This is darts for freaks, professionell knife throwing looks different. Just look for no-spin knife throwing if you are interested in real professionell knife throwing.
If you have someone throw the knife so that the Handle hits, or reduce the spin, it won't be as hard. Maybe dull the knife or use a Wooden Knife for practice.
It's great that there is a world knife throwing league but I wish they would expand the styles of knife throwing and knives and allow throws like military half spin and no spin throwing.
fast pitch softball pitchers do not toss the ball, they throw it. these guys are tossing like you would a piece of paper into a office trash can... @@TheDGAF06
My dad made me some throwing knives when I was a kid (probably to get me to stop throwing his hunting knife), it was great fun. You can make a good set from flat bar stock with not much more than a hacksaw and a file. A bench grinder helps, though. No need to buy fancy daggers.
I think you guys should do a lot more combat simulation knife throwing. Get their heart rate going, have them turn around at the sound of a beep then be timed and scored for quickest throw and most accurate. Put them on a course, like professional shooters. That's what i wanna see! Show me the best knife throwing warrior, not the best knife throwing nerd.
I would join that competition. This looks boring. I know they are accurate, but it’s too clinical. The masks on everybody isn’t helping here either haha.
now i dont know what i should think about those blind throwers in a circus tho..their accuracy must be actually out of this world compared to a world champion?!
Did Philabaum make a huge mistake by not going for the 8 on the last throw in the first game? Unless I’m not understanding correctly, he should have done the math and quickly realized he needed the 8-pointer.
Blah. Single rotation darts, I call it. A much more interesting competition would be random distances and moving targets. The competitors would have to decide on rotation and direction with every throw. THAT is when you'd see the really skilled throwers.
The hilt keeps the Knife stable so it sticks into the Vertical Grain target better. It's not necessary but it helps especially for beginners. I think End Grain/Log Rounds (Traditionally most KT comps used them) aren't used here because the Knives won't stick in as good if they under or over rotate. For No-Spin or any throw that reduces the spin, End Grain is ideal because the knife barrel rolls making it harder to stick into a Vertical Grain target. My guess is this was only for Axes so some of these guys are probably Axe throwers (Knives are harder and cost more) who decided to try the Knife throwing league.
Awesome new competition, love seeing the amazing knife skills❤ I want to get into it because it looks like so much fun! Definitely a new sub here! The good sportsmanship of the competitors and the spectators is refreshing
Requiring a certain number of rotations is antithetical to the goal of knife throwing. You can't give it full force from 10 ft. if you're also required to have a full rotation. Notice how gently they're throwing? Number of rotations shouldn't be a requirement.
lol You imagine getting into a serious argument with your wife about the sharpness of your blade and how you need alone time to practice being one with it.
Did you watch the whole tournament or are you just dumb enough to think that because two Americans made the final that only Americans participated? I'm going with the latter considering you misspell American half the time.
But why are they throwing them like that? Theres so many different ways to throw a knife, and the way they are throwing them isn't even close to ideal.
First time hearing of this sport but seems like a awkard idea to have them do it side by side as it looked like mike philabaum waited for the other throw everytime so if the other guy dropped his knife then he knows to go for a safer choice or adjust to what the other guy did, dont know if i missed something but seems odd
I’m actually a professional knife thrower, but I don’t throw anything like these guys do. I wonder if No-spin or half spin techniques are allowed? That’s how I throw and I don’t have to worry about how far from the target I am.
Knife tossing, more accurately. Kinda like a competitive axe throwing event that subsequently ordered knives instead of axes!! No variations of personal style with all the targets in a obvious orientation just seems bizarre in actual conception of such an event & further more 'professional' competition. Typically 'Americanised' as mentioned in other comments!!!
Because the distances are set optimally for Full Spin ➡️⬇️⬅️⬆️➡️ and Double Spin Handle throws. The rules probably allow Blade Throws, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice because the first line is to far for a Quarter Spin Throw so you'd have to do a 1½ spin throw which forces you to either add extra spin or move back to make up for the extra spins.. Even if they added a Quarter Spin throw line, it's basically like throwing Point Blank. I do think they should add another line for 1 ½ spin Throws just to add variety.
Looks like a sport in its Infancy. A Running and Throwing Obstacle Course not to dissimilar to Paintballing would be more enternaining, while you are being shot by a paintball,( ie A Penalty Points deduction) to your overall score on targets Hit 🙂👍

Knife and ax throwing is difficult but knife and ax catching is really hard.
That’s a sport more people would watch. Lol.
I was in the olympics in two sports. I was a javelin catcher and archery goalie.
Catching them with your teeth is a true talent......

Catching one is easy. Catching the second one is much harder
oh it's the type of day when we go from competitive air hockey to this.
This is one of a few sports that is more fun to participate in, than to sit and watch.
It's great that there is a world knife throwing league but I wish they would expand the styles of knife throwing and knives and allow throws like military half spin and no spin throwing.
I think The European championships allow it, but I don't know exactly who manages it
Just learn each different spin type. For me, it's automatic. My brain knows how to add each rotation or no Rotation.

So all those years i spent throwing knives for fun and getting yelled at were for nothing? I could have been training for an actual league? Hahaha
I must've missed this in Obscure Sports Quarterly
Some of the world championships they invent in America are hilarious.
Yep, and I'm here for it
Knife throwing competitions have been around for a while. Russia and America have been like the major places people go to compete.
The USA… where you can be a professional in anything. 🤷♂️😂
I'd say this sport isn't any stranger than for example darts or javelin throwing. There are much weirder sports out there.

This will definitely be one of those America only World Championships 😂
USA does not dominate any international sports. therefore they have to create their own world championships

So strange to me that regulation knives have a hilt
The hilt keeps the Knife stable so it sticks into the Vertical Grain target better. It's not necessary but it helps especially for beginners.
