  • I recently purchased a heat deflector accessory for my old Solo Stove Bonfire fire pit. The Bonfire is the middle size of the three available fire pits from Solo Stove. New for this year are some accessories for the top of the fire pits.
The heat deflector works by redirecting the flow of heat outwards to a wider radius around the firepit area. Without the defector, the heat rises enough to warm ones face and upper body when standing close to the fire pit. With the deflector, the heat is lowered to help warm the waist and chest regions moreso than the face area and pushes air out to a good 4-6 foot radius (1.3-2 meters) around the firepit area.
    Specs:
    Price: currently $169.99. (regularly $224.99)
    Diameter: 25 in | 63.5 cm
    Height: 10 in | 25.4 cm
    Weight: 7 lbs | 3 kg
    Materials: 304 Stainless Steel

Great placement of the camera! It felt like I was sitting right across from you, enjoying a fire ring chat with an old friend!
And after you placed the deflector, I definitely felt the warmth on my face. Or was that the good cheer coming from your friendly character?
You could probably use this method to do a whole series of Fire Ring Chats to discuss various topics. Tell your viewers to bring an adult beverage and put their feet up.
Cheers! And thanks for the good time. Please don’t go back to your planet Nebulous. This planet needs all the friendly creatures we can find.

Great review. I think that makes using a fire trough a little warmer to be around.

Thanks. I'm amazed they have a grill, griddle and a wok add-on accessories for the fire pit. 🔥
I'm working on a few more projects reviews, including a kitty pack. 😺

I like how your daughter sat down on pavers as the deflector according to solo said it was designed for sitting and heating your feet on up while in a chair. Your daughter was totally warm sitting on pavers.
This deflector imo is a MUST!!!

I guess that was the ultimate test to praise its abilities to deflect heat down lower. I figured getting a couple of my family members to give their independent thoughts on it would give better perspective on whether or not it works as advertised. ;). Thanks for watching.

@@MikeycatOutdoors I received my deflector last week and my wife noticed a big difference as well. You basically need a deflector with smokeless pits, unless you counter set one in the ground.
      Thanks again for the video.

Well that just makes it ugly. These fire pits are useless. Just for’looks.

Drill out the hole in the center if you burn pellets, then feed the pellets by loading the bowl up

Pellets have their pro's and con's. Long steady heat, but they can smolder a bit compared to twigs or chunks of wood if the chamber gets overloaded. I wonder if a 4ft long piece of gutter would work to just funnel scoops of wood pellets into the burn chamber from the side, then take it away when done. I've used some oak pellets in my portable solo stove and my biolite gasifier stove, but if you overload it, it snuffs it out a bit. There's just that right amount to add, not to overdo it.
If you ever try it, I'd be curious to hear how it works out. :)
      Thanks for watching.

honestly, i like the pit and everything, but the deflector does not really work..

It does redirect the height of the heat some if you're near the unit. I could feel the difference. It's not going to work differently 10 feet away from it though. It's subjective on where you're at.
The only heat system that would truly warm an entire patio is radiant floor heating in the patio and four walls to block any wind.
      Thanks for watching. 😀

How tall are the legs on the heat deflector? Mine look shorter

Any issues with wind blowing it off?

    • @MikeycatOutdoors
      @MikeycatOutdoors  Рік тому +1

Dunno yet. I'd imagine if the winds are strong enough to blow the top off, they're strong enough to affect the flames and strip any heat from the nearby users. At that point, a storm is probably coming... worst case, put a few bricks on top to weigh it down. Thanks for watching.

I’m not convinced this thing provides enough heat to justify $175. I’ll pass, but thanks for the review.

That's a fair opinion. ;) Much appreciated. It heats better than those large propane tower heaters that all the places used to own. The ultimate is to spend that money on a Milwaukee heated jacket. Thanks for watching.
