questions, I'm just trying to feel it out and read all that I can to learn, knowledge is power.
Do ag pilots make enough to take the winter months off? Or is there other tasks you do with snow on the ground
experienced ag pilots make anywheres from 100k up to 140k that ive seen might be different in other areas

As much as I wish it were true, it's hard to hit the bar during the season. Flying hungover = a very unpleasant experience

if i were you i would get the surgery . i know , you're thinking " well surgery is expensive and i only make around 20,000 in a year . but trust me when i say you need surgery for your deviated septum
