- StarGate SG-1 Disclosure Part 5
Dics 4 Season 6 Episode 17
General Hammond and the Pentagon are forced to reveal the existence of the Stargate to other world governments. Playing off fears the US military has too much control, Senator Kinsey suggests that Hammond be relieved of command and the civilian-run NID oversee the Stargate program.
Love the way Thor insists Kinsey follow protocol and call him by his rank of Supreme Commander while Hammond is welcome to simply call him Thor. Another scene putting Kinsey firmly in his place!
wish we had something like that now to put all of the out of control children called corrupted supposed leaders of our homes in there place as well and get them to behave
Kinsey is such a politician
You put an interesting aspect of Asgard behaviour. They talk to us in first name basis, but if we take their position as gods in the Norse pantheon (Thor, Freya, Heimdall, Tyr...), they are also very important entities. The respect and gratitude humans have to those gods is uncontested and the Asgard feel no need for titles. If such an entity as Thor insists on me calling him by his title, he sees me at least as an ungrateful git.
@@keithrees4755 It's called the 2nd Amendment, and it's not been used in far too long. That's literally the only reason it was included in the US bill of rights.
@@willdavis3802 i think some persons have forgotten about that right even more so when persons say they destroying there own firearms or turning them into the control freaks
The most unrealistic aspect of Stargate SG-1...The Chinese government giving its people full disclosure of any event.
If the cccp can benefit from it.then yes they would do that.
not just the cccp, but yeah. If a power can diminish the influence of another, while painting themselves in good light, then why not.
Pip Bernadotte especially considering with recent events
Especially if the ccp can legitamaly claim look at what we got you. This super advanced tech.
@ComocosonoEWL Simple. You make it public and do a world economic ban on USA. They fall economically within 2 years. Tech wise in 5 years. And in twenty, lose half of they scientific power due to the brain drain.
I've always wanted to see a storyline where Thor took Hammond's words at face value and starts dropping in to visit him, including occasionally at his home, lol.
Hammond just chilling with his grandkids when Thor drops by for a visit
@@zippacna E.T. Phone home.
Thor pretty much dropped in whenever he wanted and kidnapped the team all the time so it wouldn’t be much different. Coming to hammonds house would’ve been weird though.
@@zippacna lol, I'm imaging him dropping by so often that they let "Uncle Thor" babysit the grand kids.
i would of loved some scenes like that, honestly if there was webisode concepts like we have now a days i could of seen an entire side series of casual moments. Maybe we see bra'tac sitting around as daniel is working and asking him some questions, seeing the old man genuinely be curious about the ancients and even trying to follow some of daniels more energetic talks.
Thor just casually warps in his chair to SGC to just chat. "I had a moment of relative inactivity, and i find speaking to you, most enriching" and such. We rarely get casual episodes and i felt the show could of used a few more.
The chinese advocating full disclosure to their people. Lol.
Not like the Chinese had a huge stake in the program. But it was more of a negotiation tactic because the SGC/US wanted to keep it a secret from the public. Basically leverage to get a bigger piece of the pie
@@nashvilleoutlaw exactly
Yeah I laughed so hard when I first saw that and I was like 12.
By "people", likely just meant the Central Committee of the CCP.
Nah, that's just them leveraging hypocrisy to project power. Like when China engages in torture, rape, brainwashing, and genocide against the Uighur Muslims with one hand, and lectures America about how racist, sexist, and religiously bigoted we are with the other.
The CCP and its syncophants will say or threaten literally anything they think will get them an advantage. "Oh, you want to keep this secret and maintain control, well, I guess we just have to tell everyone. Unless... You're willing to give us what we want."
Notice when Thor says "..it is preferred" his eyes partially close/squint/whatever you want to call it in a way that conveys far more than just his diplomatic words. Well played indeed!
Well noticed! The Asgard are a very advanced race, I believe Thor translated facial expression to what human's body language is attuned for :-)
It is preferred. Translation. We won't break ties with your people if you put someone else in, but we have a trusted relationship with the ones currently administering the gate. It could take quite a while to rebuild that trust with a new gate administration. This might, unfortunately cost lives. Do you really want to risk that?
A veiled threat. An iron fist in a velvet glove 😊
@@Locktwiste72 A perfect analogy.
@@kellyrayburn4093 This is frequently the way the Govt of the PRC express their wishes. Using the passive gets the message across without a certain loss of face.
The thought that someone like Senator Kinsey actually exists and actually made it to the Oval Office definitely shows that there really is not so much fiction in science fiction.
@Etcetera no, he wasn't. He was opportunistic and resourceful, but not smart. He never bothered to learn about things he was dealing with, instead depending on God's will and being told what to do by others. He got to where he was solely by the work of others and was only useful to the Rogue NID for his position and was completely expendable. He was a soulless parasite who got lucky.
@Etcetera But it should be said he was a fun character on the show all the same. (And still alive, to boot, albeit possessed by a Goa'uld) Plus any chance to see Ronny Cox at work is never to be turned down.
@Etcetera Actually, Senator Kinsey reminds me of John McCain, Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Andrew Cuomo, Chuck Schumer and others in Washington DC more than Trump. When face with actually facts, they pretend they act on behalf of the interest of the United States when in reality, their interest are in complete political control and the expansion of their wealth and political influence.
@@willcruz943 dunno how Bernie fits into the typical establishment, but k
@@stargatecommand714 Guess how he was able to buy three houses and a sports car ? Let me give you a hint, it’s not from his salary as a Senator. Politicians who accuses others of wrongdoing are often the same ones doing it themselves. Sanders is one of them. Always remember this, look at the actual deeds not the words and the rhetoric and you will get the actual measure of that politician.
As Jack said of the Asgard :-
“Don’t you just love those guys ?”.
Wonderful intervention by Thor, especially correcting Senator Kinsey “SUPREME Commander”!
This whole scene was a political power play by Thor and the SGC. The only language a politician like Kinsey understands. He knew right there he had lost this battle.
the orville season 2 episode 14 in the moment one when i saw the smuggler ship i actually saw the earth carrier battleship from STARGATE SG-1 with little bells thrown on top, but once i saw that then the shuttle interior from STARGATE ATLANTIS was there and so on and soo on
THEY ARE USING THE STARGATE SG-1/ATLANTIS filming sets and ships little modified and even space scenes modified a little and the ORVILLE looks like an ORY ship and even has the same faster then light start up of the engines and they are using the same special efects on Orville like the ORY ship was using
when you realize that they are using the same STARGATE SG-1/ATLANTIS filming sets and look-a -like ships with some little modifications YOU JUST CAN NOT UNSEE THAT then you realize that the space stations the citys and the planets are actually scenes from STARGATE SG-1/ATLANTIS with little modifications but once i saw the smuggler ship fro s02e14 i saw STARGATE SG-1/ATLANTIS everyware and there is nothing original nothing and even the jokes and word by word are from STARGATE SG-1/ATLANTIS
crazy stuff
the orville is actually the stargate sg -1 / atlantis with a little modifications I MEEN LOOOOOOOOL
THE ORVILLE = STARGATE SG1/ATLANTIS
one can not compare stargate sg1/atlantis with STAR TREK or STAR WARS just because they just are not in the same category
Imagine if Thor didn't take Jack's statement in jest....
Thor beams out, followed by Kensay
That would have been awesome! Certainly would of put the other Governments in their place!
it would have made me love Thor even more
Thor doesn't even actually have to beam Kensay to a distant planet. He just has to beam Kensay to Kensay's own living room. But to the other representatives in the room, it would seem like Thor followed O'Neill's suggestion, and the optics itself would be more than enough to put them in their place.
Hammond of Texas is truly an amazing character in the show. He is a true leader who truly cares for those under his command. And he also knows how to play the dirty game of politics. While the SG personnel are protecting earth from external alien threats, Hammond has to protect the SGC from internal threats from earth's politics.
This one is here is his finest moment in the political game. Another memorable moment is when he straight up pulled his general rank on colonel Maybourn to have the later kicked out of the SGC.
Translation: Who has control of your gate won't affect our alliance, but it may affect our friendship somewhat. Do you really want to do that?
Lol in real life, they wouldn’t care. No way would they let Americans keep control of it
Pyro Head that makes sense about where it should be located but... other countries not allow the us to acquire advanced alien technology.
@@gizdonk if this kind of device exist it should be shared no matter your nation like CERN.
Well they didn't keep everything to themselves...like....both the russians and the chinese got their own ships...sure none of them had a long run and the russian one was for their gate but still, they did that.
@@TheValentineEnemy The Russians blackmailed us for their ship and the Chinese probably did something similar. Like either give us a ship or we will go public with the Stargate. I think the United States was a little stingy with battlecruisers and F-302s. Earth is too important for one nation to defend by itself.
Another thing to consider, do you really think an intergalactic enemy hellbent on destroying or enslaving your planet is going to care about your geopolitical differences.
One of my favorite episodes, I absolutely love it when Thor puts Kinsey in his place.
love how thor raised his hand to correct kensey
He did just raise his hand, he dropped the Hammer
it was Mjölnir
small part of me was hoping that he was somehow signaling his ship to beam Kensay to some random planet
Too bad he didn't "accidentally" lower it on the button to beam kinsey somewhere unpleasant
Hammonds drop the mic moment.
Not before Thor Dropped the Hammer when he reminded Kinsey that he was the SUPREME commander
Watching Jules-Pierre Mao talk of reservations and disclosure is quite the experience. Man was averse to either in The Expanse.
Badass moment for a badass good guy. Thor is a dead set legend. Pop by for a beer anytime ya absolute lad.
Honestly, Hammond is one person you do not want to play poker with, because reasons.
Yeah, you think you have him cornered with your four of a kind, and bam, he hits you with a straight flush.
@@VestedUTuber I think you'll find that in the SGC it is called a kawoosh.
"Supreme Commander" Senator sit on this finger and rotate.
It helps to have friends in high places. Especially help that you've _earned_ and not _bought_ .
I like how O'Neill put it in the episode where he went undercover with the NID. "We don't their tech. We need THEM."
And that got the other guys attention. When a ancient civilization tells you that these guys have saved their ass and earth, that's like telling them they're the All-Star team.
well played, indeed. i like the E.T. allusion, with that "finger" :) how cute was that? loved this show so much. they didn't take themselves too seriously but always put out good quality tv and the characters were memorable and had good actors working with very creative scripts.
Senator Kinsey thought he had friends in high places.
General Hammond knows better friends in even higher [literally...] places.
It's often looked down upon when a tv series does a "clipshow" episode, but I always thought this was one of the better ways to do so AND keep it canon with the storyline of the show
This series did clipshow episodes quite well.
@@samsonguy10k Indeed. They tended to stick to the formula of incorporating it into a storyline of its own for the episode... not just have the characters spend the entire episode saying "Hey, remember when this happened?" *clip* "Oh, and when that happened?" *clip* (etc)
It is wonderful when shows that do clip shows manage to do them super well. Especially here where it really puts into context how much crazy stuff they've gotten up to since they started.
Honestly the best kind of clipshows where ones that used clips to have their own story.
The best scene in SG1 for me - love it. "Supreme commander".
Hammond of Texas,
Friend of Asgard.
"Supreme Commander"... a whole different level of giving a bad guy the 'finger'...
SUPREME Commander Put some respect on that.
Thor dropped the Hammer
The arrogance! How can you forget (?!) or not consider the status of an out of this world and unfathomably advanced race ambassador?
The alien ambassador is military, supreme commander of an alien fleet of star ships, for crying out loud!
Kinsey and the audience have to suppose they are also a technocracy, based on what few clues we have on their society. They are benevolent (Nord-Viking culture), but they also are a race of honor and warfare that have the ability to deconstruct you, on sub particle levels, for your hubris.
@@BBBrasil Well as Jacob/Selmak aptly put it - Having the supreme commander of Asgard fleet owe you one, is far more valuable then a goauld ship that would never fly again...
Don S Davis was a major reason the show was successful.
We have 400 Kinsey's running things now. and we're probably down to about 1 or 2 generals like hammond. Looks good in the movies, but hardly the stock in reality in our pentagon full of perfumed princes. No More Wars.

I'd say this scene is on my top 5 SG-1 moments. "WELL PLAYED.'
Just love how this smart, powerful and advanced alien comes in, says 'Sorry people, but we want them at the wheel. Like... WE REALLY WANT THAT!!'.
This would probably make them fill their pants quickly (especially Kinsey, being put in his place like that), but just to be sure they'll make the right decision --> 'Oh and we're gonna give these folks some pretty fancy upgrades (shields, weapons,...) so they'll outgun you even more than they already did' :) :) :) :) :)
love the way you phrased all tham :)
I have watched the entire series from start to end at least 4 times now over the years, and it is still GREAT. God I wished they hadn't canceled it when they did. I think that with just replacing characters one or two at a time every 8 years or so this show could go on on forever like Dr. Who. You have the entire multiverse as a playground and an infinite number of worlds and races to explore and meet. How can you possibly run out of ideas? Plus there is over a centuries worth of S.F. that has been written (from all over the world) to pull from. Hell, just doing the E.E. Doc Smith Lensman stories could be done over a 5 to 7 year arc. How about the Foundation Series?
So damn true. I love how they build on almost every piece of story they produced over the years. The guys writing Starget and its spinoffs had clearly a lot of fun writing it. You can feel it and it remains timeless. Not even the early 2000's low TV-Budget CGI can fuck this show. I will love this forever I know it!
You know a show has been running a long time when it has multiple episodes devoted to flashbacks of previous seasons.
Sci-fi shows have a lot of what i believe are called, "bottle shows", in which they include scenes from previous episodes, Stargate SG-1 had more than most. I suppose a lot of it has to do with budgets. Star Trek TNG, DS9, and Voayger allahd seven season runs, and that seemd about riight looking back, the writers are going to start to run out of ideas and the quality drops.
Love how Kinsey looks at his finger before putting it down. "Preferred " translated "Kiss my ass". Also when Thor says preferred his eyes narrow in his best Vito Corleone impersonation.
"Disclosure" should be the entry episode for younger / new viewers.
It has lots of spoilers, but if you take into consideration that this is a tv show that last for 10 years and 2 spin offs, anyone should guess that the heroes always find a way to win.
It shows adventure, sci-fi and humor. The episode show-cases different kinds of adventures and villains that might spark curiosity for more.
Honestly was for me. I started watching in season 2 or 3 so ye, this worked a treat.
It started with a movie.
Rip Don
"Senator Kinsey. O'Neil suggested I send you to a distant planet for your fucking actions here"
If I could drop one f bomb in any episode at any time, that would be in.

Ronny Cox did a great job of making us hate Senator Kinsey 😉
I sure do miss the Asgard they're pretty cool and I wish Stargate SG-1 episodes would have won the contest against Stargate Atlantis but can't complain they were both awesome
Well played General... excellent
Senator Kinsey is nearly every politician in Washington, which is why the nation is going to hell.
2018 here. They need to make a new SG series. Trek was gone for years, and then Discovery happened, and it rebirthed the sci fi genre. Now is the time for a new 'Gate!
Indeed.
Well there's Stargate Origins but I don't know if you wanna call that a Stargate series..
std is libtard propaganda. To say that it "rebirthed the sci fi genre" is completely delusional, so much its laughable. It certainly helped the syfy genre, the racist and gender focused bigots plaguing the entertainment industry.
how about a TV movie with the old cast. A few of them should lose a few lbs first...not a lot.
I know it wasn't a popular show, but I really want to know what happened to the crew of the Destiny after they went into stasis
Ronny Cox Plays The Best Bad Guy In this Show!
seen this scene many times and theres 1 glaring oversight in the script... prometheus never gets asgard weapons. Its combat loadout from start to its end was point defense railguns, missile tubes and its bay launched F-302's. No earth ship gets an asgard weapon system untill the beam weapons at the end of the show
The Stargate DVD Magazine Collection lists it as Asgard-designed rail guns, they operate with 400% efficiency over old ones.
I always assumed it was the railguns. Earth has had railgun tech for a long time, but it's bulky, slow and a huge power hog. Certainly nothing close to the kind of fire rate we see on the Earth spaceships.
The Asgard know Earth's manufacturing capabilities, and their preference for kinetic weaponry. It would be a walk in the park for them to take that existing technology and make it workable as the kind of guns we see the 303 and 304s using later on.
And if memory serves, we never see Prometheus fire a shot from a railgun before Disclosure.
So Asgard designed, as Thor said, but still way too primitive to be a threat to the Asgard themselves if the friendship should sour.
Funny how the Chinese and French didn't get a thanks 😂
You can tell this is an episode made circa early 2000s by the fact that the russians and the chinese while not too friendly are not overtly hostile. This episode would be impossible today. Times change.
They're getting cozier as they are more hostile to us.

my reply to the senator would been as Hammond. "And thank you Senator for the game you started."
How could the Chinese run the Stargate program since all of the aliens speak English? Lol

Leave it to the British ambassador to be the Most polite when Surprised
I got a kick out of that. "I wonder if they have a blue box?"
This is the best moment in the entire series lol
Michael's Thor was able to restrain himself when dealing with Kinsey. Chris's Thor would've clonked Kinsey on the head with his Hammer.
This tactic is funny and a bit ironic since the US was doing this exact "we want them at the wheel" tactic in Latin countries throughout the 20th century, and then the Asgard did it to Earth in a sense :D
Kinsey just deftly demonstrated to us the concept of “being shat upon from a great height”

Like the way thor cut the senator off at the knees, figuratively of course.
What's interesting about this scene is when Thor talks about what he has brought with him he does not say "the" when talking about _Prometheus_ reflecting military tradition
Little dude has been watching ship histories
what bugged me about this is that Canada seamed to playing a role in the Stargate program but not really doing much beyond sending scientists and personnel, it was implied that the Canadian government knew but was not at the table as it were.
British ambassador reports back to his government: "So then a little, gray alien appeared in a blinding flash of light and told us that the Americans have saved the galaxy countless times..."
British prime minister: "You alright, lad?"
Thor’s finger may be small but it is very strong
2:30 that moment when parts the U.N. start to help fund the SGC
The IOC was a pain in the butt unto itself, but not as much as Kinsey was, fortunately. They actually had some smart people on board.
Beware the wrath of a patient Asgard.
The very idea that manipulators like Kinsey ever stop lying or ever recognize others as equals or ever intend to make the Truth a cause to fight for is a debilitating failure of not only SG1, but virtually all of the major SciFi outlets - SG Atlantis, Star Trek, Trek TNG, etc. included. Only Return of the Jedi showed that Evil has to actually be killed in real life.
This how you write feel good Sci Fi
thanks for the upload it was a very good eppisode.
I agree, but it's one of the lowest rated episodes on IMDB.
While it is an epic moment I always thought it was odd that the chinese delegate was pushing for full disclosure to their people.
I think they were using the threat as more a leverage tool to get more access to the SG program.
Playing politics
Even if you don't want something, if you more your opponent hates it even more you'll use it as a bargaining chip
Part of why everything's so fucked
Love how the Chinese ambassador says "his government will want full disclosure". Who dose he think his kidding. The CCP will do anything to keep the program a secret for their own benefit. May even try to work out a deal with the system lords to improve their position.
Hell they probly unleashed the carona virius on their own people
He is not kidding, he is bluffing. It was a tactic to gain political capital if they disclosed the whole world would find out not only the Chinese people. They just never got to the point where China can say exactly what they want in exchange for their silence.
Idk if anyone else made this joke but

"And to install Asgard design shields and weapons on Prometheus."
I'm still waiting for those weapons. Last I checked, Prometheus only had railguns and missiles until...well, the Ori happened.
Asgard “designed” shields and weapons. The distinction is that asgard helped with a few improvements. The full scope of their tech was not haded to the humans until the final moment of the Asgard existence. The weapons were able to auto target in season 8 ep12, and were very effective against Gou’ld tech. And the shields withstood the attacks from Anubis’s flagship. The Asgard were very careful to not advance any species tech too much, as it would violate what the four races stand for. Still, it wasn’t until the Asgard, the last active member of the four races who vowed to protect the galaxy died, that they we t back on their principles, and passed the responsibility of the protection of the galaxy, to the fifth race.
The Stargate DVD magazine had a deleted script scene from an episode highlighting the rail guns were Asgard enhanced, operating at 400% over the old ones.
Asgard designed WEAPONS on Prometheus. W00t?
And shields, don't forget the shields
Who got played
I always wonder what the Asguard weapons were that were supposed to be installed on the Prometheus.
As far as I know, the only weapons the Tauri received, were the plasma beam weapons near the end of the series?
I think it’s asgard designed sensors on their rail guns and missiles according to the wiki page. It’s just “designed” it’s still earth tech, just enhanced
Human Main Earth Governments are in the Judgement Day since about Summer 2012, tested to choose to wich path they wanna proceed to eventually be civilized enough for the Space community...
Can you say that again in English??
Got to imagine the Ambassadors explanation to why they signed on a big expense military program.
Well met an alien, his upgrading the US ship in orbit. Yeah I just figure best to just go along with them.
Okay, I know Michael voices Thor. But... what do they do to his voice? It doesn't sound like Daniel.
I miss this show, it had good writting and unique story. Not in your face political correctness gone wild, it was there but in the right amount and at the right time.
The only detraction I take from this scene was the contradiction that subsequently arose during Atlantis Season 2 - Episode 1.
Daedalus arrived.
Sheppard asked the colonel in command why no Asgard offensive weapons.
The answer was... the Asgard were reluctant to share weapons that could later be used against them.
Sensors, Shields, and Transporter beams... but not weapons.
The beam weapon would turn up installed in later seasons.
the asgard gave them everything when they went extinct
Yet... go back to Disclosure when Thor puts Kinsey in his place.
Thor claimed he was there because he was providing the Prometheus with Asgard shields & weapons... as thanks for saving the Asgard from the Replicators.
Except it doesn't Thor says that they were giving them "Asgard designed" shields and weapons, this isn't the same as Asgardian Weapons. It fits perfectly with their minimum interference style, don't give the cavemen direct energy weapons but create a rail gun that can fire without for extended periods without exploding.
@@zalrein Basically, "say goodbye to muzzleloading, hello self-contained cartridges." Or something similar. :)
What did Kinsey want to say before he got shut down by Thor?
I imagine something along the lines of: "I speak for the United States government, and this is a country matter, an earth matter, even. While you and general Hammond may be friends, this meeting really doesn't conceirn you."
He probably anticipated Thor trying to bail general Hammond out and wanted to shut him down inmediately.
