Football is the number 1 game in 180 countries out of 195. It’s played by billions of children around the world. The best five leagues are in Europe. The fact that soccer doesn’t require any physical characteristics (like height) like basketball makes it so much harder because anyone can play it. The talent pool is worldwide. Basketball is still an American game. If you haven’t played soccer from a young age it’s impossible to make it because of the skill set required. Giannis started basketball at 14 and is the 2time nba mvp.

American logic hurts my brain. The NBA isn't the only pro basketball league in the world same way the premier league or la liga isn't the only pro football league in the world. What makes football harder is that everyone can play it. There are different ways to interpret football and you can be good at different things. This also why goals don't solely tell who is the best.

That the problem with Americans they are a self centered society which is why there are very quite ignorant of anything outside the States. They are comparing the nature of soccer as a sport with basketball based of scoring, literally comparing two different sports.

You guys are saying that it is harder to get into the NBA than it is to be a professional football player but your comparing a league to a sport. Let me give you an example the NBA is the biggest and most popular basketball league and the English premier league is the biggest and most popular football league. The percentage of kids that make it to the NBA is 0.03% but only 180 out of 1.5 million kids that play football in the uk make it to the premier league that's a percentage of 0.01%. So it is actually harder go pro as professional footballer at the highest level than a professional basketball player at the highest level.

Exactly. I am sure there are players in amateur leagues who score 10 goals per game but wouldn't be able to even touch the ball in the UCL. Players like Ronaldo and Messi are delivering consistently throughout their entire career, in the best leagues, at the most clutch times or moments in the sport. Both have an extra gear they can switch into when it's needed. If you ignore context then you may as well be keeping spreadsheets open and not even bother watching or following football.

I´ll tell why its harder to go pro in football. There may be shit ton of leagues around the world. But there is like 5 good leagues that can be compared to NBA. There is around 250 million football players and there is around 25 million basketball players around the world, quick math says that there is 10 times more football players than basketball players. So 1st of all you need to practice a lot, that is similar to basketball but you must practice more stuff. You must have great stamina so you could run for 90 minutes straight, if you are an attacker you should be able to score 9/10 times, if you are a defender you should be able to never concede and always do well, just to get recognised. If you get recognised you might get to a team and just sit on bench for years. A player could go through his career mainly sitting on bench. Also the injuries are more severe, you could be out for 1.5 years due to an injury and you might never come back the same, also the place where you had the injury might be weaker and any damage to the place could cause another injury which will leave you out for another 1/2 or 1 year.

If we’re talking about playing both sports at a competent/elite level soccer is much harder and it’s not even close.
I don’t think people quite understand that soccer is played primarily with your feet, whilst incorporating other body parts, whereas basketball is played only with your hands.
Humans evolved to be naturally coordinated at handling things. As infants, we navigate the world around us by picking things up and throwing them down. As a result, learning how to handle a basketball (catching, throwing, dribbling, and shooting) is naturally going to be much easier than using a body part that is much further away from our centre of mass, and not designed to handle anything.
Just go out and try this for yourselves. Tell me if it’s easier juggle a soccer ball, or dribble a basketball. Tell me if it’s easier to dribble a soccer ball at full speed (whilst keeping the ball close to your body) or dribble a basketball. Before you consider bullshitting, just remember that I’ve played Sunday league every-week still find dribbling a basketball easier at full speed.
Soccer is a very technically dense game. Much more so than basketball. There’s just so many facets of the game to train from a technical standpoint that basketball can’t quite possibly compare. Just kicking a ball is so technically dense. There’s so many different techniques of passing with just the inside of the food. There’s ways to make it bounce as it travels, dip when it arrives at the receivers feet, curve, spin, pace, which foot to pass it to, where in the space should it be etc. this is just one very niche style of passing. Wait till you get into other forms of kicking (shooting, advanced passing, volleying etc.) … and that’s JUST kicking. Then you have the harder skills to learn: dribbling, first touch, and ball control …
The game is unimaginably dense from a technical standpoint that its an impossible game to master. No one does every single thing great.
Then you have the physical side of the game. Soccer quite simply is much more physically taxing. I’ve played futsal (indoors), basketball, and soccer (outdoors). The sheer amount of high intensity running soccer players have to do without a doubt puts them in a different league of athleticism to basketballers. This is why soccer players have some of the highest Vo2 maxes in the world, and some of the fastest runners in the world outside the sport of athletics.
I don’t mean to discredit the work of basketballers who are quite simply machine athletes also. I’m just stating a fact that on average a soccer player is much fitter and faster than your typical basketball player. There are basketball freaks out there who are insanely well conditioned, but they exist at a much lower frequency than those in soccer.

For references sake, Ronaldinho's first 10 years playing pro he averaged over 0.5 (in his prime, when he was considered one of the best if not the best player in the world) his stats dropped after he left Europe to continue playing on a lower level after having banked money just for fun. the last few years he was playing with a dadbod out of pure love for the game. You can compare that with Mbappe who's only been playing 5 years (is in perfect fitness) averaging 0.6. If you wait 5 more years Mbappe might not even average 0.5 which Ronaldinho did over 10 years. To average 0.5 over 10 years in Football is extremely hard and a football players career often goes way beyond their prime cause the players love the game of football, which is the exact same reason why Messi and Ronaldo are so exceptional cause they averaged higher than Mbappe over 4 times as long of a career. In basketball terms it would be same as comparing a dude scoring 60 points average in 2 seasons and saying hes better than a dude scoring 40 points average over 10 seasons.

Basketball also has a bunch of leagues (Spain, Greece, Australia, Serbia, NBA, France etc). Soccer is more difficult at the top level given the immense physical requirements, the competitive European pyramid system, the sheer number of people playing across all levels.
