You can tell CA actually gave a fuck with fall of the samurai, everything from the crack of distant gunfire, the march music, even the quality of the ship battles were just peak Total War - great stuff as per mate
Honestly, I think it's quite a poetic end to the battle as the terrified Police force unit under the constant fire makes a run for it and hides in the temple, hoping that's the imperial soldiers won't commit such blasphemy as destroying the sacred place and then the Armstrong guns roll in and set the structure on fire, burning men inside alive, marking the end of a Shogunate (as the last Shogun abdicates shortly after) and the tradition, swept away by the Meiji Age's modernity. Well-played, sir. Well-played.
These videos do not have as many views as your other videos but i personally found these some of your most enjoyable content and have rewatched each of these historical battles you uploaded multiple times
Masterfully performed Volound. It does however put one of Shogun 2's faults at great display, namely the docking mechanic. It makes the AI appear braindead and unable to respond appropriately to your actions. The docking of units is simply to restrictive and binary, locking them in place, prohibiting turning their aim. Ideally we would have seen CA implement a more dynamic interaction between cover and units. Of course, nothing like that would ever come to light in their sequels as they are knees deep in archaic code by now.
In my mind shogun 2 and fall of the samurai was the peak of total war and probably the way things are going the last time we see a line infantry total war game. That said even in shogun 2 you could tell the engine was having problems the way units had to form and reform multiple times before they could fire just like in empire. To this day I never use carbine cavalry because of the amount of issues I had with them just sitting there looking at the enemy because one model was stuck on a tree.
Guns should have retained their damage with insane load times and low ammo counts in warhammer, but no, a hippy with a bow does more damage than a gun... Makes me want to re-play a few, I have ONE achievement to get on that game, and I don't remember half of the game.
Remember when CA had standalone expansions? Medieval kingdoms and fall of the samurai were the greatest additions CA every came out with. Worth the price they were sold at. Today, for one extra faction(that’s reskinned) and a gay wizard, it cost 1/2 of the base game.
I cant beat this one to save my life and after watching this....i've come to the conclusion...that i'm just bad...omg I'm gonna have to watch this two or three times to figure it out...also just to verify the archery dojo....does the ammo refill only work once or can you just keep refilling?
one of the main purposes of these videos is to show how shit warhammer is and you can hear me explaining how shit it is at multiple points. and nope, no intention of playing fallout at the moment.
These videos inspired me to reinstall shogun 2 and replay these battles in legendery.I barely won Toba Fushimi, gave up on Osaka because I messed up, passed Ueno and Aizu on my first try somehow.
warhammer is a really good game with a unique setting and very varied mechanics. Its not really fair to compare it to historical tw since its not even trying to be like them, its just a completely different premise. The same excuse can of course not be applied to other tw games like 3k or troy (also i will never forgive ca that they removed detachable units, warhammer or not)
@@Voloundyeah even the warhammer games could benefit from some of the features that were in older games and they are worse for it, but they dont suffer nearly as much as historical games
@@Volound i wouldnt go that far. maybe the first one, but not the other 2. thy have a lot of unique features and the battles play very differently. aslo the scale is obviously on a different level in wh3
the past 3 months have gone about as well for CA, as one of these shogitai headlong banzai charges directly into imperial guard infantry.
As Quintus said in Gladiator: "people should know when they are conquered"
"im a soldier. i obey"@@KroM234
I'd rather be a shogitai ngl
im so glad you went back to making total war content.

When a DLC was a whole new game.
And now new gsmes are a glorified DLC

These videos are great! Your voice is very smooth, and hearing it without the abstract pain/tiredness present in the CA videos is a wonder

Such a good game, and not a single space ballerina or Sonic the Hedgehog statue "merch" in sight...
the burping farting shitting monsters are missing
this channel as this game are criminally underrated and unrecognized. Personally, never knew Total War had this level of quality
There are so many great additions to fall of the samurai. Seeing them brought to full use to devastate enemies is so satisfying.

hope you do the naval battle with the kotetsu as well, it always crashed on my pc so could never finish it 😂

Well done Volound
KEEP EM COMIN
These videos are making me go back and play the older TW titles again, and taking a closer look at better times.
Any plans on finishing the Shogun 2 FOTS historical battles? I really love how you deconstruct each one in detail
Very satisfying these videos
I would love to see another Shogun 2 tournament from you, but fall of the samurai this time.
every time I load into a battle in a campaign or the historical battles I always read the names for no reason

sorry for unrelated post but just to say that on 25/11/23 Pharaoh is sold for 19.99€ (-67% !!!) on instant gaming ! What a hit !
What graphics settings you using and what hardware? I use 5800x3d and 7900xtx and my game is a mess and framerate is in the gutter
Will the climax of this historical battle series be the start of a new legendary campaign? One can only hope.
I got shogun 2 on steam sale and i regret not having it before
Impressive !

As much as i love Empire, no tw will or has ever come close to the level of polish that shogun 2 had
MY LOWD!
Holy shit, content without bitching from volound, this is great! Any chance you continue your falllout 4 run? :D

but Soyhammer 4 has dudes who cast spells and dragons and they cast spells and stuff!1!11!

senior people at CA i.e. director level positions themselves said it. im just repeating it.@@Black.Templar_002
Decent game, but could do with more units that come
would be basically unwinnable for most players if there were.
