Before becoming disabled, switch backside and frontside flips were some of my go to harder tricks in a game of skate. Most people never even try learning them
His switch bs 180 a 14 in chicagof the volcom video back in the early 2000s I was like 14 15 at the time and I found Darrell in that video and I loved his style from then on
@@eldensmith4161 Darrell was the shit man back when I was skating everyday real roll forever was in my DVD player alot I actually still have the video somewhere in my collection
Of all the ways to go, switch backside is the hardest. PJ's switch back 3 in really sorry was a mind blower. Wenning's switch back smith was something else too
There’s definitely sone biomechanical reason switch back 3 is exponentially harder than regular back 3. It’s has something to do with how you center your weight in switch stance. It’s the same reason switch fs big spin feel pretty natural compared to switch bs big spin.
I think it’s just what’s easier for everyone like I can switch front side flip but can’t regular front side flip. Like when you’re a kid just trying tricks some are easier for you but hard for someone else and vice versa
Switch BS is harder because it’s actually harder. Just like doing something lefty or switch is hard at first. If it was just a learned movement, then everyone would be ambidextrous at everything. I think it’s the same reason people are left or right handed because one is naturally easier and one is harder.
I can switch backside kick flip ,, but I cannot backside kick flip. I can attest that switch back 180s do require a certain level of practice and ambidexterity. First of , skating switch is hard in general: When skating switch backside,, you’re whole body has no visual on the landing point,, also ,, because you’re switch,, you’re muscles are not sure how to respond. They’re so trained to perform in your regular stance that they don’t know how to fully do the trick switch.. notice you’ll try to do a switch trick but your muscles will still move as if you did it regular stance. If you switch front side, you can see where you’re going and even get away with using a lot of hip twist, where as backside require a full Ollie and body rotation ,, tack on the uncomfortable centered weight distribution just equates to a difficult trick. It’s a combination of muscle memory, lack of visual, and off center of balance
I think our bodies find it easier to spin with the help of our shoulders and arms when it comes to fs. And spinning bs with shoulders and arms is more awkward because it’s completely different movement. I’m sure anyone can learn them but some peoples shoulders definitely allow them to do those tricks easier. For example Chris cole and Trent McClung are the ones that have that shoulder movement unlocked from the top of my head.
Chris Cole did a switch bs 360 kickflip in an old KOTR, Javier Sarmiento has some on hips from 20 years ago (properly caught), PJ and Mike Mo each did one in their ESPN game of skate against each other, Kenny Anderson in some Chocolate or Adio tour video. I'm pretty sure Walker Ryan and Tyler Surrey have one or two out there. Shane O'neill has the biggest one, though.
Shit they’re right. I can barely even muster up a switch bs 180, but can somehow whip out a switch front 3 and it came to me naturally. The cultural vs biological debate is super interesting and relevant in other sports, like is there something biological about why women have more knee injuries in soccer, or does culture affect their gait and movement in a way that increases risk for knee injury.
After skating and snowboarding regular and throwing, batting, playing ice hockey and soccer right handed/footed my whole life, I've become very aware of how much I lean on my right leg and how much stronger the right side of my body is from foot strength, up through my hips, up through my shoulder and neck, and out to my hand. As I approach 30, I'm making a point to do more of everything left handed/footed. It's not only improving my switch game, but it's helping my posture and lower back/hip tightness. Definitely biomechanical.
i love chris and im happy he is happy doing what he does but it would have been awsome to see how much of a better skater he would be if he wasn't also a youtuber
Bro, I'm surprised you weren't able to... [as SLUG of Atmosphere once said] ..."just throw your hands up in the air like a leper" after your first dip.
piruettes at ballet works the same, switch and regular. It is biomechanics or physiological matter. Just look at the posture in switch is another dimension.
I bought Andy Andersons board the first day it dropped in 2019, after Andy did a prototype board explanation on nka. I tried it out, loved it, bought 2 more(not cheap) under the assumption this board might be in production for 1 maybe 2 years. The 9 club really liking Andy, giving a big platform and letting him explain his board in great detail was amazing. But hanging Andy's board front and center on the board wall, has added to the longevity of that shape.....maybe they'll circulate forever now.
There's a long list of skaters that don't want to be on a UA-cam skate podcast and unfortunately, I think those 3 dudes are probably right at the top of that list.
Before becoming disabled, switch backside and frontside flips were some of my go to harder tricks in a game of skate. Most people never even try learning them
Switch back heels were my go to, so fun to do lol
Darrell Stanton in This is my Element has a few sw bs tricks including the sw bs 360, dude was insanely good
His switch bs 180 a 14 in chicagof the volcom video back in the early 2000s I was like 14 15 at the time and I found Darrell in that video and I loved his style from then on
Dude had one of the OGest street styles! The way he landed everything he did
That dude used to be one of my favorites then he fell off out if nowhere

Nick Merlino got one of the best switch back 3s
I wouldn't be worried about the bugs in the LA river, I'd be concerned with needles.
Of all the ways to go, switch backside is the hardest. PJ's switch back 3 in really sorry was a mind blower. Wenning's switch back smith was something else too
Silence is golden
Tyshawn did a switch back 3 over a garbage can in Philly
Brian Wenning had a perfect switch backside 360
Nick Trapasso switch back 3
Came to say that
The dopest switch back 360's were done over 27 years ago by Matt Schnurr. Shamil Randle had a good one too.
7:15 is where la river talk start
Thanks
I believe Ronnie Bertino did a switch back three in an older Plan B vid!
2 Nicks, Merlino and Trapasso got some crazy sw bs 3
Deepest skate thoughts I’ve ever heard … reminds me of college
I just learned to pop my switch back 180s and damn it is pretty difficult
Darrell Stanton and Bryan wenning kill switch backside 🔥
Honesty can’t believe nick trapasso wasn’t mentioned
Chriss is deep - biomechanical!Damn! Is this chrises new board company name? Biomechanical! Damn already cought me.
wow, Chris is highly intelligent.
switch back three is just harder to do physically
There’s definitely sone biomechanical reason switch back 3 is exponentially harder than regular back 3. It’s has something to do with how you center your weight in switch stance.
It’s the same reason switch fs big spin feel pretty natural compared to switch bs big spin.
Dude i've had this same question. I have every 180 except for switch backside 180. Has always just felt soo uncomfortable.
frontside is easier than backside, so obviously it would go front 3, backside 3 ,sw front 3 .sw back 3
Switch backside is mentally more challenging. Skating is 80% mental and 20% physical
I think it’s just what’s easier for everyone like I can switch front side flip but can’t regular front side flip. Like when you’re a kid just trying tricks some are easier for you but hard for someone else and vice versa

Something stuck out to me that the people that have true command over it tend to be naturally ambidextrous
Mike Santarosa switch bs 3 over the pyramid at Powell warehouse early 1993 I think he did them first. Not over the hip over the platform....CRAZY!

Very cool conversation here.
should be titled switch backside convo but all good hahah
Is Blake Carpenter’s sw b 360 a thing?

Look up q angle. More angle equals more injury and less stability.

i love switch bs, i think its because its so hard. but i can switch bs 360 fairly easily. my switch pop is pretty good.
I'd rather switch backside anything than normal backside, except just regular 180 ollie. Lol

His favorite word is bio mechanics , everything is bio mechanical .
It's how the knees bend if our knees bent both ways it would be easy like a Frontline.
Regular backside is easy tho
Think it has to do with unnatural and natural spin directions, like being goofy or regular, and so people are just more ambidextrous
Man, I don't relate to this at all. Switch backside tricks are soooooooo much easier for me than switch frontside.
The dope guyss have lots ques and theories

do a backside with your eyes closed biomagicly its not harder but fuck that shit its scary and fear is a big variable for a human to do somthing
Switch bs 180 is the best. Just fuckin ask Wenning!
If your body was symmetrical and looked and moved the same backwards and forwards you might have a point to make. No need to turn philosophical on it.

Nick Merlino
I think we are all confuses w this biomechanical idea!.
He would make a great girl. Chris Trann. You never thought that too? Come on now!!!

Never seen this guy, seems like a cool guy but man unfortunate to be sharing a name with another Chris chan

Who dis? Skatepark/UA-cam skateboarder? When are they gonna get HK or Cardiel on the show? Stranger would be awesome too.
