for anyone wondering what the aircraft at the start is, it's a long-ez by burt rutan. there might also be some clips of vari-ez's and cozy's as well, which are all basically the same design but modified in varying ways. they're all awesome homebuilt aircraft, very high performance for their low cost
A must watch video for new and experienced pilots. Don't take communication lightly, it is one of the most difficult things to do while flying.
The problem I have with communication is generally speaking ATC speak too quickly instead of slowing it down so the receiver can understand clearly what is being said. Not everyone can process what is being said so fast, so please SAY AGAIN SLOWER. Thankyou
When you listen to ATIS is comes as Information Alpha, Bravo,Charlie etc. That changes every hour. So when you tell ATC you have India it means you listened to the ATIS :)
My question is: What do you do when ATC people aren't speaking as clearly and as slowly as they are doing in the video? I find it ironic that whoever made this video felt compelled to include text so that we would be sure to understand what is being transmitted as we watch in the calm and comfort of sitting by a computer while in the real world of a busy, noisy cockpit, you're sometimes lucky if you can recognize your own tail number being called through what sounds like rapid-fire jibberish.
The Master speaks. Listen up !
@IslandPiot sterile cockpit makes a lot of sense for pilots of small planes. many are less experienced so any little distraction could cause them to make a mistake
@Scote1992 Ya you're probably right, I didn't realize that they made the 172 in a taildragger.
VisiblePulse.....LMAO....."Is your brain full?" That is classic and spot on. I guess some have the attention span of a gnat.
@mormon97 I think it's just a 172. If it was the C185 it would have a prop control as well, not just the throttle and mixture seen @ 6:12
Excellent video! This is great information for someone, like me, who is not a pilot. Thanks :)
"Nice keep it up AIRBOYD"
This video is not in "real" speed, play it at 1.5 speed and you will be listening to reality.😎
i am. thanks for posting airboyd! :)
great videos, lets get them back in circulation
at 19:18 atc says "... go around, right side of runway, left crosswind, your discretion" i am at a loss here: if she is to fly right side of runway how it should be right croswind. what am I missing here?
THANKYOU
@drummerboy5192 I think it's a C185 Skywagon
@Scote1992 nvm i didn't see that you were replying to someone else. I thought you were talking about the plane the woman was in
what does it mean "with india"?
omg! No way im going to stay 20 minutes watching this.
Anyways GJ xD
its a long-EZ, by burt rutan
is your brain full?
did you go to college - were your classes less than 20 minutes?
Funny how they want you to take your eyes off flying to write down instructions but if you did that in a car you'd lose your license. Some 'safety'!
Great video, but two important things have changed since it was made. First, the "position and hold" phraseology has been replaced with "line up and wait." Second, it is no longer true, as mentioned at 14:00, that clearance to taxi to a runway implicitly clears you to cross runways on the way. You must be explicitly cleared to cross. If in doubt, stop at the runway intersection and confirm clearance to cross.
