Balance is always an issue with these kinda games and remember everyone is on UA-cam finding the meta! Hopefully they nerf and buff things frequently they should have a start of season patch and a mid season patch to keep it fresh
@@gummyboots I can't say I don't care because balance is obviously essential for every game and more so for a PvP game, but man. Some of these characters look so insanely fun that I don't give a fuck about balance just yet. Let's have some fun first.

Really magik looks so strong a dps that heals and summons a demon to fight for her and she can teleport? Its like doomfist but stronger.
It's fucking insane that a hero shooter has better Spider Man swinging than the free roaming game Marvel's Avengers is. It seems the devs of this game really care about the characters' identity and feel and I'm fucking hyped for it.

@@ClockWork006 It is though. It's large environments/maps where you can free-roam at your leisure. And either way, whatever we wanna call it, if one of these two games should have good Spider Man swinging, it'd definitely be Marvel's Avengers before Rivals.
@@anibalgleza407 what Marvel’s Avengers has is a linear level design philosophy with small amounts of semi-linear elements. Granted, you can roam about the selected area in a mission and complete any available side objectives at your leisure, however the game wants you to consistently keep pace with your teammates and the current main objective as you navigate from zone to zone.
It’s the precise reason why most missions are broken up into multiple parts with loading times and why characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Thor/Mighty Thor are given similar speeds for general traversal (even though Spider-Man and Hulk are arguably the two fastest characters by a significant margin with the final update changes according to personal experience)

It is! I was so worried it was going it be like symmetra's and (for me) difficult to set it down but no it looks very smooth and great
My only gripe with it is that you can scope out the area before placing it down, if the enemies turn invisible or something so you can't see them while trying to place the portal down that'd be better imo

I love the "Suggested Combo" section for new players -it may not be optimal in the long run, but its a great starting point for players trying to get a feel for the hero :)

Surprised I'm not seeing anyone comment on how OP Loki looks. I keep seeing people saying Rocket Racoon looks OP which inherently makes Loki OP. Why have one Rocket Racoon when you can have two? Loki to me looks like an eternal meta pick until that ability is changed. When you have a Loki on your team, you double up on the best DPS, tank, and support of your own team as well as the variety of the enemy team and can utilize the extra role depending on the needs of a situation. The fact Loki even has a solid kit outside of that is insane. It's crazy to me he's only a 4/5 star on in game difficulty ranking when you need to have a good fundamental knowledge of playing every character in the game to utilize him to the fullest. At least knowing how to play every meta pick character well at minimum.
That's his ultimate ability. It's not available very often and it doesn't last for too long

Imagine playing loki/hela/rocket lmao. I'm just picturing loki getting rezzed 2 times in 1 fight using his ult on enemy rocket and getting another one. Not to mention when Loki copies someone, unlike Echo in OW, he instantly gets their ult

At least it despawns after ressing one person. Not like it has to be killed and it won't heal or anything after it resses a person. Probably won't win a fight unless it resses a tank like groot, not like he should be near it anyways.

Most rockets will probably just get killed, revived in their own thing, then die again staggering their spawn.

Gonna be hard, this is the sort of games you can tell it's going to die soon, Overwatch 2 is a shit game but it basically has a monopoly over that type of genre honestly cause of how amazing Overwatch 1 was

I love how unique doctor strange’s kit is. He’s like a full on utility dps/support hybrid
He really is everything. His main role is vanguard which is tank, but he can totally do damage. No heal but he has that portal utility, very cool.
The portal is also like a real portal, most games do something like the Magik tp or symmetra tp, but you can see through Stranges and seamlessly jump through it; like from the Portal games. I haven't seen that in a multiplayer game before.
This, I thought this ability would be like symmetras 2.0 teleporter, but following the camera and picking a location for a portal, which is instantly linked to that place and let's you see through it is some high level, unique game design
@@marshalllee2 He's similar to Janus from Smite. He can place a teleport anywhere as his ult and he floats around the map.
@@coryv5679 nope. Janus shoots a global flying ball and creates "tunnels" on surface, so you can pass through walls with the created portals. Dr strange here picks a location somewhere mid air and links it with his current position creating an instant gateway without any surface

Im loving the game but, they really need a big balance HAHAHA some heroes are op af, and spiderman its clearly a fav almost 10 abilities,
But i love the fact the dev team really put effort on giving the "hero like" expirience, they really made the kits with all hero powers
ability count doesn't matter, what matters is how good the abilities are. A character can have 100 abilities but if they all suck or are useless then they are worse than a character with only 1 abilities that is godly strong.
No, it DOES matter. Each ability gives you a chance to succeed, they should all have the same amount. @@gummyboots
@@KohlKovet no they shouldn't, some abilities are stronger than another, for example Spider-Man doesn't even have 1 superior ability, they are all good only in a combination
No I don't think ability count matters too much. It really depends on how strong the hero is at base. Storm for example has aura so she doesn't need as many abilities as Spiderman.
It's all about power budget in heroes/champs. For example blitzcrank doesn't have the best ult but his hook is so good that it doesn't matter.
You can see this with a hero like Tracer. Her blink and rewind is all she needs. She doesn't need all the extra shit genji gets.
But yeah you usually see this with abilities that provide a huge boon. Think the only character that surprised me with having a lot of abilities is Dr. Strange lol
No one has played it yet AND it's going to be a closed alpha when we do. We can talk balance after a week, even then people won't have a good grasp on it.
When a game comes out everyone sucks at it, and ai mean everyone.were all gaming journalists for a bit (with decent aiming).
There's going to be doctor strangest that just do t use the portal, black panthers thay don't know how to get resets, lokis that don't know they can heal, rocket raccoons that put down the revive station just to die and respawn in it to die again.

punch, sonic clap and grab a car and throw it. Like he is the shield he is the big green target. You have to focus him.

These all look great...but one issue with the SFX and audio team is, all these moves don't feel "impactful" it's got the character animations but when the moves or attacks make contact its like it's getting hit by a bubble gun. The attacks hit the opponents like Chick-fil-A paper napkins. But otherwise, this is looking promising. Love the art style character choices for the roster. It's got a very "Pandart" kind of style. I love it

@SwimmingRobot they just need a sense of impact! Because the animations are great, and have potential. But don't feel "Crispy" or "chunky" yea know? Take Magiks sword attacks for example. Good animations, but I don't exactly feel the weight watching her sword swing around
@shhikens that satisfaction will hopefully be revised as the game gets more players and such. But otherwise, the attacks need weight, camera shake or shifts, vibrations, harder reactions from the characters. The abilities feel floaty and weightless
Actually really true, the sound designs could have a lot of weight to them. I know we can't keep comparing everything to Overwatch but I have to admit, the sound designs for their characters are so good, It's very "Heavy" and instantly recognizable. Take roadhogs hook or widowmakers shot. These all are SUPER recognizable and is very "loud". Here in this game the audio feels overall the same for most characters cause every sound effect is drastically toned down. Another big criticism is the actual attacks, everything feels too floaty like everyone is playing on zero gravity or something, Definitely needs more commitment when you do attacks, Magiks sword when I first saw it I thought it be a heavy commit sword that feels amazing to use but incredibly heavy but it dosen't even feel like you're holding a big chuck of a sword. Overall a lot of clear issues which I hope get's fixed before the final game, otherwise sadly I can see this game hyping up for about a month before it kills it's player base drastically
Character designs and art direction looks nice. Not sure about some of the character movements and animations, though.
I actually like how the heros look and work. They have a lot of variety when it comes to abilities so they’re not stuck to one playstyle. Not to mention the team passives are actually a cool idea.
Wishlist : captain america, thor, hawkeye, black widow, wolverine, cyclops, jean grey, nightcrawler, rogue, gambit, quicksilver, ghost rider, and the whole fantastic four

These abilities are way more complicated than I thought they would be. And no ultimates?! I wouldn't expect Marvel to try new things like this - they tend to try and keep it kid-easy but this actually looks like a fully cooked game that's actually strategically not like the others. Very intriguing!
ultimate is Q like in overwatch. in league of legends, its R, in valorant its X. those are the games it's mostly mimicking.

I feel like Punisher and Rocket are gonna be the meta pairing across the board. Their normal attack damage is very strong while Rocket is able to provide insane support and their team-up ability will also make Punisher even more menacing. And then you start pairing those two alongside a team of other strong defense/support heroes like Groot and Luna...

Not a fan of how team-up abilities are bound to specific characters, it really restricts team building for no reason.
Why can't anyone use Magik's portal? Why can't Hulk's gamma boost everyone?
There could even be restrictions, just not to only 1 or 2 characters. Rocket could be "climb onto any tank" or "climb onto any big bodied hero" if you want flavor.
I agree, I think it's a bit too restrictive which might inhibit team building and interactions, although the bonuses and balancing of these team-ups are also questionable. I don't really see a lot of these being particularly useful or impactful besides Punisher and Rocket's and Loki and Hela's (all of whom seem like they're going to be the best heroes in the game anyways...).

This gameplay is from Twitter from a dataminer they stated they have not yet gotten the rest.
It’s actually crazy how much we are unintentionally reminded of what James Gunn did for Marvel. He took characters that not many knew and made them household names. It is pretty wild that 3 of the starting roster spots are characters that he helped bring to the spotlight.

The sound effects are kind of weird to me, speaking of normal attack for some characters particularly. But the visuals are amazing, it has its own style that stand out from other games.
I'm liking how strong the art direction is so far! I'd love an expanded roster though, it's crazy that Cap and Thor aren't here, and I NEED to see some villains in this artstyle

ngl, kinda disappointed by Magik. One of the strongest mutants alive, taught magic by Doctor Strange and Storm (who she doesn't have team up abilities with, but she does with Black Panther for some reason, who has almost zero connection to her in the comics), and the literal queen of Limbo. All of that, and most of her abilities are just "swing sword". Kinda feels like a missed opportunity when so many of the characters have such interesting and varied toolkits.
If youre worried about balance (weird its a closed alpha), dont be too hung up on it, not only is it super early but we are all going to be terrible at the game. A year after release the gameplay present in this closed alpha will be laughed at. Just like every multiplayer game its going to take a bit for the game to get its own version of balance. What I can say right now is its very unique and has an extremely strong foundation. Thats all you need from a game thats in closed alpha, infact most alphas dont even have that yet (trust me ive been playing a lot of other alphas).
To a little tripe down memory lane from a beta ow1 to oresent ow2 player. Remember Mercy in overwatch used to be able to ress all 5 teammates through walls, hanzo had scatter arrow that was a low cooldown and one shot all tanks, Genji had bleed on his shift, torb could have 500 hp and a 800 hp level 3 turret, and so so so much more. All that combined with no rile queue and everyone being way worse than they are now lead to even weirder balance decisions, reworks, and so on. Read reddit posts from the start of overwatch and youll see what I mean. I genuinely think ow2 is the best overwatch has been, if you didnt play during the double shield meta, or no hero limit, or no role queue, you dont know how bad it was. But at the sametime I still enjoyed it, and the same will be the case for Marvel Rivals, it might be a mess of balance right now, but im just going to focus on enjoying it and getting good/improving.

This game looks very good, I think it will surpass Overwatch 2, it has cell-shading to represent marvel comics, cool character designs, every character in MR has more abilities than OW2 characters, bigger character roster and has a new mechanic in hero-shooter genre like team-up abilities and map destruction
that punishier "ult" should be for War Machine, if they ever put him in the game(i bet he is going to be an Ironman skin)

@@Diceux yeah having 2 abilities that are almost identical is pretty lame - almost feels like they should be merged into 1 ability and slightly nerfed and give her another ability. Also her primary fire is visually lacking. Would’ve preferred lightning as her primary fire and wind as secondary.

@@slymeking198 I’m not in the alpha so unfortunately I’m not sure if I’ll get a survey. But if I do get a survey I will definitely give my feedback on storm - I think her powers have so much diversity that they didn’t really capture in her move set - I mean her not having a hailstorm (like the one in MvC3) is crazy. Pretty satisfied with the other heroes tho.

As someone who has played around 5 different shooter games that involve different characters and/or abilities, my brain just kept going “oh it’s like [character]!” The entire time and I think it’s a problem
Storm being a DPS and Support hybrid is giving me Symmetra... I hope they can make her work.
I think she'll be safe, she has a speed boost and damage boost and a sort of escape ult similar to doomfits but better offensively. They'd have to gut her numbers to ruin her, and I wouldn't worry about something like that in a closed alpha.
more like Lucio than Symmetra. just with dmg boost instead of heals.
