    Mitch is a counter-tenor, Scott is a baritone who can slip into 2nd tenor or bass beside his natural register! His tessitura is incredibly huge!

  • @Sweeney541
    @Sweeney541 4 роки тому +26

    Scott is actually a baritone, but he has a huge range. He covers the bass when the bass singer has the lead, but can also sing high notes and harmonize up there with Mitch and Kirstin.
    And yes - there are mics for the three singers too... just out of shot at the side and/or above.
    Recommendations:
    The classics: Hallelujah, Daft Punk, Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody
    Originals: Sing, Run to You, Love Again, Can't Sleep Love
    The newest: Home (medley), When the Party's Over, Dreams (all recorded and filmed during quarantine in ther separate homes)
    Personal favourites: Imagine, Havanna, Papaoutai

      FleetstreetVicomte they used to record them live, but not anymore. There are several times that matts lip syncing doesn’t fit the lyrics or bass line. And as accomplished recording artists they would not want to put out live content when its not necessary, they recorded it for the best possible sound quality. And also their is a video of them recording it, on the ptx experience

      @@lexymish990 I'm sure she didn't mean that it was the Engineer who made them sound great. She did acknowledge they were great singers without a doubt. She was correct about how the Engineer will take out certain frequencies and enhance other frequencies. It's done that way on 98 percent of music videos and concerts and as amazing as Pentatonix is is still gets done on thier videos only because they want to put out the best product possible. On the evolutions it's very minimal but still enhanced in post production. It can't help horrible singers at all. We know how they sound no matter what.

      @@SingingTechniquesINT you put me on spot. There is so many, and I usually like the ones that are not popular. So I think I give songs by categories, so you could choose. 1) the songs that are usually suggested, and most popular, but are not my favourites: Hallelujah, Sound of Silence, Bohemian Rhapsody and from their originals Sing, Can't Sleep love, Run to you.
      2) my favourites: covers: Kiiara Gold (it is a live recording), Praying, Just for now; originals: Water (there is a Popspring live), Take me home, Ref.. i'll stop now. But anything they have done is good for reactions. Bohemian Rhapsody may get copyrighted though.
      3)Also songs they got Grammys for are Tchaikovsky Dance of a Sugar plum Fairy, Daft Punk, and Jolene

    I think they have mics to both the left and right and above when they’re doing these evolution videos. You don’t see them since they’re off screen. That would give the engineer a bit more control since he’s going to have feeds that are closer to each Mitch, Scott and Kirstie. I enjoyed your reaction especially the information about the balancing and mixing.
    BTW - it Kirsten/Kirstie (rhymes with Thurston/Thirsty)

    Interesting that you point out their blending and their individuality. Kirstin, Scott and Mitch have been practicing that blend since high school. While they have very distinct voices they mix extremely well. When Mitch tries he can nail Kirstin's phrasing and tambre. Listen to their cover of Frozen's Let it Go and see if you can hear when Mitch and Kirsten trade lead.

The only thing I noticed was off was sying Scott is a tenor, but that makes sense to guess because he was singing in tenor range in this video, haha. Hard to guess he's a baritone who can go all the way down to bass notes from this video! I love how you explained and appriciated what make them so great and unique.

    Their studio work is usually done in recording booths so their voices can be fully isolated for EQ and mixing. This "Evolution of" and other "couch videos" (an inside joke since so many of their early videos were shot with them grouped around a couch) is a "1er", shot in a single uncut take. Yes, they use five microphones but the spillover between the mics means you can only do so much in post-production. It's as close the hearing their real voices as you can get without being in the same room with them.

  • @anitalovett34
    @anitalovett34 4 роки тому

    Apparently you have never been to their live concerts as well as them without microphones or you wouldn't say all that too much.

    • @hernameispekka_Rebecca
      @hernameispekka_Rebecca 2 роки тому

      She said nothing wrong in this. Microphones in concerts also have equaliziers and pop filters and other stuff to clean it up and enhance. You can see often on stage that the trio have different microphones than the rythm section or stuff like that. Because different mics work better to enhance different sounds. Yes, they can sing extrememly well off mic (I love those performances) so they don't need any tweaking. Doesn't mean that there is no cleanup done on the audio quality though, even if the voices are untouched.
