Its amazing as a child 6 to 7 years old I remember watching deanna's films with my grandma, my grandma would come and say there is another film on are you coming to watch it with me. A glass of milk and some crispbreads with cheese. Unfortunately my grandma died when I was 7 years old but I never forgot loving deanna's films. Im 51 now and will always remember the films with fond memories.

My Mom grew up loving her at the theater long ago but I never understood because they didn't show these movies on TV growing up. Now I get it. Thanks for sharing that fond memory, your Grandma had great taste. Deanna was amazing! Foolish but it's fun.

@@dennisminer7952 Really? These classics never played on TV where you lived? I wonder where that was? I grew up South Cali & fortunately watched these classics since I was a wee one....from @ 7yrs young in Español & English. I'm so grateful TV was free back in those days, until about 6yrs ago. Now YT channels popping up with so many classics I've either never seen or haven't seen in decades. It truly calms my spirit. Gracias Gracias for uploading these wonderful movies. Peace be with everyone 🙏 ❤ "isa"

Wonderful movie! Two of my favorites are Bob Cummings and Deanna Durbin. They were in another adorable movie...can't remember the name...they make a great couple on screen. I grew up watching the Bob Cummings Show. Miss them both. Movies like this are a lost art.

"It Started with Eve" is, I think, the one you mean. They were also in "Three Smart Girls Grow Up" but their characters were not a romantic pairing. I agree with you about a lost art, but we have these lovely films of Hollywood's Golden Age to console us. God Bless. :^)

I was introduced to Deanna Durbin by one of my residents in the aged care I worked at. I always used to listen to Waltzing high in the clouds with my resident. Decided to finally watch the movie today. It is so good. Deanna Durbin is such an amazing singer and actress. I wish I've watched this movie way earlier.

My God this is the 3rd movie of Ms.Durbin's I have watched in 3 nights. I just decided to watch one, see what it was like. This story would make a fine musical even now on live stage. I had no idea she had just passed away in April 2013 until I bumped into that story. All this talent packed into one person - singing is superior, the acting superb, and even dancing. Most of today's "stars" could not do this well if their life depended on it. She set the standard very high. Bless her.

Deanna Durbin really did have an incredible voice and was very beautiful! +Eve Shelby my mother was also trained singer who had to give up a possible career with the Met to take care of her mother, a pianist who had to give up touring due to severe asthma way back before inhalers, when oxygen tanks were the only treatment. I can close my eyes when Deanna sings and hear my mother's voice, they were so similar, light, clear and with a musical sound sound that you don't hear in many singers, especially on those high soprano notes, still musical, controlled, not shrieky and trying to prove something. She, too, loved Deanna Durbin.

+Carolyn Mitchell What a wonderful daughter your mom was... I'm sure that would have transferred to her mothering of her own daughter. I can totally relate although it wasn't an invalid mom she gave it up for but to raise the six of us. When my older sister and I were little she was still singing but once the the other four came along she just couldn't make time in her busy schedule and then by the time we were grown her medical issues stood in the way of her taking it up again although her voice was still beautiful. She would sing at home though while she did housework and just to entertain us. Dad played violin and Mom played a bit of piano so it was always a wonderful evening of music shared. Our family has more than its fair share of musical and artistic talent because of them. One of my favourite songs has always been 'Ave Maria' which Mom did sing beautifully and I never tired of hearing her... my dream was to have a recording of her singing it but unfortunately I was never able to get that... and since she passed a few years back I never will be able to.

15 years back, my mom told me Deanna was her favorite actress growing up . So, I picked this film as the first of many to watch and it's still my favorite. However, until I read your comment I never understood Deanna's musical influence on my soprano mother. She could compose a song in the kitchen based on my sisters', our my day at school our whatever and sing it entertainingly on the spot. We lived in Detroit and I can't believe her friends who appreciated that gal never directed her to Motown. Oh well, the world's loss our gain!! Thanks for the clue, Eve!!!

She had one of the great voices of the 30s and 40s as great as any at the Metropolitan Opera at the time. In fact the Metropolitan was interested in her but she voluntarily and abruptly ended her career and went into retirement. She was not the sweet girl image that Hollywood constantly projected, She was also a brilliant actress when allowed to be. A great talent almost wasted in Hollywood. Correct she should be recognized as one of the greats whose talents were limited by Hollywood

You're right about her not being the "sweet girl image that Hollywood constantly projected." In fact, when she married Felix Jackson in June of 1945, she was already one month pregnant with their daughter, Jessica (who was born in February of 1946). And, when she married Charles David in December of 1950 (just a month and a half after her divorce from Jackson became final), she was already three months pregnant with their son, Peter (who was born in June of 1951).

For some utterly stupid reason, a legal one as usual - the "Rights" to this film were lost - the only reason this copy, a 16mm one exists, it was presented to Deanna's parents & "Somehow" a fan obtained access to it, made a copy - a pretty good one - that you are now watching! I'm sure a good 35mm copy or even a positive master, still exists in Universal's archive.

So, I looked for the movie you suggested, I can't find it. It's on IMBD but I don't know where you can actually watch it. Do you think if you went on the German internet it would be easier to find? I don't know how you could get on the German internet without going to Germany.
But, some movies that I would suggest would definitely be Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies. They're filled with awesome dance routines and songs and comedy. I love them.
I would also suggest Peter Pan from 1924. It is silent and sort of childish, but it's a great movie. After I watched it for the first time I just wanted to sit right back down and re-watch it over and over again.
Of course every Deanna Durbin movie I have seen has been amazing. Other than Spring Parade, I really enjoyed It's A Date.
Lastly, I recommend Jeannette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy movies. They were both opera singers before they became actors, so you can believe that there is a whole lot of opera singing in their movies. Maytime is my absolute all time favorite movie of theirs. (It's also the only one of theirs I have seen). Maytime is so touching and heartbreaking and sweet and just perfect in every way.
The list could go on. If you want more, I could give you more. I'm pretty sure you can find all those online for free. What movies would you recommend? I would love to know.

I have just started to like Deanna Durbin movies. I recall watching a few on tv in the late 1970s but I never liked them or any of those boring musicals as a teenager. I had no idea who she was as most actresses from that period looked the same to me. I mainly had preferred action adventure and science fiction movies back then.Deanna looks much older than a young eighteen year old in this film. She had a nice speaking voice too.

I will forever love Deanna Durbin she will forever be my favorite actress from the 1930's this is one of my favorite movies of hers. I was shocked when I found out that shat she passes away in April 2013 and I wish I had known years before that if she was still alive I would have written a fan letter to her . I discovered her in 2006 when I went to the library and checked out The Sweetheart Pack for the first time and I fell in love with her films and as years went on I watched her other films and I fell in love with her more and more

In Austria (and Europa) only the Version with the young Romy Schneider is well known to the audience. Spring Parade is here a hidden gem and I say "thank you" for uploading it. Funny to see, how Hollywood saw the "old emporer" Franz Joseph, but to be honest, the actor playing him is better then many of the german stars, impersonating the "good old kaiser". Deanna is now on my list of favourits - what a magnifisant voice, and what a cute actress.

this is the same music played by the orchestra in "It Started With Eve" (1939)
also starring Deanna Durbin and Robert Cummings.
(there used to be a book containing musical phrases -
written in standard A thru G note form -
and all normalized to the key of C Major / C minor -
and arranged in alphabetical order -
by which one could identify the name of the piece.)

They are being most uncooperative regarding the release of this movie and any other movie that they have of Deanna Durbin that in not in release. Lynne. I actually just wrote a 3 emails to Universal almost 2 weeks ago BEGGING them to get her films MUCH more noticed. And I'm a 15 and a half year old girl! The first one said that the many films of hers that are on UA-cam must be unblocked, the second one said that they must get shown on national TV, and the third one said that they must get shown on Netflix for anyone who wants to order them. I told them that she was so big a star and that she should be remembered JUST as much as Gene Kelly, Garland, and Shirley Temple and that MANY Americans should know who she is. She was a complete American icon and the first ever Teen Idol. Plus, she had that voice that was compared to Jenny Lind when she was a teenager (She was one of the greatest opera singers of all time and was loved by millions of composers and people. She was from the 19th century though not the 20th.)

I bought the SweetHeart pack, and because I cannot obtain the others legally, I've been torrenting what I can. It's Universal's fault that they're missing out on my cash. If you want the money, make it available. They could do what Warner does and do print-on-demand.

Yes. Cultural tragedy that many older people do not know how to promote their Cultural Heritage. My own mother, who disliked "Rock 'n Roll" attacked me, who tried to defend music from 1880's to 1949 or there abouts. My collection had to be abandoned. No money for storage. Sick, and weak at 83 yrs w/osteoporosis, arthritis, slipped disk, skin infection and crazy w/grief of friend s and relatives dying. Dopped up w/drugs to kill the pain. Self-pity, try so hard to defend life, liberty and honest compassionate concern for real purpose in life. Culture, traditions and ture love for melodies 🎶 music...That holds back grief 💔 ...

If they haven't deteriorated too much, some of the better black and white movies have a beautiful visual feel to them. The cinematographers were cognizant of using that sheen and gleam of the silver nitrate stock. This is just a fancy way to say I agree.

Deanna Durbin had a beautiful voice. She was a contemporary of Judy Garland, and Judy quickly rose to stardom while Deanna took on lesser roles. Nonetheless, Deanna was wonderful! 💐

    • @Rollem38
      @Rollem38 Рік тому +1

I think Judy Garland was wonderful but you got it in reverse. Deanna Durbin created an immediate superstar/worldwide sensation with the release of her first film THREE SMART GIRLS in 1936. Her first two films were nominated for Best Picture Oscars. Among other accolades, she was invited to plant her hand and footprints in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese theatre at the premiere of her third film, MAD ABOUT MUSIC, in 1938, and the following year was awarded a career achievement Academy Award after only four films for "Bringing to the Screen the Spirit and Personification of Youth and as a Juvenile Player Setting a High Standard of Ability and Achievement." She was always THE star of every one of the 21 feature films she made.
By contrast, Judy did not attain star status until 1939's THE WIZARD OF OZ, and MGM did not begin to initiate a series of "Judy Garland vehicles" in which she was the central performer until 1942's FOR ME AND MY GAL and did not begin to regularly offer her the best talents MGM had available onscreen and behind the screen until 1944's MEET ME IN ST LOUIS, nine years after she was signed by MGM.
Nevertheless, Judy was wonderful...as was Deanna
