Great topic and constructive points made, as usual. It's really about expanding rather than putting limitations on the creative possibilities when shooting street. For beginners or for us who have done this for many many years, three things to remember in street. 1. open yourself up to the unexpected. 2. avoid the banal. 3. open yourself up to new ways of seeing and shooting - from above eye level, to eye level, all the way to the ground. I would say 1/3 of my street photography images have been shot from the hip, or thereabouts. I really like the composition and mood that can be achieved when shooting from the hip.

Almost all of my "street" photographs are now shot blind - although not this one - and almost all from the hip. I just couldn't get the shots I want otherwise.

@@Fitzrovialitter Have you gotten better at visualizing (despite not looking at the scene) how the composition will look, the more you used this technique?

@@aperez4198 Thank you for your comment. Here's my take on it.
I have definitely gotten better, but the focal length of the lens you are using makes a big difference on how easy it is to visualize what you are 'seeing' when you "shoot from the hip". A non-photographer once astutely commented to me that my hands were my eyes when I shot blind.
Short lenses from 12 to 35mm (in 35mm equivalent terms) don't take long to acclimatize to with a bit of practice.
The long lens I mainly use now is 45mm (90mm in 35mm equivalent terms) and is extremely tricky to get right for street photography, and will need a lot - and I mean a lot - of practise and trial and error.
One thing I've realized is that zone-focussing usually provides more in-focus shots than auto-focus, at least with my equipment.

@@Fitzrovialitter thank you. I have a full frame camera with a 35 mm lens. so I think it won't be difficult for me. I will begin using this technique.

I shoot from the hip and a lot of the time I find the feet are chopped off / too much space above the head of the subject. Bad at judging the angle I guess. My screen doesn't tilt.
