Padel Match Analysis: INTERMEDIATE Level

  • This game is from a (high) intermediate level match! Again we go over some common themes in the match and finish talking through some of the points at the end!
    The levels (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) are broad and subjective. So whether this is a bit above or below your level there is a lot you can take away! Most of these errors are common whatever your standard!
    Let me know what you think of the camera angle! I used this as it was easier to see the whole court!!
    Which areas of this match can you see in your own game?? Comment below...
    If you enjoy learning more about padel, The Padel School blog has plenty of articles discussing various parts of the game: thepadelschool.com/blog/
    Players that regularly compete and want to look a little deeper into their matchplay can access our analysis products here: thepadelschool.com/analysis/

    Just rewatched this video after a long time. It's very useful to hear you commentate on the play of generally good players like these. Players who are technically sound, but still make some tactical mistakes with regards to court placement and shot selection. Definitely something I can relate to even if these players are probably a bit stronger than myself. Would be great with more videos like this one.

    Thank you for posting these videos. They are quite instructive!
    From this lateral view one can actually notice the court positioning of the players and I can´t agree more with you. The common sin of most intermediate players is that we have a tendency to stay in what you call 'no man's land' where your options for either attack or defense are so bad. It's easy to see it from the outside, but very difficult to automatize and to do in your games.
    I also find really interesting when you use the slow motion.
    Keep it up!

    Wow, what a great video again. Here what really sets this apart from a beginner game is the patience and going for well placed shots and accuracy rather than hitting every ball with all your might. Padel is so much different than tennis doubles in this regard! Will share with the group again! :)

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 роки тому

      Niklas Broman great that you notice those differences. And the step from intermediate to advanced is even more patience and accuracy (with good court position)! The more you get involved in padel the more you realise the huge differences from tennis!

    Great video! Looks like your general volley position in this video in line with the second post or even one step behind - as opposed to what you say in other videos where the volley position is between first and second post. My volley game is really bad, and I think the position that you use here is more suitable for me because it gives more reaction time and sometimes an option to let the ball bounce in front before returning. Normally I don't even serve volley because I find it so much easier to hit after the bounce (luckily my opponents don't come forward to punish me either). Do you have any general advice on volley positions for players who are a little uncomfortable with the volley?

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  2 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment! The reason we say the "second post" or slightly in front is because usually it gives you enough time to hit a good volley or enough time to react should you be lobbed.

  • @thairk
    @thairk 2 роки тому

    Thank you very much for sharing this video. One question. At 5:40, I see that your partner is serving and you are taking your position yet in a place that I cannot really identify, is that the correct place you are standing at or it is indeed the no man’s land you talk about?

      Michel Raveyts a controlled shot into the corner or middle (he’d have kept a decent net position and forced them back). I recommend only going for that aggressive shot if you can hit it out of the court or finish the point...

  • @giacomobertazzolo6722
    @giacomobertazzolo6722 4 роки тому

    Hi I have 2 questions:
    - at 6:27 there is a “good” change of direction, why is that good? He left a lot of space in the middle
    -at 6:56 he plays a “wrong” smash he should do a bandeja to keep the net?
    Thx from Italy really good video

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 роки тому

      Giacomo Bertazzolo great questions. I said it was a good change only because he hit the fence. If he got the angle wrong and it went to the player it wouldn’t have been. Then for the smash, a good option would’ve been the fake smash hitting softly to the back (like a bandeja) or he could’ve done a topspin down to the fence, would also have worked probably. Hope that helps 👍

  • @SallyPinochet34324
    @SallyPinochet34324 3 роки тому

    Amazing video, thanks for that! One thing isn't clear to me though. At 6:09 when your teammate is serving, you are kind off standing in the no-men-zone.
    I have been told I should never stand there, so does this mean more advanced players do stand there in some specific situations? Or is there another reason for this? :)

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  3 роки тому

      Thank you! That's a great question. Yes, there are times at a higher level where players are standing in no mans land briefly between points, as they are transitioning up (or down) the court. In this particular situation, I think it is just the net position where the player is one extra step back because they are anticipating a lob...

      At the WPT level you see players moving independently as they are analyzing options to come forward, but usually move straight away once they get there. At the level of this game you would most likely suggest to players to move together as a pair.

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 роки тому +1

      When you say defend a good slice, you are at net and they are attacking from the back with slice? If you are at net, that is always the position you want to try and hold on to...often that means hitting defensive/block volleys back into the corners for your opponents and waiting a better opportunity to attack...(hope that answers the question)

      Not specifically a slice shot, but this video I talk about preparing for this type of shot: ua-cam.com/video/qwa78175FdE/v-deo.html and also this I talk about it a bit: ua-cam.com/video/XlguG-OAq-s/v-deo.html. But it might be worth it's own video...

    • @ThePadelSchool
      @ThePadelSchool  4 роки тому +1

      Also, worth me mentioning that if you've come from tennis, it is often the volley mentality that needs to adapt. Tennis players view all volleys as attacking shots, but many times in padel you are trying to setup for the next ball or defending a fast ball. If you can change that mentality, that automatically helps when getting to net! (if you aren't from tennis then its less about changing the mentality then considering it...!) hope that helps.
