Ma'am, for the word style -
I guess it is the magic-e at the end making the letter Y to say the name of the letter I ( One of the 4 sounds of Y)
    Sorry if I am wrong....

    Y makes 3 different sounds
'Yuh' as in Yellow, Yarn, Yogurt
Long e as in happy, funny, lady, baby
Long i sound as in cry, fry, dry, shy, by, my, try
In the word 'style' e acts as split digraph or hop over 'e' which makes the sound of y as long i.So, y says the long i sound.

Please check the video of day 1, where I explained the phonogram chart. You will find the answer.
A quick answer is that "gu" is a phonogram which sounds /g/ and /gua/.
