- Aston Villa fans react to Kortney Hause scoring the 88th minute headed goal that won the Premier League game for Villa against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
But 3 minutes later, United won an injury time penalty and despite Cristiano Ronaldo being on the pitch, it was Bruno Fernandes who took the first penalty since the return of the United legend; but the usually reliable penalty taker blazed his spot kick over the bar.
There was tension until the end as United desperately tried to grab the equaliser but it was the Villa fans who celebrated taking the win - singing long after the final whistle after beating United in the Premier League for the first time since December 2007.
United suffered a second blow after losing England players Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire to injury during the defeat.

This comment section shows how childish both Villa fans and players are, also Mike Dean not punishing time wasting, but I guess that's the state of this league at the moment.
Check out Pogba leaving West Ham's ground for a childish reaction a few games ago. Or even when the United fans broke into their own stadium last season. Or when 90% of that squad couldnt bear to keep their runners up medals on their necks after Villareal. Mike Dean the 12th man did his best. TBF he got more screen time than Ronaldo. Imagine having to rely on a ref against Villa.
@@sebblackmore3697 Time wasting is a tactic both Newcastle and Villa tried using, only Newcastle were penalised for it. That’s like saying ‘imagine relying on a referee to give you a penalty for being fouled in the opponent’s box’. And the thing about the Utd fans storming the stadium was for a good cause. Sure Pogba was immature, but one player is certainly less than your entire team.
@@uatom How do you explain the 9 minutes of injury time over both halves that was awarded then (4 mins in the 1st half and 5 in the 2nd) by Mike Dean? Does that just count as normal Fergie time? Remember when United scored a winning goal vs Brighton when the game was over, and both teams had to come back out on the pitch?🤣 Or explain the fact United have received the most penalties of any PL side but some margin(9) over the past 3 seasons? Better players dribbling into the box? Or just lumping balls into the box and inshallah United?
I know United got two injuries but both players were able to stand and play on with those knocks. So its not like a Harvey Elliot broken leg where the injured player has to stabilised and carried off on a stretcher. Where did that 9 minutes come from?
I didnt see any United players or the captain calling for yellow cards in game either. That is the usual tell tale sign but i didnt witness that.
When you say 'imagine relying on a referee to give you a penalty for being fouled in the box', that is what happens my friend. Solksjaer was literally talking about that point in the pre match press conference. When coaching and new signings dont work, lets apply pressure to the officials. I didnt see Villa or our manager doing any of that either.
United and the referee were both predictable on Saturday im sorry to say and Villa had a gameplan to counter against it. Its like calling Chiellini immature for grabbing the scruff of Saka's collar in the Euro final. No its part of the rules and legitimate and he was rightly yellow carded for it. Cards would have sprung up on our side if your claim had any weight to it. But you dont get 9 minutes injury time for nothing. What about the medals in the Europa league final last year? I didnt hear your point on that?
@@sebblackmore3697 The reason for them removing the medals for being runners-up is obvious, they shouldn’t accept losing, especially in the Europa League. As for Mike Dean giving extra time, sure that was his way of acknowledging that time was being wasted, but by football rules time wasting is meant to be punishable, and I didn’t see any Aston Villa players being punished for those reasons. As for your mentioning of Man Utd having more penalties, a referee admitted that even though there was a referee bias during the SAF era, that bias doesn’t exist anymore. You said that there was no example of time wasting, did you see how long it took for the goalkeeper to take a simple goal kick? Doing things like re-adjusting the position of the ball even when it was already fine? Some Villa players were even kicking the ball just to waste time, something that should be penalised.
@@uatom All im reading is excuses directed at outside influences that United cant control. You can only control what you do yourselves, whether as an individual or team.
Villa could point to different in game moments also, like Maguire using his arm to stop McGinn passing him when he was arguably the last man.
United have Ronaldo, Bruno, Pogba, Varane, Cavani plus 99 minutes to play, plus a 91st minute penalty (4th in 5 games against Villa) and our keeper still walked away with a clean sheet. Sometimes the problem is not everybody else im afraid to say.
The medals is the epitome of this squads issues. Weak mentalities and a lack of humbleness and respect towards their own fans who pay to watch, and a lack of respect to the competitions they play in.
Apart from trophies won by Van Gaal and Mourinho and the two ex Real Madrid players in Varane + Ronaldo, these players have won very little. Oh a Cavani but that was France + PSG. Luke shaw, Maguire, Fred, McTomminay, AWB should be very grateful for every 2nd place they can get. Thats how you learn to surpass that final hurdle the next time, if there is going to be a next time.
The fan base reflects the squad, who in turn reflects the manager. Im out. UTV
