    Have you played Equinox? If so, what did you think of it? Have you played the game it's based on, Colossal Arena?

    Haven't played Equinox yet, but this is an excellent teaching video! After seeing how it's played, I'm pretty sure it's a game I'd enjoy. (Also a Knizia fan so that's not surprising!)

      Thanks so much! I hope it makes more people aware of it and helps people with the learning of it. We had a couple early stumbles in our first game of Equinox because of trying to grasp some of the rules or strategies, hoping this alleviates that for people, at least somewhat!

    I have played it some few times at BGA now. The game is in alpha-testing. I like it a lot, smooth and fun.
    I got the game in real life, and also got the special neopren game mat for it. But not played it live it. Also got Colossal Arena, but not played it yet.

    Good video. I think I could play this now still without any idea of how to make mischief. It looks like a game with beautiful art and crisp iconography that has to be decoded. For that I bet the appendix gets passed around, like a lot. This game screams come explore me. Who doesn’t like disappearing critters in a cloud of smoke? The meat and potatoes though are in the special powers and for that the rulebook gets manhandled.

      It's really unique! I'm someone who likes to have lots of different genres and mechanics in the board games in my collection for variety. And Equinox kind of stands alone in our collection right now with the type of experience it is, I would say.

    Not sure if this will get answered, but the rules don't explain what to do in the case where the game ends by exhausting the draw deck. It just skips right to the scoring, but it doesn't tell you how to resolve the end. If you haven't finished round 5, and you don't know what 3 creatures survived to the end, how do you do the scoring for it? Does no one win?
    There was a case when we ran out of cards, but there was still a creature on the 4th round of which a card hadn't even been played yet, so we just considered that one eliminated. Then we eliminated then next lowest creature, so that we would have 3 creatures for scoring. We had to just make up our own rules for it because there's no explanation in the rules book. It would honestly be better if the rules said you just reshuffled the discard pile and continued until the end of round 5. Especially when cards like Carmen and Squeak are in play which can result in going through the deck much quicker.
    Another question: It is allowed to play a Chameleon card on an empty space, rather that just on a creature? We've been playing as if we can, but the rules aren't clear.

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for your question! Under the "Phase Four" part of the rules it says:
      "If you draw the last card of the draw deck, the game ends immediately. Do not eliminate a creature in this round. This is the only case where a game can end with more than 3 creatures still in play."
      So the game would end right away.
      For your second question, yes chameleons can be played in open spots even if there hasn't been a creature played previously.
      Hope this helps!

    IMHO the rules manual for this game is so badly written it makes the game nearly unplayable. This is a real shame as it seems to be a really cool game.
    Played this at a cafe the other day and the experience was not fun at all.
    The number of caveats and exceptions in the rules swamps the core concepts and the manual barely describes basic concepts of play.
    Solution: great videos like this one.
    Basic/advanced play modes.
    Thanks for the video. It was far better than the manual.

    What happens if every player makes a secret prediction? Since you skip phase 2 that means nobody would be playing a card in round 1. Do you just skip phase 2 for everybody, finish up the round, and the start playing cards in round 2? So it would be a row of the grey cards, and empty row for round 1, then starts filling in the row for round 2?

    • @LorcanaDude17

      Play the round until the row is filled up. Multiple turns per round.

    How does the 5th round elimination work if you draw the last card and end game immediately?

  • @DeyaViews
    @DeyaViews Рік тому

    I played Equinox yesterday. Does the game usually end through finishing the draw pile? We got to round 3, then had to redraw cards because we had a tie, and we drew the last card, so the game was over. We were only 3 players. With more players, this would have happened even sooner. The "you must play all your cards" rule in combination with no shuffling cards back into the deck AND the game finishing when the last card is drawn, when there's only 102 cards used in any game, really seems to go fast. And even in a 3-player game you'd never get to a Round 5 since that'd be 3 x 5 x 8 (players, rounds, cards per round) = 120 cards needed.
    What did we miss?

    • @Bunny2086
      @Bunny2086 6 місяців тому +1

      You're not supposed to play all your cards, you play 1 card a turn until there's at least 1 card present for each creature, & you draw back to 8 at the end of each turn. Once a whole row is filled, 1 creature dies off, & you start the next round/row.
