formula 4 is known as the formula stella class. but stella cars are road legal, as in fitting all requirments of a road car, (some dont and they're just for track, but mechanically still able to drive them on the road) just add lights and signals lol insanely fast
I did a season in 07 on a year "dry" lease meaning just the car so I bought tyres etc paid maintenance, at national level the travel is pretty expensive so I tried to cut all the costs and mainly raced in QLD and NSW. Now I'm doing Rally and getting started on a car for Targa Tasmania and simlilar events next year. At the moment rallying a Liberty RS and just bought a R32 GTR for the Targa, its a WHOLE lot actually cheaper then F-Ford and still good if you want to try and make some money.
Can't remember what the specific CAMS license is but you'd need that (check out CAMS website), join the Formula Ford club of your state then just apply, you might be able to do it without being a club member but just download the entry PDF off the website. Anyone can race with the proper licensing, equipment etc.
Formula Vee has 2 categories 1200 and 1600 (you can keep the same car to move up just get a new engine and put disks all round) 1200 is pretty easy I'd say even with a small karting background you'd be fine. I had 5 years karting behind me and did a year in each category in F-vees before Formula Ford and found it a great help our seeing as a lot of F-Ford drivers go straight from 6+ years in karts. In short F-vees no, there are ppl who do it just for fun and serious competitors as well.
Be prepared to spend anywhere from $25,000 aus up to $50,000+ for a car plus you have to factor in things like engine rebuilds, race fees, parts like clutches etc and tyres. Some teams to have a turn key lease arrangement per race but these are pretty crazy expensive but if you do well in karts it could be worth just leasing for 1 round to see how you take to it. I'd also really recommend having a good look at Formula Vee (its a cheaper version of formula ford), it's a great start and fun.
5:22 Even with Tiff allowing Jason to pass, Tiff can still pass like nothing. That proves weight is important than power when it comes to racing. No surprise why sports cars are still in hot demand despite the rise of SUV.
I know the Ford GT used to rule! But today the competition is harder. And you would not necessarily have to pay 3 times as much to get a more sporting handling and faster european car! No doubt the car - though not my style - has som very cool features. Fantastic design, and the engine noise (or music) is chilling. What i meant was that a lot of other american cars has been to low standard...but maybe not this one. Chill!
limited time. if u only put it out for a certain amount of time and dont put many out, the price rises and demand grows plus youre paying for a legend. smart for sale on fords part. but pisses people off.
The other thing don't wait till your 19-20 to get into Formula Ford, there are 16 year olds there. I was 18 and there were a lot of guys younger then me though a few older but the younger you get noticed in it the better for later.
I race Formula Fords in South Africa. Your best bet will be to join the Formula ford club in your country (not sure where you are) and ask them for assistance. Otherwise, contact the racing body in your country, they will also be able to assist you. Good luck
actually...the gt would always win in the longer distances just because of the simple fact it has more hp because the more hp you have the faster it is at those higher speeds...
@yeahitsabigone uh...you can accidentally shift into 4th...you can accidently let go of the clutch before you have completed the shift into second gear? when it's a car you haven't driven before, stuff like this can happen. every tranny shifts differently. since you're such a mighty shifter, these mortal mishaps are unacceptable for you
LOL all the reviews by all the other car journalists. Go watch topgear review of the FordGT " just type in topgear fordgt" and check out the Stig's laptime for this car. It is faster than the standard Zonda and the F430.
Well, if you've ever driven on real racing tires (not DOT Rs or any of that shit) at the limit, then you'd know right away why the FF totally crushes the GT around corners.
140mph?? Obviously car wasnt geared correctly. Can reach 155mph on tracks like Spa. At Snetterton this year, we were faster on the back straights than F3. And Tiff cant drive the car for Toffee. So Much wheelspin. :( Check out Linton Stutely. He was able to get one from 0-60 in 2.9 seconds.
Hey they could be telling the truth with a drag strip kinda thing I mean look at indy car they have v6s and there fast so maybe just maybe they are faster... Than a formula Ford
Lame low-tech unrefined American muscle cars...I would never own one even if I got it for free! Most European sportscars would have done much better on the road course, by superior suspention and stiffness and one keyword: Quality!
Oh an insulted american! Go watch some NASCAR and chill, instead of calling people you dont know for idiots! (Im not!...I've got papers to prove it!) ;-) The car has very cool design and awsome sound, but Its a matter os taste: Refined German engineering, or ameracican tradiation. I'd choose the first! If you prefer the other option its fine with me. That does not make you an idiot in my opinion.

@raichiotto the most advanced bit of equipment in motorsport

Chill!
I think Fifth Gear compliments Top Gear nicely. I like both shows.
Formula Ford just looks fun. I want to buy one, just to take down to the track and do laps in.
What fun is it to go straigt on for miles and miles?
It is good handling that makes a car fun to drive!
happens to even the best of drivers
Single seat race cars will always win...lightweight, balanced and much much faster braking.
I think it means he released the clutch before putting the gearlever fully into the end of the gate.
Given the extremely low weight, the Formula Ford was able to out brake the GT40 on every corner....a hell of an advantage! :-)
@ging93 It's a lot harder just to drive a supercar to equal the lap time of a race car, that's where the challenge lies.
Besides, this is a tv show, not a real race. They should spin a little for the cameras. ;)
Jason not even trying. GT is a great track car.
ford gt has been my favorite car since i 1st layed eyes on it. gt would murder ff if it was a straight way for a few miles
some people says ''I don't see this top gear episode, how is?''

Make sure you've got a good background in Karting or Formula Vee's or something equivalent. Formula Ford is very competitive and expensive.
I love the Ford GT, my favorite car in the world. But it was obvious the Formula Ford would win.
@Ferrariman601 about $50,000-$60,000 Australian or something.

2:50 Tiff sounds like Mr Bean!

"that little swine"
Ha ha, camera on the FF is held on by Duct Tape.
And did they run a Zonda/F430 against the FF? No, that just means the FF would beat a Pagani/F430 by more than it beat the GT. Your logic is flawed.
Well, if you've ever driven on real racing tires (not DOT Rs or any of that shit) at the limit, then you'd know right away why the FF totally crushes the GT around corners.
Yeah mate QLD you?
I wanna see Formula Ford vs. Formula Mazda.
I've raced F-Mazdas. The Mazda is much faster.
140mph?? Obviously car wasnt geared correctly. Can reach 155mph on tracks like Spa. At Snetterton this year, we were faster on the back straights than F3.

How much does an Formula Ford car go for?
It's gotta be cheaper than the GT...
but, the GT is street legal.
You can get a decent used FF-1600 for $20-25,000US.
Both slower than a 1984 Honda vf 1000
No one cares about bike.
Check out the same car racing at brands in The Racer Movie
Search for racertimes
actually a 5.4 liter engine out of a f150
Hahahahahaaha too funny!
give the FF 20HP more...and we will be gone
MOSTRANDO A REAL !
it's a 5.4 litre engine
yes.
But formula ford is more fun :)
Holy shit that ford formula is small.
That is a larger FF1600. Look how small a Swift DB1 is.
Hey they could be telling the truth with a drag strip kinda thing I mean look at indy car they have v6s and there fast so maybe just maybe they are faster... Than a formula Ford
WAY to much wheel spin on the drag....
Plato is one of the most successful touring car drivers in the world... if he's terrible then you are fucking abysmal at driving.
ha ha ha ha
@keemosaabi1 Sure a british touring car champion sucks and your just the best right? World Champion yeah? how many WDC?
@yeahitsabigone its fake so they make him win
but who cares they're both fords....XD
dude u need to get off the internet. ur making too many enemies...

the gt has a horrible driver
