What made her pop was the Nicki hate train. Ppl just wanted to see Nicki get knocked off her throne so bad that they accepted Cardi, an IG famous influencer who couldn’t rap and never wanted to rap. It was never her passion. She only did it to monetize her following and for money as she herself said it many times. So they lowered the bar for Cardi and accepted her having a ghost writer for her to be able to compete with Nicki. Atlantic made sure she had all the payola, radio deals and bought awards etc. Only for the mission to fail because Nicki is still #1 and currently on a sold out world tour. Now we’re left with these trash IG thot models turned female rappers because that’s the door Cardi opened and that the public allowed to be opened. Now with the hate train gone, she is forced to stand alone and show and prove. And she can’t because she never actually had the talent to sustain a career.

That's what Joe meant, these labels are putting a lot of money and effort behind these females to get them to the next label and only a few are really crossing over big time. Look at Saweetie's career as a perfect example. We've had to see her so much the last 5-6 years you can't argue it's been serious label push but it's not translating sales wise.

Instead of assuming when you know nothing about the music industry why no just be quite and let the people who actually know how the industry is ran talk about it. For 1, writers are paid off publishing and that is a label thing and the writer is on Atlantic and has a set percentage in publishing.

Part of the reason Cardi got popular on social media is because there was more than meets the eye. She comes off as that funny hood chick but she was also talking about how corrupt the prison system is, learning how to budget, international crimes and the US involvement, starting your own business, owning your authentic self, voting, kinda being a history buff and yes she also talks a helluva a lot about pu$$y. There are different types of intelligence people. She has it, I just honestly think her husband and the industry sucked a lot of the confidence she had in her self. She has songs before she dropped invasion of privacy and they're actually really good. And she wrote all of it.

STOP COMPARING CARDI TO KENDRICK AND COLE with regards to time in between albums. Prior to Mr. Morale, neither artist went more than 3 years without releasing a project. ESPECIALLY early in their careers. The comparison is being based against a narrative and not based on facts. Cardi can do whatever she wants [i agree with the cold feet], I just don't like this narrative always percolating that some great artists weren't consistent/present and earned the ability to not have to put out projects based on earlier production but still maintain the fanbase.

Here is the problem with Cardi, its not her, its Atlantic records trying to recreate what her first album was in how it was explosive . They failed when bongos didnt do that, so, it sent them back to the drawing board because they really thought bongos was a smash and people are tired of Cardi shaking her ass.
The WAP thing is done and she needs to get back to who she is with a splash of shaking her ass. Now, to top that off, Taylor Swift seems like she lives on the chart and that is possibly worrisome to them.
What they should have done was let Cardi release music , hip hop music, not shake your ass music and have her go at Niki since that is an angle to create some excitement and generate that buzz. If they used that strategy with a uptempo track telling the industry that she is here to take back the thrown since she had been gone for a minute , then she would pop but they are technically waiting for mid Spring rolling into Summer to try releasing anything with the hope that it will be a summer blockbuster. Its no longer about creating hip hop music but about domination and that is where they are trying to time it right so when she releases, she is there by herself

Yes I agree cardi needs to just put out the music she already been working on as singles, we been waiting. She probably has some anxiety around meeting a certain standard/expectation which is understandable but many of cardi supporters see her as an entertainer not just a rapper.
For example: cardi drops 8 snippet a month ,the fans vote which ones they want released first out of 2
She does a music video for the most voted with a good concept within her budget and once it hits a certain amount of views, by the end of week 2 she releases one of the other songs on the snippet without a video.
This would keep up the consistency, let her get over the anxiety of releasing what she’s already worked on , and allow space to work on a future album the songs that preform the best can be on her album then all she gotta worry about is positioning the track list and adding features.
I would love to see GBV1 cardi although she’s evolved since then she needs another bodak yellow, get up 10, red barz, money , on fleek, wash poppin, foreva, back it up, buss down thottian, she bad & bartier cardi.
