  • So What About The Dark Sinister Side Of Epping Forest?
Murder, Ghosts, Highwayman And Lots Of Ancient History
From Legendary Dick Turpin To Recent Gruesome Murders - Epping Forest has a long ancient history, this video covers Epping's interesting past and the dark tales associated with the forest.
Legendary highwayman Mr Dick Turpin found refuge here in the forest in the 18th century.
Epping Forest was one of his favourite stomping grounds where he targeted the carriages of wealthy people.
“Stand and Deliver”, he used to shout
Strangely, highwaymen seem to carry a romantic, even heroic image. if the stories are true, Turpin was actually a ruthless killer, robber and terrorist. Perhaps the most notorious, and paradoxically the most romantic, highwayman of all, Dick Turpin has certainly left his mark in the English history books and has etched his way into the legends that exist here in Epping forest.
Turpin was born in Hempstead in 1705, and at some point in his life, he was involved in the very violent Gregory Gang. When he eventually left the gang, he became a highwayman. His favourite area in the forest was that of Loughton Camp. It is believed that Turpin killed at least one man in Epping Forest.

I really enjoyed hearing about the dark tales of Epping Forest and about the legendary highwayman, Dick Turpin. I can't help thinking about Adam and the Ants, lol! The story of the poor woman found dead in her car with an arrow through her head is particularly gruesome. I would NOT like to visit after dark! Thank you, Stephen - this was awesome! 🧡🧡👻👻

Well, the Epping Forest may just become even busier now Stephen. Who wouldn't want to walk in Dick Turpins footsteps, figuratively speaking that is. I'd avoid it at night time, with spooky shadows and noises sending goosebumps up my spine. You have told this story so well you'd almost miss the horror- An arrow through her head!!! Oh my goodness. Hi, Stephen and Yhana. Did you feel something unnatural force while you documenting and filming the forest? Is "Richard Turpin" is an American version of "Billy the Kid"? Yes, I remember your vid, "Hatfield Forrest," beautifully done. Yes, definitely, not go outside at night at all. Not only because of Richard Turpin, one of my security cams detected an adult black bear standing right next to the garbage bin in my backyard. I have a French patio door with full-size glass window...just hope it will never come back again.
