    i really dig the way he said “enslavers” and “people who were enslaved” rather than “slaveholders” and “slaves”- very subtle way to acknowledge that slaves were humans and not possessions/things

    • @TheSaneHatter
      @TheSaneHatter 2 роки тому +33

      It's the current mode in PC language, and rather new. Ironically, it was the thing to say, "slaveHOLDER," just a few years ago, as opposed to centuries of saying, "slaveOWNER," but then it was changed again almost immediately. Trends, rather than moral principle, often drive these choices in language.
      Me, I find the choice to be wordy and euphemistic . . . and by extension, inappropriate and even offensive. I believe that these issues should be confrotnted with honest and direct language, rather than long-winded phrases that are physically harder to say. So while "enslaver" certainly has directness going for it, for example, "persons who are enslaved," does not.

      @@TheSaneHatter Nick, these are the very same people who pervert language to undermine the meaning and truth of the very words they use. I could listen to this narrator's voice all day!
    Also, a friend of mine and I went to the Bell Witch cave about a decade ago. The owners at the time were giving tours (I don't know what they're up to now). Before we went another friend of ours told us that the one time she'd gone there, she'd seen strange creatures following their group back to the place they were staying and she refuses to ever go back. Absolutely nothing weird happened when my friend and I went.
    The area is beautiful and not remotely scary at all. At least not during the day.

      they do say not to take any rocks or anything cause people report bad luck and always send them back. interestingly in the cave, there’s like a coffin and apparently there was a soot where supposedly native americans would leave their torches when in the caves for rituals or whatever else. we were only allowed to go a certain way in because the cave would get more narrower the deeper in you go

      There are actually a lot of stories that Dean told. Everyone in that area at the time regarded him as a great storyteller and that was even before the haunting. Many of the stories about animal sightings are from him, but any writings of his stories were done by others and it's thought that sometimes people took credit for some of the stories he told. Also, his wife was enslaved by another family, but he and his mother came from North Carolina with the Bell family and John Bell thought very highly of him. Not highly enough to free him, though. 🙄

    There's one thing about this video that has forced me to question the legitimacy of the rest of the information covered. This is in regards to Andrew Jackson. Yes, he heard of the Bell Witch and wanted to see/experience it for himself. He had many men with him because he had not yet run for the presidents position, but was either a general or some other high ranking military man. Yes, they were stopped before getting to the property due to troubles with a wagons wheel. Here's where the issue I have takes place. They say here, that after the Witch came back that night, Jackson and his party turned around and abandoned visiting the house before ever even getting there. Now perhaps that was the case for some of the men that were traveling in that party, but at the absolute very least, Jackson made it to the property, and spent a single night at the home before leaving. Jackson made a statement that not only makes it clear he made it to the actual house, but that he had some unusual experiences he couldn't explain during the 1 night he stayed. He was quoted saying something to the effect of, "I would rather stare down and battle the whole of the British army, rather than spend another single night in the Bell Witch home." Something close to that at least. This video makes it sound like Jackson tucked tail and ran away before he even set a foot on the property itself.

      That, in turn, is why some people doubt the story: the poor light in which the story paints Jackson suggest that it could have been a scurrlious campaign rumor from the elction of 1820, when Jackson's opponents would have taken any opportunity to cast the famously combative war hero's courage negatively. And since Jackson's movements during this time are well-documented, and make no mention of any visit to the Bell estate, the story is almost certainly not true to begin with.

    I feel like the enslaved people being the main culprit is the easy obvious answer BUT in my opinion it's his wife. See here's why...
    1. It never affected her
    2. It had the name of the female that lived next door
    3. It acted very motherly towards her daughter sometimes but was hostile too (as a cover up)
    Now I think, it's because Richard has an affair Kate and the wife found out and came up with this elaborate plan to kill him to get his estate and she either had the slaves' involved or she mirrored the events to make it look like them. I could be wrong. But I feel that's it. Everything after that was coincidental and everyone just screamed Bell Witch. or people lied to use it to get attention or monetary rewards to sell it as a story etc.
