Crazy how Charles has 21 submission wins and is a 3rd degree Jiu Jitsu black belt yet was submissioned by Makhachev. Volk is one of the best strikers in UFC history yet got beaten on the feet by Makhachev. Being able to beat both of them in a short span of time then knock out a living legend like Volk just shows he's levels above the rest. 13 undefeated win streak. He took away a 33 combined win streak plus ko'd Volk, who had not been finished since his fourth pro fight 10 years ago.

Based on his performance in his first fight .. Volk became a little cocky .. especially because of all the yes men that are in his camp.
That's why he thought that he will beat Islam even on a short notice fight.
But he was wrong by underestimating the Champ
They fought for 28 total minutes in the 2 fights and Islam won 27 minutes and ko'd Volk. If Islam isn't #1 pound-for-pound now, just stop making the list.

i dont think these guys wud b a back up fighter for any1, their mindset is kinda different, they fight headon, prepare properly for a known opponent but don't shy away to fight wth any other opponent if needed once their camp has finished.
The first fight showed a lot about Makhachev.
The way he handled adversity was very impressive.
How he balled up and cowered while Volk pummeled him until the clock stopped? Lol one more minute in the round and Volk would've finished him. Clearly, he either wasn't 100% or evolved a ton in these 8 months but he didn't "handle adversity" in the first match. He was cooked. The clock saved him.

Khamzat has a cardio/pacing problem. He would have lost if it was 5 rounds. He sprints and goes so hard in the 1st but he didnt really damage Kamaru

If this fight went beyond 3 rounds, Volkanovski, who had 12 days' notice, might be affected. Going beyond 3 rounds can be tough without a full camp.
However, the fight got finshed with a head kick knockout in the first round, and that kick was intentional, not accidental. So, there won't be any short notice excuses. This is a solid victory for Islam Makhachev. - Joe Rogan.

Oh man, I feel for Volk. It's tough to see him go through this, and I'm not sure if he can return stronger from this setback. It might impact his prime time, and I'm concerned that fighters like Ilia Topuria could pose a challenge, especially given their youth. Islam did great man.
I see this as the beginning of Alex's end. You hardly find a fighter at his peak getting knocked out and came back stronger. It'll continue to affect him for the rest of his career.

Forget the fighters for a second, Javier Mendez needs to be recognised as one of the greatest. On short notice he managed to find a weakness in one of the all round best fighters on the planet and implement a gameplan with his fighter. Javier has trained champion after champion after champion, the guy is incredible.

Javier showed up a week before the fight as an “honorary coach”. Islams real coach is named Magomed Bagandov from Nurmagomedov MMA school. There’s a reason AKA fighters were all winning by grappling it’s because DC was the real coach of that gym, Javier is mostly the gym owner.

It was tough to see Alex looking the way he looked out there. From the start of the round he didn’t look like himself and was plodding instead of his usual side to side in and out movement. He was rarely switching stances also and once he started eating those body kicks I knew it was just a matter of time. Wasn’t even shocked by that outcome. Alex signed up for this though so fair play but you could tell Alex wasn’t in the fight from the start. Whether that was mental or physical I’m not sure. Hats off to Islam though dude is a beast, can’t wait to see what he does next. Definitely think he will be double champ in a year or so.

Islam is #1 pound for pound. if he is given a chance to move up, it might be his only challenge. I'll give Charles 1 more shot at it than move up or do reverse order is fine.

Cummon DC how come Chimaev deserves the title fight? He was never the champion in 170, he fought Gilbert and it was close. Gilbert was also coming off loss to Kumaru. And Today he was nothing special, nothing wow Kumaru after 2 loss with no fight camp at 185 would have beaten Chimaev if It went 5 rounds. I can understand making money is good but cummon don't sell championships, it will downgrade the level of competition as well as champion. Now a days upsets have became so common because of this.
