In 1945, German actor Hardy Kruger (16) deserted from the SS division Nibelungen. 32 years later he played an SS general in A Bridge Too Far. I really liked Hardy's performance in The Flight of the Phoenix in 1965.
He also stole the show in The Wild Geese- the change in his character’s beliefs and preconditioned prejudice as he carries that black African statesman on his back is pure gold! Brilliant actor
Very good. Such an attractive man. He says it was one of the most beautiful films ever made. And yet, some 12 years ago, when I requested that the film be shown at the BFI in London, the woman rang me back to say that, having found out what it was about, "We would never show a film like that." End of conversation.
I really can not see another actor placed in the movie roles you have done. My favorite line of yours is where you say "Essen" in A Bridge too Far.I myself have been in these military situations where you are trying to stress a point only to be blown away by a fool that out ranks you.Hats off to you sir!God Bless!
I watched the flight of Phoenix recently and so in love with hardy Krüger character in that movie. Love that movie and would like to watch more of his movies.
6:50 It was supposed to be Vietnam; early on in US involvement (1962). Yes Hardy was the best actor for this classic role. He's done many other great ones, my favorite being Flight of the Phoenix.
I'm reading Richard Burton's diaries. He was in a bio-pic about Tito in 1971 and did not get on at all with Hardy Kruger, whom he accused of constant displays of petty jealousy. (One film exec told Kruger to his face "You're the Nazi Tab Hunter") Here, Kruger seems much more personable and self-confident than in that account.
It isn't that Steve McQueen did not have talent. His range was a little more limited, though, and the role requires a lot of subtlety. McQueen would have been "acting" too much.
this is the first interview ever, I have seen of Hardy Kruger, remarkable actor
He came off as extremely intelligent. Great actor.
Excellent actor, I love your acting as Captain Potsdorf in 'Barry Lyndon'! Thank you!
What a wonderful interview. Thank you.

Yes, Phoenix and Cybele were his two best!

Gute Erinnerungsgabe, Hardy! I wouldn't be able to remember the details of these events some 40+ plus years ago.
One of my favorite actors. The only film of his that tops this one is Flight of the Phoenix!
Without a doubt....Hardy's BEST performance was Dorfmann in "The Flight of the Phoenix"!!!

Les dimanches de Ville d'Avray, мой самый любимый фильм.
Hardy Kruger is a far better actor than Steve McQueen. Steve McQueen plays only Steve McQueen (himself),-the same in every movie.
