All on private property without the owners permission. Caught on trail cameras ! The deer heard is almost nonexistent now in our county.

Why come to my house looking like you belong on the front lines in Ukraine? Not a way to start a friendly conversation.
The #1 problem with this is 2 fold. 1. I cannot believe hunters and legal analyst are not screaming about this move by the DNR. Since when is policy set by public opinion? I thought any change should be founded in SCIENTIFIC STUDY, not public opinion. 2. Hunters.... your michigan dnr purposely included ANTI HUNTERS in these decision making panels. When was the last time anti hunters welcomed hunters to policy forums when anti hunting groups formulate policy moving forward? The headline here should be " Woke MI DNR, caters to feelings, and opinions setting the table for yet another disasterous round of policies" Thankyou FOX 17 for posting this on UA-cam. Seriously.
Michigan replaced the head ofthe DNR with a political appointment with zero outdoor experience. Way to go gov. Whitmer. The very first thing this new DNR guy does is shut down coyote season for 3 months. I hate living in a blue state with anri-hunting on the agenda.
I've lived in Michigan my entire life and have been small game hunting a few times but have always wanted to go deer hunting. The main problem that I've encountered is that if you go to hunt on state land it's usually overcrowded if you can't make the drive up north and downstate it's usually private land that nobody will allow you on. I kind of feel like my hunting license is useless sometimes
Of course people bait! If one person in your area is baiting, that's where the deer head and you will sit and see nothing if you're not baiting as well.
So if everybody quit hunting Michigan for couple years and stuck together (which will Never Happen) would that ease up on some restriction or would the world end?
Non-Resident hunter here who hunts in the U.P. on our family land near Curtis. I’m 51 and stopped buying a license 20 years ago after going 6 years without seeing a single deer. Pretty pathetic when you have a dead end camp and 2 miles from the nearest camp and can go 5 days without a single hoof print along that stretch! We still keep our deer camp tradition alive, but our children have given up hope.

I wonder why this state is looseing hunters maybe miss management of are deer by are DNR . They are more interested in how to bring in more money then are deer herd ......
I drive Northern Michigan every week and I never see gas station selling deer bait. How about the DNR expand the hunting season? My friends this year didn’t hunt because the state required every kill be registered through them that is government overreach. It really gets my crawl that the government thinks they own every animal, every bird, every fish and regulates how many each citizen of the state is allowed. I thought the State residence are really owners of all the state land and yet their state regulates what you could do. We supposedly own it yet. We have to pay high licensing fees to even use it. A good example is having a recreation passport just to be able to launch your boat in a lake to fish that along with fishing license it’s ridiculous.

Why don't you just give us a month and a half like bow hunting season, get rid of the stupid combo point crap and give every hunter a bag limit of 5-10 per person. Return it to the way it was in the 90's. Buck tags were 7 dollars and doe tags were 5 dollars. You didn't have to buy a "base" license because there wasn't one to begin with.

They exist already but the DNR doesn’t want to acknowledge that. A hunter shot and killed one recently outside Kalamazoo.. and they wanted to charge him last I heard.
WHY ARE HUNTING #’s DOWN!?!?! MI had given hunters EVERYTHING!!! Seasons, tags, weapons, BAIT (again) & all of which has reduced the quality of the experience. It’s created a culture where anyone with any $ ties the land up to insulate from the insane regulations. Hunters have no where to go & where they do it sucks. I left MI 25 years ago & saddens me to this day how horrible that resource is managed. The kids & future deserve far better!!!! MIMIC just SOME of the regs of IN, OH, IA, etc!!!! What do u have to lose?!?
Idk where ur living but ur not living in mi if you are you have ur own land to secretly bait baiting is illegal in mi an most parts of the up as well the only thing they added new for baiting wise is people are are veterans or disabled people can use bait on dependent hunts only during which those two type of people may use bait no one else is eligible for baiting so unless u own ur own land congrats on poaching lol
a lot of people who lived in michigan all their life then changed their residence when they retired would still hunt in michigan if for no other reason to go to deer camp with friends. then the greedy state raised the license to 180 dollars for out of state people. so many just refused to hunt anymore. so the state is also out all the money people spend on other stuff related to hunting. also the young generation doesn't spend time outdoors like my generation. so you will see less and less people hunting.
I am that exact person you mentioned! Non-resident who only goes to camp for the camaraderie with kids who would rather go to school than take off a couple of days to come with me to camp! The Michigan democrats have succeeded in destroying one of the richest hunting states in our country!
I will not tolerate a one buck rule. The only reason for that is to give crappy hunters a better chance. Two bucks with one required to be four points on one side is fine. Lower the cost of doe tags. If you want the population reduced don't make us pay you for our service. Allow us to take doe for the entire month of January so we are not using our buck time. Limit special hunts to doe. Stop forcing people to buy a rodent license in order to buy a deer tag. Last, get out of the office and look around. The high deer numbers are in populated areas where we cannot hunt. That is your problem, not ours. Understand. The number of hunters has not changed. A large part of the hunting population go elsewhere because they are sick of playing games with this state. That number will keep growing if morons remain in charge.
Should have all laws for the year established by may or so, so the hunting rule book is accurate. No law changes after the book is printed. They do this occasionally with the fishing law and do not notify the public well enough. Also, lets make bear/elk applications available in april so you dont have to renew fish in april and come back again in may for bear/elk apps.
I have bought a combo license 45 years straight never again I have no respect for mi DNR now ,🖕em my yooper friends are right just poach if u get caught every ten years you are financially way ahead
What i don't like is here in Marquette county the rules suck because being this far north we got predators that kill off a good portion of the deer heard,no chronic waste problems you down state should have no say in our hunting rules bunch of bull crap to regulate our hunts is all it is..
I totally agree I'm in the lower peninsula and the deer situations here and their should be managed separately. The DNR really is incompetent/waste of taxpayers and hunters and anglers money at best
Government is only here to poke the bear until it lunges at em and scurry away to come up with a new plan to enslave us further with out us realizing it. Ain't even about money, just power and making sure the majority don't have any.
The same people complaining about deer vehicle accidents are the same people complaining about hunting and gun ownership is a bad thing. Archery and firearms are a tool used in conservation efforts to manage certain populations of animals, in this case deer..... I've been hunting Michigan 30-plus years in Northern St Clair county public land as well as private with archery and firearm equipment and my and kids are also hunters but most of their friends are not due to their parents not allowing their children to be around firearms because they are "scary" according to the news media. For the past few decades the media has changed the communities point of view about the commonly used tools to harvest whitetail deer.... I believe hunting and politics don't mix but looking at the world we're living in now, the heritage and traditions will be lost.
We have so many Coyotes, they have a 12 month season on the deer herd and everything else they eat. Going to stop planting food plots. All I'm doing is providing a more nutritious meal for the Coyotes.
Why I don't do it anymore sadly I loved the sport but got tired of being on public land putting in a lot of time and money for only my tree stands to be stolen used with out asking as well my cameras being stolen
In my area the deer population is down drastically. I use to see herds of deer, now I am lucky to see 4 or 5 in a group. Shameful. I won't even hunt deer because it is so bad here.
Legal and lawful are two different things, btw they are ramping up to do away with any natural food source…yah know for those who could survive without super markets.
My area is over run with dear, in the thumb. Often driving around you can see em groups of 20-30 about every mile in the fields. Kids are more into call of duty or mine craft these days (and schools don’t teach Hunter SAFTEY classes anymore)
Look no further than the state of Michigan DNR who has created this problem. The roller coaster ride of the suggestion booklet they put out every year, they are unable to create a competent management plan for the deer, herd in Michigan.
Location is key. Without baiting, I can't even hunt my own property (10 acres, that butts up to another 250 acres of woods), I could hunt it, but it'd be pointless. The deer just aren't here. Back when we could bait/feed, I might see 1 or 2 in daylight every couple of weeks.
Itd be nice if they enforced some laws already on the books. Not hard to find a treestand on state land out of season. Any property, any direction from the parking lot. Just follow the orange ribbons and bright eyes. Some are even bold enough to leave their names affixed. 😂 Ya just gotta get out of the truck.
When I moved to Michigan, I have never heard of a more Criticized Fish and Game Agency than them. It seems nobody can Make up their minds about what to do; Manage deer herds. I can tell you , hunting is a dying Sport. Kids are obsessed with Video Games. Notice how you hardly ever see kids playing out in yards anymore? That's why Deer hunting is Suffering , but all of Society is Suffering from 2nd Timothy Chapter 3....... I have given you the Entire Enchalada .
The DNR is going to manage us right out of deer hunting . They never listen to whats best for deer hunting , its whats best for their pocket. There isnt a over population of deer its miss management. .........
We don’t need less population of deer we could use more which would make hunting more enjoyable. Also I guess the car insurance would push for less deer population because of the amount of deer and car collision that report.i could not get lower car insurance because they blame the deer. Less people in the woods is because more people see how small the deer population is from 25 years ago. And the cost to hunt all around
The Michigan DNR IS INCOMPETENT

Agree with this 100% someone who works hard all year to make their property good for big bucks and passes smaller bucks shouldn't see their target deer shot on Facebook by a 6 year old with a 30-06 a month before your season even starts.
UP deer herd has plummeted
I haven't seen a dear in my deer stand it two years .the dnr controls the deer by the amount of revenue they need
WOLVES
Wolves and cougars. Wait... Cougars!?!?
@@ryancline3192 we seen one ten years ago out of northland
A cougar ! Wolves for twenty
Media needs to go to the deer farm to get B-roll for their report 😂
I can buy a lot of beef for the price of DNR tags and permits, and guns, bows, and ammo, etc.
Yes and unless you’re processing it yourself that’s gonna be $50-200+
Some of us still love to get in the woods and hunt
1 person, 1 buck tag! Lower the price of Antlerless permits, get rid of the base license fee, and allow baiting again. If the DNR wants to encourage more hunters, Make Hunting Affordable Again!
Why don't they just stock wolves downstate that will get rid of your deer problems sure worked in the U.P.
Do you vote Democrat? I mean wolves just kill deer - right? Not cows, dogs, chickens, pigs or other livestock.
What do u have to lose?!?
been saying that for years. falls on deaf ears!
@@jethyperion-gi1yo better check out new regs on baiting ..its been legal in the Upper Peninsula with a 2 gal a day
Go to a 1 buck per season and lower all licenses costs (including non residents). If they want more venison
they can take a doe.
100% correct!!plus raise bag limits on antlerless deer.
a lot of people who lived in michigan all their life then changed their residence when they retired would still hunt in michigan if for no other reason to go to deer camp with friends. then the greedy state raised the license to 180 dollars for out of state people. so many just refused to hunt anymore. so the state is also out all the money people spend on other stuff related to hunting. also the young generation doesn't spend time outdoors like my generation. so you will see less and less people hunting.
That’s an asinine amount of money.
Our forefathers would not approve
I am that exact person you mentioned! Non-resident who only goes to camp for the camaraderie with kids who would rather go to school than take off a couple of days to come with me to camp! The Michigan democrats have succeeded in destroying one of the richest hunting states in our country!
what a piss poor report. zero content.
Well with the DNR crying no one hunts anymore we dont have to.stick to 1950s and 60s rules.
Well I guess we'll have to wait to find out what the changes are.
Yes, we need to wait for non-hunters to solve the hunting problems. This is your government at its finest.
There is not that many deer here in Michigan... Anything do they can make more money.. Doing way with our food source.
Just introduce wolves to the lower peninsula. They have reduced the deer heard in the upper peninsula to less than half what it was thirty years ago.
“Too many deer” ???? Now if that isn’t fake news I don’t know what is!!!
I quit hunting when they banned baiting.
Yeah they need to do something ridiculous a lot of us hunters are about to throw in the towel and say to hell with it
I have bought a combo license 45 years straight never again I have no respect for mi DNR now ,🖕em my yooper friends are right just poach if u get caught every ten years you are financially way ahead
The DNR ruined our railroad history.
Alcona County. Didn't see a deer until the third day and didn't want to shoot the only thing I saw during the hunt.
We have so many Coyotes, they have a 12 month season on the deer herd and everything else they eat. Going to stop planting food plots. All I'm doing is providing a more nutritious meal for the Coyotes.
Dnr are idiots that made hunting insanely expensive.
Why so there's no deer like in the upper peninsula
Maybe eliminate anti-hunting policies and anti 2A laws?
Insurance companies 😂
STOP GOUGING THE HUNTER
DO NOTHING RIGHT...dnr
Bring back baiting!
Too many overlapping fees, too many confusing rules and too much micromanaging BS. At this point many people are saying "why bother?"
I thought Michigan has a large wolf population that was hurting deer numbers.
Look no further than the state of Michigan DNR who has created this problem. The roller coaster ride of the suggestion booklet they put out every year, they are unable to create a competent management plan for the deer, herd in Michigan.
Too much whining. Hunting is awesome. No baiting is making hunter success fair for all hunters. Plenty of doe tags.
😂 regulate how we hunt😂 yeah good try we're going to do whatever we want buddy
I will never buy another combo license mi DNR lost all my respect
There isnt a over population of deer its miss management. .........
Nope.
Supreme Court just ruled.
Legislative branch creates laws, not branches of government.
Nope nope nope
We don’t need less population of deer we could use more which would make hunting more enjoyable. Also I guess the car insurance would push for less deer population because of the amount of deer and car collision that report.i could not get lower car insurance because they blame the deer. Less people in the woods is because more people see how small the deer population is from 25 years ago. And the cost to hunt all around
