The company is actually going to release a series of sourcebooks about the different quadrants (Beta, Alpha, Delta, Gamma) which should have more species and character options, as well as a series of "division" books (Command, Operations, Science) with accompanying character options and new starships. They're just starting with the basic Starfleet campaign, because that's the baseline Star Trek story model.
Good review as usual Kurt. The iconic characters from TOS and TNG are published with the gm screen package. Pretty useful for VIP guest stars. This goes up on my main shelf with my C7 Dr Who books.
Great Review as always. The other modiphius games also have great artwork. Especially the ones only published by them and developed by free league publishing. But hey, I've always been a sucker for great artwork.
MODIPHIUS really should publish books so that you can play from the Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian etc perspectives. The UFP can get rather boring for my tastes.
It is a great system and the book is very well done. Totally agree with you Kurt. I was involved in the play testing with my wife and 13 year old son plus some friends. The system played very well. Everybody loved the adventure, but I was told I needed to bone up on my Star Trek Universe knowledge. This came from my wife and son who noticed some faux pas on my part in the setting department. They made me watch Enterprise, TNG and now Deep Space Nine. They are pretty good shows and now am ready to GM the heck out of Star Trek Adventures.
Cool video. While I don't totally agree with your opinion of TNG entirely, I like how you still took a neutral stance and left a legitimate review. :) +1
You must have had a prototype of the game as there are a couple of changes. When you roll your 2d20's, of course, roll equal to or below your target number (Attribute + Discipline) to succeed; rolling a 1 is two successes. If you have an applicable focus then rolling your Attribute or lower gains you two successes. These successes are compared to the difficulty number; i.e: difficulty 1 needs one success, etc., and extra successes are accumulated as Momentum that can be spent to get extra dice to roll for future rolls.
Hell yeah to the name dropping of Farscape. Beautiful series. Have you ever reviewed the lackluster RPG? I couldn’t find the video but don’t know if I may have overlooked it.
I was able to be part of the beta testing for t his game, but was unable to find a group to play it and so unable to give any input. There was a lot of mostly minor changes made during this time which I saw, as I was still given updates even tho I wasn't participating actively. I would have sent it to you but I ended up deleting it. I tend to delete things that I am not actively working on or using, and have at times regreted it.
Loathe the narrative stuff (not games, they are actors improv lessons).... but this a good balance of narrative to bring in the feel of the Star Trek setting. A lot of times trying to jam a setting into a mechanic makes the game suck. There is a nice balance struck here. I don't think it would suit a Klingon or Mirror Universe campaign (because of thr mechanics).... but oh oh oh it's a nice sweet spot for Star Fleet. The DS9 episode where Sisko and Garak make that fake data crystal for the Romulan.... I can so see their threat system system being used to escalate situation. Granted this isn't a system for everyone but would so suit a good DS9, TNG, Voyager setting.... not so sure about TOS or Enterprise but haven't thought about running either of those 2 eras.
Based on your comment about why you didn't like Trek, you would probably love DS9. I'm a huge Trek fan but DS9 is my favorite because rather than dealing with super science it dealt more with interpersonal conflicts, political conflicts, actual wars, and espionage. The characters are not all wonderfully perfect people and they absolutely grew over the series.

Indeed. Symbaroum is simply BEAUTIFUL and has a ton of atmosphere.
Even thou We probably wouldn’t see eye to eye on are thoughts of trek, I believe your review of the book is top notch and correct.
"You can play your own Number of Number Borg" that nearly made me sput out my tea laughing lol
I want to be .14159... of Pi.
Love the review!
I know 2020 has been nuts but your one of the beat reviewers and I’d love some more episodes!!!!
You summarized my feelings with regards to the Roddenberry’s view of the future. And did a wonderful review of the game. Thank You

There’s a Klingon core book now

Wow. Now I know what to watch while studying for my CHEM 325 final. 👍
This is an awesome game system I've run some 1 shots im getting the first mission pack tomorrow

Thanks for sticking to foci. I like Star Trek but totally agree with the things you don't like about it.
I think it'd be fun to play renegades from the Federation, like the Maquis, arms traders, or even Khan and his band.

That looks like a fun game and a nice book. It's a shame the book is so expensive, but it still looks fun.
Balanced review. Thanks

Looks like a reworked Mutant Chronicles roleplaying gs to fit Star Trek IP.
David Mendez its 2d20 based but there ends all comparison
Mo-DI-phius
LoL
Good, i'm not crazy! I think he's trolling us at this point.
Then next review is going to be in 2019
We are trying but certain times of the year get busy.
Any chance you could do Tales from the Loop?
Thank God it excludes the JJverse.
The Discovery people have decided the original series is not canon (?) so ...
Nice review. Thanks!
When Starfinder?
I'm kind of disappointed in the review somewhat. The core is easy yet running the game is much more involved and the review mentions nothing about it.
Could you elaborate?
I am perfectly fine with this excluding that J.J. Abrams trash.
