It’s funny that they basically made it worth twice the price by rebadging it and giving it a manual. In past years this would have just been a way to spec a gt3 rs; manual trans, wing delete. Now it’s treated like a super special edition.
@@369dabblerhow are they beginning it? It’s an 8 years old car, and the secondary market made the stupid price, it was sold for half the current prices.
True. I also like the fact that he mentions “just get a gtr3” … 🤣🤣 those rides are nearly impossible to get from a dealership. They make you buy all kinds of cars beforehand for an “option” to buy one … maybe
Hi Luke, thanks for another gem of a vid. One of my clients got really lucky back around 2018 when one of his friends called him in a hurry with a problem at hand. This guy had gotten 2 allocations, one for the GT2 RS and the 911 R. He chose to pick the GT2 against the 911 R and left my client the later since he couldn’t come up with all the money… My client got really lucky in my opinion, he was smiling the all time he got to share this great story… he told he will never sell the car, I cannot blame him.
Hi Luke I watch all your content and I can confirm the 911 R sounds different to all the others. In the UK you never see one of these at car meets, 992 GT3 RS, loads of them. I’ve never driven the R but I think because of its rarity and lightweight structure it commands the premium. I wonder if the S/T will devalue them or push them higher? Thanks for making the video in 4K, nice to see this car in all its glory.
It is criminal this is the winter we get, but hey, at the very least we got to watch this due to that. I thought it exactly right before you said it too - it feels more like a collectors car at this price point and I'm on the same page as you - I couldn't justify spending that amount on a 991 when there are things like 991 GT3/GT3 RS down nearly half of R's price. Also, I had no idea there aren't even parking sensors. I actually like that fact in a car like this. Probably makes you really work if you want to daily drive it. Very pretty visuals and I feel like the fact that you started the video in the car and ended it there (besides the intro and outro) really went well with monotonous scenery of empty, wet and foggy, tiny mountain pass. Very relaxing video.
We did a shoot once with a 911r, gt3rs and speedster, all three incredible cars! But i feel like the speedster offers a more unique experience and look for a similar price. The flat six with open top and eye catching design definitely makes up for the small driving improvements the 911r has. Awesome video Luke!
I’m 45 and I’ve been a huge Porsche fan all my life basically and I’ve never even sat in a 911 or Cayman let alone driven one so I just watch this instead lol. If this car had the green stripes it would perfecto 👌
There are reasons why these and the 997.2 RS 4.0 sell for so much. They are the two most desirable water cooled 911's. Basically the performance of an RS, but more road focused, a bit more refined and manual. They both got insanely good reviews. IMO, the GT3 that offers the best value for money, would be the 991.2 GT3. Still expensive, but still a fair price.
Lovely work, Luke. That last shot feels like the opening shot of my recent Cayman 4.0 video - shot with a stereo mic at the top of a pass, with my drone facing down on the Cayman as it made its way up. Tricky to do, but so worth it. It love the effort you invest in details like this, and the fact that you notice them to begin with.

These were highly sought after due to the fact we all thought it would be the last exotic 911 with a manual gearbox. Then, thank goodness, the 991.2 GT3 was released with a return of the manual. That took a bit of thunder out of the 911R but with all due respect, it's still an amazing car and extremely rare. Great video, cheers
I think I'd take a 997 GT3 RS and save the rest for road trips, track days, modifications, etc. (or even get a 997 GT3 RS 4.0, if the prices are comparable) !😍
As always a fantastic video congrats ! Me too I’m a Porsche manual lover and it’s why I love this car 😍. But completely agreed that the price is a little bit to much 😅. Cheaper to buy a 991.2 GT3 Touring who is a very beautiful car as well :)
@@carswithluke we just discussed this among car enthusiasts. Porsche and Ferrari seem to be the only ones that understand how a modern cockpit should look like. They don't ruin the look and feel by a huge display. Maybe worth mentioning once in a while ...
The 911R. I am in my 50s, have a 991.1 GTS PDK NA and this, the 911R, white with Red Stripes is what I have on my study wall in canvas. This, for me is THE ONE!
Hey there, awesome work as usual. I really love all those cinematic shots. I was wondering what gear are you using for the pass by shots ? Really love the color grading ! I know you mentioned it at some point, but I can't find the video about it.
I’m not a truck driver.. I want to enjoy the car so therefore I’m going for the 911 R but if I can afford the ST why not get at once since it the newest in town.
While I appreciate the 911R, if I was in the market for a limited edition 991, I'd have to have a Speedster. I prefer the unique body, and the ability to 'drop the top' :D (Although I guess one should always drive top down/off in a Speedster!)
For me a 911 must be manual and the 991 is the last beautiful 911, so if I had the money it would be a contender. That said I’d be happy with the 50th anniversary in manual.
Love it. The R will always be special as I read the book about it. They way it just came to be is awesome and the single-mass flywheel and titanium exhaust from factory just makes it very cool. It's a IYKYK car. But it's true what you say, the premium and collectors car and rarity make it a bit too unjust.
Prefer the older 911s more than the 992s :/, would take the R above any 992. The R is amazing, but I would drop the stripes, go full Q (well as much as you can with a 911 GT ).
One difference (other than the fact that one is for the racetrack and the other isn't) is that the 991.1R is unlikely to ever drop much in price from here. It's a limited special edition and they built less than a thousand. The 992 GT3 RS is going to come down in price from where it's at now, and they are building thousands of them. As such the 911R is a collectable with some investment value, the 992RS is the latest and fastest track car which will simply be superseded in a couple of years by a faster one with the same name.
They feel different for sure but let’s say if I wanted a manual 911 I would be buying a fully specced 991 touring over this for 150k less which is crazy.

I would take a 911R all day long over a GT3 RS, as much as it is an engineering masterpiece I don’t like how they look. And I am more interested in driving cars on the road to driving them on a track. Taking the 911R out of the equation, I would take a standard GT3, more suited to road driving and I could save myself a fortune.

But the majority of, you can forget it , they flip them make money , . One life get it enjoy it.
It’s absolutely lovely dream car, but I never understood why are they are double the price compare to new. Other than being collectable 1 of 991 there is literally zero reason to get this, you can get 991.2 GT3 Touring for less than half the price, which imo looks better with updated front bumper, revs higher to that magical 9000 instead of 8700, same manual gearbox etc. I really though prices of 911R would crash much more when Porsche released GT3 Touring, I know they did a bit, but they are still crazy expensive compared to 991.2 GT3T which is essentially better car.
