Makes me laugh at the end of the song he's *still* asking for his CDs back. Did he ever get them back or did he have to buy new ones? Maybe he found some in a charity shop.
God this is the first time I've seen this video since 1994. I was 8 when this came out and I have these really vague memories. In my head it was a sample from a white band from the 1960's with a reggae head rapping over it. I thought the white guys were the original band. Only now as a 36 year old man, I see that it was UB40 in black and white and that it's a cover from the Eddie Grant and the Equals. A mixed race band from the 60's/70's. Cool. Thing is though, it brings with it these other flashes of memories from the time. A flash of sitting in the living room as a child watching the chart show on TV. A flash of being on holiday in Great Yarmouth. A flash of playing football or being in the car with my Dad or being at school in the summer. I mean, it's a summer song, through and through. I think it's the fact that this song has almost no other context since it doesn't get played anywhere anymore. I treasure stuff like this because just for a half-second I can be back in my childhood, before responsibility or trauma.

This tune was first released back in the 90s, and it became a total success from the very beginning. The radio stations used to play it several times during the week, and those who were young at that time, like me, were aware of listening to it frequently. As a consequence, Pato Banton achieved his goal of making something himself for a name, thanks to that tune and to the one called 'Go pato.' The guy went on tour around the world, and I had the chance of seeing him live in my hometown, along with The Wailers, Rita Marley and Big Mountain.
