Glad everyone was ok in the crash. Fixing people is not as easy as repairing planes. Replacing the entire main spar on the wing that has a local spar bend in one bay is a big overkill. The spar can be beefed up locally in the area of the bend and be better than knew. Spars (and stringers) can be spiced and diced all day long and pass Military or FAA certifications if you can show the paper work on how it's as good or better. Simple calculations and in most cases, very simple substitutions that anyone can understand. Only concern is creating hard point stress risers and maybe a little weight gain. Hard points can be spread 30 to 1 outside of the area to increase fatigue strength of the material close to the local beefed up area. If u r interested, I can show u how to do it. No charge. I'm a retired aerospace structural engineer that would like to help people in need with aircraft structural repairs or modifications. I repaired Gulfstream and C-130 spars, stringers and ribs hundreds of times.
You are going to push the longerons back into place? Correct repair would be to remove the fabric, remove the damaged longerons and replace with new tubing. Bending the damaged airframe back into place is asking for failure down the road... especially where you have stress from the landing gear pushing up onto the airframe.
There ARE microfractures in the longerons. You can't see them, but know they are there and they WILL fail. I don't want you dead! Please rethink this. Luv ya man.
Great to see the two of you again and good to see you working on getting the Capella in the air again. Now's the perfect time to make upgrades to her while she's stripped down.

He has a whole new plane right there next to the crashed wrecked body of Draco that’s the one he’s going to make into Draco X because the old Draco as he says in the video has too much damage in structural areas although he did take parts off to make scrappy. This is meant to be constructive advice...Have you taken the time to step back and really analyze your actions and possibly inactions concerning safety and procedures? I understand this latest airplane accident was sort of a freak accident that can be explained away, but what led up to the accident. Perhaps inattention to detail, insufficient training/planning, over confidence, distractions, fatigue, etc. Watching you fly the Kitfox was fun. You performed some dangerous maneuvers that are routine amongst the bush pilot crowd, but I figured you had the proper training and took the appropriate safety planning and procedures. But more recently, watching the way you drove that boat! The boat antics made me question your judgement and how much you factor in safety (not to mention Sylvia’s). Jonas just ignores these comments. Expect more "events", sorry to say. Attitude problems we learn about in basic training. Macho, Invulnerable, Anti-Authority, Implusive. 4 out of 5.
The laymen would say “it was bound to happen” about anyone that crashes a light aircraft. Let him do his thing I don’t understand all the hate he gets.
This is an example of an experimental aircraft that you don't want to buy on the used market unless you're an accomplished & skilled builder to make the proper repairs. Or have lots of money to hire it done for you. And then it may not be worth the cost & effort. Just build or buy new.
Are you considering dye penetration testing, to look for cracks in the wing spar that survived and the rear spars? As well as the connecting point to the fuselage? Cheers from Winnipeg.
One trick I have learned / used that may have made getting that part off the gear leg a little easier is heating outside metal with propane torch and then taking a can of dust off upside down (sprays wicked cold freezing) and quickly spraying the inside part with that. Getting it as cold as possible shrinking the inside part and outside tube as hot as possible expanding it, taking advantage of Expansion and Contraction. I learned that trick from a member at my local MakerSpace when someone got the collet / endmill stuck in the CNC spindle from not snapping the collet in properly and I thought it was almost impossible to remove without damaging the spindle (I tried what you did, but I had to be more delicate and couldn't get it out) but with that dust off trick it was able to be removed pretty easily after that. (Happened again with another member and I knew how to do the trick that time and it worked, able to get it out in no time + it looked like I knew what I was doing lol) Gotta act real fast though and sometimes re cool / re heat, Even though you already figured it out, maybe in future that trick will be useful.
As someone else said, Surprised you haven't got a Space Heater...... or maybe it's a bit dangerous in that environment. So glad to see you back with planes. Happy 2021👍🇬🇧
If you build a small inclosure around the fuselage & one wing section and wrap it in plastic you can pump in heat with a duct from outside and your productivity is worth the work. You’ll be surprised how few 2x4’s it takes. Done it several times to work in cold unheated hangers. A box in a box. Hi Silvia! She will be happier too and will be willing to help you more. Cheers.
Dear Jonas, after watching your videos I like to see that there are people who have aviation passion in their blood, I am one of the lucky ones to have a Capella SD-TD, even though this model is not manufactured I see that after Several years you have built yours, after watching this video I see that you have fuel tanks on the wings, in my model the tank goes inside the cabin behind the instrument panel and I wanted to remove it from there to place it in the wings, if you would be so kind to help me in some way such as giving me the measurements of the tank and the way the tank is anchored in the wing, I think there is no rib in the place of the tank and the upper cover of the tank is removable fixed with camlok? Thank you very much Jonas and Silvija for your videos, continue like this.
Hey Francisco, i posted the Capella manual in the Facebook group. Possibly that could help. You might need to talk with the designer to see if your wings could be retrofitted for wing tanks. I could possibly ask him next conversation I have.
I have watch your KitFox videos with pleasure. You brought home the joy of flying. I looked forward to the next episode. I stopped watching for a few months because it was evident you were just following the trends of the youtube vloggers - jet boats, paraglider, powered paraglider… It all became a bit sad for me and not interesting. I skydived for years and was a member of a freefall parachute display team; flown fighter jets as a civilian and jumped out of everything from microlights to transport jets; the biggest helicopters in the world to static line from a few hundred feet… all done with progressive advancement, training and awareness and lots of fun. I have know many peers that are now dead; and your flying and attitude concerns me. You went from safe and fun, to dangerous and seemingly ego driven. You are an accident waiting to happen, only you do not see that yet. You are a very talented individual, incredibly capable. You have money, make money and have time, what a privilege. So walk your own path and make great videos in your own style, which is why I enjoyed the KitFox series: Yet, you seem now to follow the crowd and push too hard, playing catch up to a crowd you have no need to play catch up with - And what is it about skimming over water!? I returned to your youtube channel yesterday, and sadly I was not surprised to see your plane broken. As you say, it was not your fault. But, I was expecting it, as probably were most who regularly watch your channel. Be talented (because your are), be serious (aviation requires it), have fun and show off your amazing creative skills; grow some balls and get some additional advance training and stop pushing so hard, you will hurt yourself; or worse, you will hurt your passenger, your fiancé. This will probably frustrate you, because you are so capable and you are always learning and developing, which is the best thing. Aviation is unforgiving. I know many wing suit jumpers, base jumpers, ordinary skydivers that are dead and many planes that have crashed and lives shattered. They were all cool and groovy - Rock Stars - but they are dead none the less. Don't be that guy. And importantly, don't be that guy that kills his passenger or kills the person on the ground.
Good that you checked for run out on prop shaft how about crank shaft twist? Very common for rotax engines on prop strikes with pressed together cranks. Not trying to be a downer just looking out.
MERRY CHRISTMAS - HAPPY NEW YEAR - HAPPY VALENTINES DAY - HAPPY FATHERS DAY - HAPPY BIRTHDAY - BLESSED EASTER - HAPPY MOTHERS DAY - HAPPY BIRTHDAY - not necessary in that order but you both be well now you hear.
A couple of good size leg burner heaters should keep that building at least tolerable. It's good to see you and hope you get back in the air without too much trouble.
OK! You've got your viewership totally on edge.........!!!!!!!! That is excellent video making.......!!!!!!!!!! Soundtrack is good too.........!!!!!!! The Capella...........is the perfect baddie thing that everybody just wants to see killed off......!!!!!!! Can't wait for the next installment....!!!!!
Please de panel and do a wing root inspection using non-destructive inspection to find any hairline cracks and also on the gear. It may cost a little but can you put a price on LIFE!
Love your videos, not a pilot, wish I were so this is the next best thing. I guess you've heard this, but remember, any landing you can walk away from is a good landing, but any landing you can walk away from and still use the airplane is a GREAT landing.........
Is it me, or has it been a while...nice to see you back...have you considered having the main spars X-Ray’ed, yeah, I know it will not be cheap, but piece of mind dude.

@Cynthia Jendlebee 2 air planes = 2 crashes .... maybe rethink this whole flying thing. Take 1 chance too many.
I'd buy it, is a superior design with all aluminum wings, no wood ribs & fabric covering.
They rebuild crunched up airplanes in Alaska all the time.

Cheers.
Good to see you again !
I love his videos!
Hey great to see you posting again! I guess the aftermath could have been way worse.. Order lots of rivets!
Prop PRANG!! Lots of Luck!
Welcome Back.
Good that you checked for run out on prop shaft how about crank shaft twist? Very common for rotax engines on prop strikes with pressed together cranks. Not trying to be a downer just looking out.
I died at the introduction for your sponsor.
Get at least 1 infrared heater, i recommend 2, even if the air is cold, you will feel warm.
Nothing a heavy duty buffer from Acme rentals can't fix😎
You got a few projects going on great I'm sure some awesome content will come out of it good luck with everything and stay safe. ✌✌✌👍👍
Thanks for the update now get back to work LOL. Can't wait till you get her back up in the air.
Good to see your getting the Capella fixed how was the wing attachment points to the fuselage?
get one of them 8kw diesel heaters off amazon. only like 300 bucks and works awesome
Please de panel and do a wing root inspection using non-destructive inspection to find any hairline cracks and also on the gear. It may cost a little but can you put a price on LIFE!
It's idaho. It's colder here than any of you would believe! Get a heater jonas!
Love the irony of advertising a eco friendly deodorant when you fly for fun. C’mon the engines!!! 💪💪💪
I wanna see the glasair man!! Haha! Happy new year bud!!
I know! I need to give it some TLC. to many projects.
If I had insurance on it..
I would have walked away from this plane
Love your videos, not a pilot, wish I were so this is the next best thing. I guess you've heard this, but remember, any landing you can walk away from is a good landing, but any landing you can walk away from and still use the airplane is a GREAT landing.........
We've missed your aviation vids! Keep our fingers crossed for this bird to be back in the air!
Great video!
A metal building is like an icebox good thing it hasn’t been that cold this winter yet.
"Cold" ? it ain't Snowing in there. Thanks for the update.
Nice to see airplane videos again.
Is it me, or has it been a while...nice to see you back...have you considered having the main spars X-Ray’ed, yeah, I know it will not be cheap, but piece of mind dude.
Great, you should install your airspeed indicator in the right side. More safety
Looking forward to seeing the Capella in the air again 😀
"Oh my gosh! She came off!" after beating it with a big hammer is the best one liner ive heard in a while
