CLMN Ice Cover Monitoring

Ice cover monitoring is a straightforward type of lake monitoring conducted by volunteers in the Wisconsin Citizen Lake Monitoring Network. Volunteers record the ice-on and ice-off dates each year to calculate the number of days that the lake was covered with ice. We also use the data to look at trends in the dates of ice-on and ice-off, which can impact the lake management strategies used on that lake.
