  • Using Google Earth Pro, we follow the alignment of the former Cromford and High PeakRailway from Parsley Hay, near Buxton, to Highpeak Junction, just south of Cromford. The trackbed is now given over to the High Peak trail, a popular walking and cycling route. The first 12 miles of the track are elevated, commanding extensive views to the south. At Middleton Top, the preserved winding engine house can be seen in 3D. Beyond that point the Derwent valley comes into view on the left, but after Steeplehouse, the trackbed is mostly obscured among trees, as we descend the Sheep Pasture incline and then follow the bank of the River Derwent to join the Midland line at Highpeak Junction.
