  • We take the tractor, backhoe, and box blade out and work on leveling off an area. We use the Kioti ck3510 along with the titan 6 ft box blade. Music written and performed by Josh Hovis

    Sure wish my area was as rock free as yours! It would take me 5 times longer to level an area that size with having to dig out all the stone, which may not even be possible in some cases LOL!
    Great job on the music - some funky bass guitar in there!

      Thanks for the comment! Yes I was lucky, I dont think I hit one stone bigger than a few inches. Pretty unusual for my property as well but it sure did make for some easy grading though. Thanks for watching!

    My wife and I have a project that we are going to dig into (literally) within a year I hope. I will need to level some pads for parking, a 40x60 garage and a small cabin. My grade is steeper than the one in this video but not bad. Averages about a 2.5-12 pitch. I liked this method of using your level and digging trenches along the perimeter and grading to that point. Its going to be an adventure to say the least. I'll need to level the pads and then wait a year or so by code for the pad to settle where I have to add the fill I remove.. First I need to buy a Tractor with a backhoe as well as a few other attachments. I have been looking at videos to see what are the capabilities of a compact tractor in this regard. This was great to see how a compact tractor can do the job. Music is catchy also :)

      Thanks! I appreciate you watching and commenting! I have been very happy with the capabilities of this tractor. Of course you could do a job like what's shown here in this video faster with a skid steer, but a compact tractor can do the job, and the tractor has so many other uses on the property. Good luck with your project!

      @@JoshHovis Yes we know we could hire someone to come in with a skid steer or larger equipment and it would be cheaper. But where's the fun in that!! :) Thanks

      I'm doing the exact same thing and have been watching videos to decide what equipment to get. Josh's videos make it obvious a 35 hp TLB will do it all. He puts on a clinic. It will take me a while to learn how to use the tractor like that. But like you say, where's the fun in paying someone to do it? A compact TLB will get it done and I don't care if it takes longer than a dozer and excavator.

    I have a question, when You are leveling the land going backwards, do You have the implement (box blade) on float mode setting of Your 3point, or not? I tried to do it but then I dig too deep in the ground.

    • @JoshHovis
      @JoshHovis  3 роки тому +2

      I just try to keep a close eye on the blade when pushing backwards and raise or lower the implement as needed. I think it's just like anything else, the more you do it the better you get at it and the more you know the capabilities of your machine as well as get a better feel for it. Hope this answers you question. Thanks

    What is that special leveling stick you are using??

    • @JoshHovis
      @JoshHovis  3 роки тому +1

      I was using a laser transit that was set up off camera, and a measuring stick with a laser reciever that let's me know my levels. Thanks for checking it out

    Did you have the rippers down when using that box blade?

    • @JoshHovis
      @JoshHovis  2 роки тому +2

      Yes I did have the rippers down. But I also use the hydraulic top link to change how deep the rippers dig in by adjusting it while pushing and pulling with the box blade.

    How do you like the industrial tires? Any traction issues, how are they on hills with anything but dry pack? Can't decide on ag or industrial, not sure they ags would hold up/ have the weight for loader and backhoe operations and debating whether industrials would be fine on hilly property 15-25° for the upper half. Any thoughts on tires would be appreciated. Thr majority of videos out there just show r4s on flat packed ground

    • @JoshHovis
      @JoshHovis  4 роки тому

      I like the industrial tires for most of the tasks I have done with this tractor. My property has some pretty steep hills and I really haven't had much trouble with traction, but I also know my limitations. That being said, I think you have to go with the appropriate tire for what you plan on using the tractor for the majority of the time. In my case I knew I was going to do some agriculture like plowing and tilling, but most of the time the R4's fit my tasks better. I think which ever way you go there will be always pros and cons, but for me the R4 was the better choice. Good luck and thanks for watching!
