Gladiators Eliminator - How it should have been!

- BBC brought back classic 90’s show Gladiators on 13th January 2024.
The classic Muff Murfin theme is back but the incidental music isn’t. This is what Eliminator would have been like had they done… which in my opinion they should have done!
With thanks to who provided the original music to me, which was so long ago I can’t remember who this was.

They pretty much did everything right to make it look like it’s original run on ITV, but they missed out for not having the original Eliminator soundtrack during the race. Nice work putting it together.

Or the original music for Duel and Gauntlet.
They should have put the tunes in all of them, especially for duel!!
Guess they couldn't secure the Copywrite or the composer wanted silly money because its now on the BBC there hands are tied with costing
@JME7379 probably the case. Just seems so obvious to put the tunes in but copyright stopped. Seems logical
I was thinking the same thing during the show, how great it would have been if some of the original songs for the games returned, particularly this one! Such an epic tune.
Robot Wars made the same mistake.

Yes yes yes! This was my biggest gripe with the reboot. Everything was pretty much spot on apart from missing the iconic songs for the games. This makes it so much better!

I think the BBC nailed it. It's almost like the original but you don't mind the little tweaks. A million times better than the last remake.
Except the lack of music
Aw man this is so much better, that soundtrack is ICONIC, I was optimistic that they'd use it all when I heard the original opening theme at the beginning!
These are so much better than whatever generic noise they use for the series.
I hope the producers see this and put it in for the next season along with the duel music too!! It’s literally the only thing that’s missing ! Other than that , the show is epic !!!!
I know it seems like a silly reason to switch off, but I just couldn't get into the show because of the lack of games music. Which I'm sad about because they nailed every other aspect of it.
Still can’t believe it was the BBC that brought this back. Saying that who remembers (or would rather forget) that appalling version on Sky One

Yeah the sportsmanship is a highlight, reminds me of the genuine respect the Glads and contenders used to have in the original. I'll never forget Wolf's insane support for Sam Codjoe in Series 3 - after the Eliminator Wolf came over and gave him a bear hug, and with a huge grin said "You've got courage!"
I gotta say, I was hoping Finley could at least complete the Eliminator, but I wasn't outright cheering for him until he started up going up the cargo net that quickly without the use of his legs (gave me classic Phil Norman Series 2 vibes).
The eliminator WAS THE MUSIC SO INTENSE!

I hope in series 2 they bring back the event music or do a remix of the original event music. It's the one criticism I have for the new series.
I think copyright issues are preventing them from using the original tracks (except for the intro).

Just can’t understand why they didn’t use this music. It’s perfect and it definitely lost something for not having it. Same also for all the games!

Did anyone notice they slowed the ramp down to allow the last guy to climb up 😉
They did that in the original series too sometimes. Sometimes they even downright stopped it if the 2nd contestant was really struggling to get up

Absolutely needed this music! The eliminator was totally lacking with that lame music they included!
So much better! Bug fan of the 90s and 20s version's of this show, but yeah, 90s music FTW

The music is literally made for this, and it shows. the build up tempo at the start the very deliberate "victory" at 1:20 of that guitar solo. The "exhaustion" at 1:30. It all matches up even though its the same theme every episode.
They have just replace it with generic drumb and bass trash. Whats the point of the main theme being back without this? Keep it consistent.

RJ....absolutely. Needs to be rectified by the #BBC and the episodes quickly re edited with original sound track. The event themes add the jeaopardy and emotion. Thats where this new series fell fat. Otherwise a perfect creation of what would have been had it never left our screens.
Perhaps redit others like Hang Tough with relevant theme?
The biggest weakness of the new show is not using the old event music. That and Walsh and son who are too slapstick. Should be someone sporting and one a woman for the Fash/Ukrika vibe

Absolutely. The new soundtrack is pants and takes away from the atmosphere. Shame. Really as they seem to have gotten everything else so right
As far as I can guess, MGM owns the rights to the intro theme but ITV owns the rights to the rest of the soundtrack from the LWT series. That’s why they use different tracks in the BBC series.

@@david1731048 Well, the BBC did commission the reboot for MGM and Hungry Bear, so that's that...
One thing they didn't bring back was the overhead hand bike. Well this generation does have lower testosterone than those before it, so maybe they felt it would be too difficult.

I absolutely loved the episode but this was my biggest disappointment along with lack of Hang Tough theme.

And collision with suspension bridge
Much of it is just like the original Eliminator. Only the balance beam has a zigzag and the travelator is wider!
Plus the handbikes are gone much like the 2008 Australian Gladiators Eliminator.

Infinately better. The new games are great and the new gladiators are by and large pretty good but it lacks the musical kick. They missed such a massive trick by not understanding how much nostalgic weight music can hold and the whole 2024 reboot is centered around nostalgia.

This was my first thought, I was like "wait, didn't the original have the handbikes for the men and the women would use the monkey bars?"

I’m guessing ITV held on to the rights, but the eliminator theme music is definitely missed.
It could appear to be for the entirety of the LWT series soundtrack, while for the opening theme I can guess that it's MGM's property hence why it's used here.
