@moonbuilt garage When applying gorilla tape to digitizer, did you just outline the black trim around the border? If so, what did you use to trim the excess tape with? Exacto knife? Scissors? I find it difficult to cut the tape straight. Let me know.
I have a different issue. My screen went totally black. I tried all the hacks and nothing worked. The radio works, I can make calls while driving, etc. Went to the dealership today. After $175 to look at my RAM pickup, they said "a component was bad in the radio" and I needed the whole thing replaced. Moreover, it'd be $1,000 (payable all upfront today) and a 1 month wait before it'd be fixed. I see a lot of display replacement videos out there. The displays run about $350. Would a new display be an option or is there a possibility there's something with the actual "radio" system warranting a full system?
@@TeresaRodriguez-gt4ut I'm going to have to replace the display and find out. The thing is gel-free displays run $350-$400 while the cheap displays ($150-$200) refuse to say of they are gel free. I'll just have to save up some money and buy a known gel-free one and see how it does.
I have two or three dark spots on mine that’s noticeable when using the navigation Apple CarPlay. I posted on your previous video as well. Any idea where I can get replacement clips for the back of the unit? I accidentally popped the pink one and now the pink one no longer clicks in place on the back of the unit. Thankfully, tension in the wiring harness holds it in place.
No idea....I know there are places on-line that sell automotive electrical connectors you might be able to try....or try the stealership, but they'll probably charge ya a buttload
I also did the fix myself, ghost touching went away, but after hitting cold weather it started to reappear. So I'm thinking of buying a new touch digitiser. It's only around $30 and cheap in comparison to a a whole screen sandwich which is around $400. I would have loved if Dodge installed some button to turn off the whole system in scenarios like this.
@@stephenburn8472 I saw there is a revised version which apparently fixes it. It includes touch + lcd. Catch it’s $300 or something. Mine started doing it again, will change to spare one and let tou know :)
I have a jeep Compass in the UK, mine started within two years of ownership but Jeep didn’t care and would not help apart from selling me a new complete system!, i am about to try and clean the screen but wondered what sort of temperatures you stated in the cold brought it back again, hopefully it is because you have extreme cold as compared to British wet cold in southern Britain.
Liked, subscribed. Im going to do this this weekend. Dodge wants 1500$ to replace the unit. And all i need is double sided gorllia tape lmao. My only questions from the actual repair vid is do i only put the tape around the digitizer border? Not on the whole back of the digitizer but the black border correct? Edit. Found it in the comments lol
@MoonBuiltGarage thanks for all this and uploading it my dude. Can't believe dodge isn't recalling this massive defect. Gonna be a pain in the ass but better than paying 1500$
yes supposedly there was an "updated" version- cable says 2017 or 2021 (sorry i forgot) ,but it seems like ALL the 8.4s are included unfortunately.. so their aware of it, but not honoring it
been digging through all the comments cant find where you answered the question about the tape. did you only apply it to the outer edge? or did you cover the whole digitizer with it? TIA
My fault...I just realized this comment was on the follow-up video, not the original.....I'll give you a pass this time...the tape just goes around the edges
I tried to prepare mine the same way you did. It doesnt have any ghost touch anymore. In fact, it doesnt take any touch at all. Everything works fine it just you cant control it. Do you have any suggestion?
@@ehamlin36 mine’s working fine right now but cant tell you how because i dont know how either. I let it run for 5’ turn it off, later check again and it worked

Asked and answered in the comments...trimmed with x-acto..doesn't need to be perfectly straight
