She looks more accurate than Civ 5 considering that she became the empress at old age. Also the voice is pretty natural and much similar to her voices in many TV series about her that I watched since childhood. Nice portray. 👍🏻

@@PauloSergio-ip8ef I believe @yearn1314 was referring to the large Buddha statue sculpted to the mountain, Wu herself, commissioned this work. It is also believed by some that this Buddha was bearing her face. By myself judging, the eyes of that statue look quite feminine.
I used to enjoy the old style, showing all the leader abilities. This way it doesn't show much about it.
Either way I can't wait to play as those three new leaders
Wu Zetian definitely looks and sounds older this time than in her last portrayal.
Interesting choice to have a returning leader portrayed at a different point of their life and rule.
[Edit: Not saying this hasn't been done before, see the list of interesting examples in the replies, just noting that the difference is quite striking. Wu Zetian looks less like a 'graceful delicate flower' this time and more like a wise and stately ruler who's presence commands respect.]
They did the same thing with Pedro II this time around
she was a reigning empress when she was older
Victoria looks like she's in her 20s. Compare that to how she looked in Civ 4.
Compare the depictions of Catherine in III-V
She became the Empress at the age of 66. So an older portrayal is more suitable.
Wu Zetian is finally speaking like an Emperor by using the personal pronoun 朕 that was reserved for the Son of Heaven alone. (similar to "royal We").
I'm glad that her voicelines seem to be using more Classical Chinese grammar structure compared to Civ 5 (where she sounded too modern.)
I also appreciate her older model, considering how she was in her 60s when she became Empress-Regnant.
Remember when the spotlights were a 5 min dive into what the leader abilities were and some example uses?
I would like those too wish they would just do a first look with all leaders and break their abilities down.

@@jefferyhanderson7849 Well possibly. She was the only female ruler of imperial China, and women wore seen as property back then. So it's possible that some of those stories might be fiction. But she was an amazing ruler for her people, she pushed for equality, stopped a famine, and defended China from an invasion by the Tibetan Empire.

Funny, in the voice she says ''I'm Wu Zhao(朕乃武曌)'', which is the accurate name she had when she was the emperor. But the subtitle says ''I'm Wu Zetian'' instead.
The subtitled translations for leader dialogue have been weirdly inconsistent from as early as the first Civ 6 leaders, no clue why that is, there's no way the translators can't have noticed this.
As someone who cannot speak Chinese, I replayed the video three times trying to hear the "Zetian" part, lol.
Maybe her abilities will be something linked with loyalty (with her into talking about love and fear and how the world will bow to her) or with the spy or counter spy (again her intro talking about machination of her court and the poisoned blade). Can't wait to see !
This style and the Civilization V one are beautiful, I like that this one looks more natural, it's better than full of makeup.
Any guesses/predictions on her agenda? Wu Zetian was a ruthless empress who killed or exiled anyone who dared to undermine her authority.
Going by that concept, perhaps she'll be permanently more hostile towards leaders that commit espionage against her and friendlier to those that have never been caught crossing that line?
Similar to Ba Trieu's ability but more focused on internal conflict instead of an external threat?
Glad she introduced herself as Wu Zhao as Wu Zetian was used after her abdication.
Despite 皇后 is the wife to the Empreror/King, 后 does not mean female.
In fact, ”后主“ usually means the last Emperor / King.
Wu Zetian calling herself "后主" sounds funny and the devs definitely did not find someone with Classical Chinese (文言文) knowledge when writing the script.
Make iOS version playable again pls. The ‘place-holder text’ bug leave you in the dark. No way to monitor great person points other than estimate. Diplomacy point totals are a complete mystery. I have several thousand hours and this is maddening.😅

I'm actually really psyched to play as her, but I'm not sure what her abilities could be, perhaps religious china due to her ascending to the throne with the help of Mahayana Buddhist monks, or maybe espionage like Catherine de Medici? Possibly loyalty because she is beloved by her people? maybe a combination? I have no clue but I know I'm gonna enjoy myself.

Luoyang is a possible capital for Wu Zetian during Tang China. As for the Yongle Emperor of the Ming, it will be the current capital Beijing.
Just show the abilities. That's like 90% of what people are looking for in these videos.

@@paxphonetica5800 they are different. An empress is the wife of an emperor. In a patriarchal society like Imperial China, women are considered inferior. It's even stated in Confusian writing that women are not capable of ruling like men. So she, bearing the title of emperor, means that she is the ruler. Probably the equivalent is empress regnant. Typical empresses did not have the same power as her.

Does anyone notice how the actress pronounces "w" in Chinese, as something like "v"? I'm ethnic Chinese, and I normally hear "W" as "W" (as in wei), not "v".
Don‘t you notice the voice actor of Qin Shi Huang does it as well? Linguistically speaking it's called a phoneme.

No. The face not accurate at all. They make her look like Malay or Indonesian person.
Wu zetian is typically depicted as being very light skin and having a much smaller nose. Her eyebrows are usually pencil thin and full length
Civ 6 Wu is much more accurate than Civ 5 Wu considering she actually speaks ancient chinese now and looks older (she became emperor when she was pretty old).

Voice actor did gj, but why she call her self as "Hou Zhu"? A bit weird. I guess voice actor tried to find a word to align the "Empress" in Fraxis' transcript.
后主 is the last emperor of a dynasty. Which I would guess is referencing her founding the Zhou dynasty and having it end with her.
@@mistylavenda I don't think so. "Hou Zhu" should be called from another person's perceptive, to indicate the last emperor in a dynasty that was already collapsed. There is no reason an wu zetian claimed herself as the last emperor when Tang is still there.

Empress can also refer to a female emperor, it doesn't just mean 'wife to the emperor'.

There is a reputation for having a good governance, but the fact that he emerged over other great leaders seems to have played a major role in the fact that she was the only female emperor in Chinese history. Emperor Qin Shi Huang is actually not a worthy person to appear except for the title of the first emperor.

@@paxphonetica5800 they are leaders of the roman empire, it is quite different from Italy. Modern day Italy is the result of a mixture of different cultures that clashed together after the collapse of the roman empire. The german tribes, the vandals from north Africa, Byzantine influence from the East. During the Middle Age it was literally split between Austria, France, Spain and the Pope (with few notable exceptions).
So there are about 1400 years (more or less) between the fall of the western roman empire and the formation of the kingdom of italy and in 1400 years a lot changed. Italy is home of the roman empire but the roman empire is not italy neither italian (same reasoning for the gauls and france)
