I totally identify with your opening comments "I just want to read, but it don't seem to be happening." Yea life sometimes wont let us read. Hope July is better.
I'm definitely a reader that enjoys books about the "quiet parts". We don't get as many Black queer stories like that. I can understand your critiques though. lol. You read so many of my favorite books during June (Memorial & Crimes of Passion)!
Thanks for the recommendations- I’m gonna check out your favorites! Also, love that you used hoodwinked and razmatazz (I don’t even know how one would spell this) your descriptions are wonderful ❤
I had such a hard time with Memorial too 😩 I really wanted to like it, but I also couldn't get past the first couple chapters. Ended up DNFing very fast. I read SA Cosby's Ravorblade Tears last year and I loved it so much, so I'm interested in reading this other one!
Hi, new subbie. Love your style. I did not manage one physical book in June. It was literally audio books and comic books - couldn't cope with anything else 😍
Curious if you’ve heard of/read Almond by Sohn Won-Pyung. I got a few minutes into my libraries audio and stopped cause I had to physically own the book. It’s just so beautiful but interesting. Always enjoy your reviews!! Love how you read so many different kinds of books.
I had issues with differentiating the distinct voices of Benson and Mike in Memorial. To me, it didn't make sense that Mike would have the same speaking patterns as Benson and it felt like the author didn't consider not making his Japanese American character sounded like a Black American. I do think their storylines and plots were distinct and different, but Mike sounded too much like Benson and it was hard to get through his chapters.
I think June was chaotic for everyone. 😆

Hilarious and informative as usual!!!! ❤❤❤❤

I would love for this book to be adapted into a kdrama! It is just such a compelling story and the pages turn themselves!
I’ve seen it on some of the book apps, but don’t know much about it. Now I wanna read it lol.

I had the same issue. It was too flat.
I read Memorial this month as well and didn't love it. I'm in the same place with lit fic lately. Nothing is really connecting.
Desmond have you read Raven Leilani's Luster?
I haven’t. Based on some of the reviews I’ve read/seen… idk about that one.
I love the way you summarize a book. 😂😂❤
'pick the pen back up' LOL that's the way I feel about all novelas! And I couldn't agree with you more about short stories. Not a fan.
June wasn’t a good month for me either in terms of quantity
