Thank you Chris, I forgot about the trim function too. Regarding the question that caused all this: Can you use the channel fader (with the trim function) to trim volume automation or do you have to use the mouse as you showed us?
Hi Chris, I have a project with around 60 tracks with lots of automation going on. After doing everything, I realised that I need to bring down the overall volume of the project.Under normal circumstances , if there's no automation, then I would route all the channels to a VCA fader and adjust the volume , but is the same applicable if the tracks have automations and would the relation between the volume and automation of tracks remain the same after adjusting the levels with a VCA fader...Thanks in advance for your valuable info.
Hi Chris! Very great explanation of everything in Cubase! Do you know how to mute/unmute track(s)/Busses, sends/returns using automation in Cubase? (Like on digital mixer) If there is this function. Thanks!
Thank you for this video, but I don't think this answers the question the way it was written. The question was whether one can use the FADERS to adjust overall mix levels after recording some volume automation, while still following that volume automation. This is a feature available in Reaper that seems absent in Cubase. In Reaper, you can record the volume automation (given you select the correct automation write options, and then subsequently the faders DO NOT follow that automation but instead let you adjust overall mix levels AFTER the automation you recorded. I have not found how to do that with faders in Cubase. It seems you can lower that Trim level and even record some Trim automation with the faders, but once you finish, it just adds the two curves together into a single volume automation curve. This is not exactly what was asked.
Hi Chris I have 2 questions :) How to export list of VST effects and instruments? (solved) in plugin manager Cubase have export list :) How to inverse the direction of Shift + Mouse Wheel? Thanks
I think that the only way to reduce overall volume of a track with volume automation, AND while maintaining the proportional volume levels of the automation curve, is to use the VCA Fader option. Example: Say I have volume automation on a track at 100% for part of the track and at a certain place it drops to 50%. If I use the Trim, that looks like it just lowers all volume by the trim amount, which means that once you lower the trim half way, what was at 50% automated is now at zero, and inaudible. But with a VCA fader the level is effectively lowered, but keeps the relationships between the volume automation levels. So using the VCA and going down 50%, what is automated at 100% is now at 50% overall, and what is automated at 50% is now at 25% overall level, and still audible.
Actually, Trim will act the same way as if you use a VCA Fader. Compare Trim and VCA use one channel and look at the dB values between your automation points... If like me, you will get the same results on both, Trim and VCA
Chris, thank for putting this together. You do a great job and I owe you somewhere between 1 and 1,000 beers for all of your information. Let me know when you would like to collect. Thanks again.
Thx Chris for showing how to activate Trim but you don't explain what it is actually doing? How is it lowering volume? Is it a maximum volume level or an offset that reduces all volume automation levels by the same amount?
Cool! But is this option very different from the technique of selecting all the volume automation and then bringing everything (down or up) by grabbing the central handle that appears (after selecting) and drag it down (or up)? That way the relative automation stays intact but the overal general level changes. Exactly the way it works in the midi editor. Right?
I am a Cubase user since 5.1. I still cannot edit automation points by typing the value. That drives me insane! Can you do a video about this? Thank you!
Could you not just attach a VCA fader to that channel and adjust thr VCA fader Chris? Does that do the same thing? That's what I've been doing to adjust overallvolume after the track is automated.
Hi Chris, another quick question my brother; does one have to be running Windows 10 in order to upgrade to Cubase Pro 10.5? Cubase specifications say you do but I wondered if anyone had upgraded and it had worked without problems. Thanks again dude.
Hlo sir- When open My cubase 5 & cubase 9 (Ai )file in cubase 10.5 pro why all my sends faders automatically change to post faders(the fader colour in orange)is it a bug of 10.5 ? Iam confusing... Thnx in advance & love from 🇮🇳 india
Hi Chris. Just one quick question. Is there any way to change the whole already existing track setting from stereo to mono? Let me explain what I mean. I have stereo audio file on stereo track, then I go to Pool and convert that stereo audio file to mono (and replace it automatically), so now have mono audio file on stereo track. Is there any way to change that track to mono? I always create new mono track and drag the new mono audio file manually but there should be quicker way. Thanks a lot
To convert a stereo event to mono, open up your audio pool, find the event. Right click on its name and hit „convert“. Keep all settings but change stereo to mono. Then hit convert
Very cool feature! But is there a way to to it in Cubase 8? (I don´t want to pay for an update). For my band´s EP I recently got around it by making sure all my audio tracks, fx tracks and Buss tracks were around -18db, and increase volume (a lot!) on the master channel. If you are curious, you can check the results here: theghostroad.bandcamp.com/
Thx for sharing, most times I use VCA Faders. Or I use a Trimm plugin last in chain in the group fader
Same here, that's what I shared of my last video ua-cam.com/video/ecjSrhnkvUY/v-deo.html
@@mixdownonline Thx a lot Chris

Yes you can use the Fader to add Trim Automation
...but it's buggy 😊@@mixdownonline

Thanks for the video Chris! Is the trim level change on bit of volume automation pre or post fader?
Post...It will add an additional Volume Control level to your existing Volume automation.
@@mixdownonline Cool! Thanks for the reply! 🙂
Wow I never knew about this feature. I think it will really speed up revisions. Thanks Chris

Wow, I frequently adjust automation and trim is very helpful. I never used it before either. I will now for sure. Thanks Chris! Awesome 👍🏻

Yes
Thanks alot! It will be one of my favorite feature now! Very useful for me! :)
Awesome!! Please a video for aliane phases whit two mic to record guitars acoustics. Sorry my english is bad hahaha

How to inverse the direction of Shift + Mouse Wheel?

Don't think inversing the direction of Shift + Mouse Wheel cab be done
@@mixdownonline It would be good to be able to change. Now it's kind of upside down for me :)
Great tutorial

That's what I assume as well Clay. (Another PLAPER who uses Cubase!)

You're welcome!
Thx Chris for showing how to activate Trim but you don't explain what it is actually doing? How is it lowering volume? Is it a maximum volume level or an offset that reduces all volume automation levels by the same amount?
It will bring up or down the volume level POST automation. Acting as an additional volume control
Is this only available on volume automation? I tried to do this for automation on the maximizer but the little bar doesn't pop up.
Cool! But is this option very different from the technique of selecting all the volume automation and then bringing everything (down or up) by grabbing the central handle that appears (after selecting) and drag it down (or up)? Unfortunately, no. You need to create a Mono channel in this case

how do i put all my tracks automatically trimmed to -18db without gain input knob, because i waste a lot of time per track at once

hi Chris just a quick one how to bounce back stereo track in a project to mono
To convert a stereo event to mono, open up your audio pool, find the event. Right click on its name and hit „convert“. Keep all settings but change stereo to mono. Then hit convert
I received vocals in stereo and I wanted the quickest way to convert them into mono
