  • How to make your own surf weights - save money pouring your own. Surf fishing weights are an expensive tool if you really think think about what they are. Its a hunk of lead that you cast into the ocean. Instead of paying retail price for surf weights why not invest an affordable amount of money in the tools to make your own surf fishing weights.

    Great video. Definitely a money saver. I’ve been making my own sinkers and jigs for many years.

    I always set my mold on top of the kettle to pre heat while the kettle is heating up and keep it warm

    Plumbing shops may be a source for lead from old drain lines that have been removed. If you happen to have a metal detector you can find lead sinkers along the banks of any lake.

    Use a toaster oven to keep the mold very warm. °200 - °250ish

    Great video with a lot of good information! Quick question though; where do you get the wire from, and is there a particular size you prefer?

      Thanks Jason! Lowe’s or Home Depot just 14 to 16 gauge galvanized steel.

    Hey bud...kinda off topic, but I've been studying your videos an I've noticed a tool you use to take the bait of your Sabiki rigs. What is that tool..an where can I find it?

      I’ve always heard them referred to as bait hook remover or a Sabiki tool. Most tackles shops along the coast carry them. Just ask for a sabiki tool and they should know what your talking about. Thanks for watching!

      Technically they are claw weights. Sputniks have the arms that swing loose.

      I use galvanized steel wire, gauge depends on size of sinker. Were you wanting the gauge for the 8 oz weight?.

    • @TheLawlessTide
      @TheLawlessTide  4 роки тому +1

      14 to 16 gauge on the 8 ounce. Hope that helps.

    Wrong molds. That kind of sinkers are a mess, the less practical on earth.
    Get a different mold .
    You are right in all the rest.
    Congrats.

      Thanks but I've had zero problems with that mold and those are the only weights I use with my cast out shark rigs. Never had a problem.
