Kevin was so ‘by the book’ on SNL, I actually sort of felt sorry for him. To my teenage mind he was so straight he maybe didn’t even get the Update jokes, he was just reading the copy they handed him. I didn’t realize his standup got him the gig in the first place, or all the dues he’d paid in LA. Over the ensuing years I came to enjoy his dry wit a great deal.
