This is the most important martial arts video. The boxing vs bjj debate does not address the nuance Coach addresses here; boxing better prepares one to raise their level of violence and aggression than bjj, it’s the mental aspect. I know coach doesn’t like Jordan Peterson, but JP once said ‘People mistake meekness for virtue.’ Too many martial artists do not train the ‘violence’ aspect. Sayf Carmen: (sic) ‘if someone hits me it doesn’t matter what else I have done or trained previously. At that point it is not physical it is mental.’
I remembered your video about Roy Jones and how fighters get old over night and I've been studying great older fighters ever since. Started using the cross guard because it shuts down straight and looping punches and lets me stand in front of faster guys, you can cover head and body at the same time and I don't have to turn away exposing my kidneys back or legs, I've seen Okinawan Karate guys blocking kicks with it, it injures their hands and feet on your elbows, I can block the inside of their leg with my bottom arm to stop takedowns if it's MMA, and it's hard or almost impossible for them to grab or hold me behind the head and they have to work harder to clinch up. Now you just taught me that it doesn't matter lol The truth hurts lol
Your teaching is real. I hope I get to attend your training sessions in-person someday. I understand your point with this video, but I would still like to ask, technique wise, if you think Krav Maga is practical for self-defense?
Really interesting talk. I remember my Dad who boxed when he was younger discussing self-defense with me when I did high school wrestling, and him telling me it was good but only for anyone under 40. And the mental thing has always made me nervous, I'm ok with fighting but have always been worried that I'd just freeze if I ever got in a real self-defense situation Also, I'd be interested on hearing your thoughts on Andrew Tate Especially Martial Arts wise. Like you he is critical of BJJ (and gets a lot of hate for it) but also seems to treat boxing like the end all be all. Also on his political and life advise or persona, is he a good role model for young men?
You can work on "freezing" through going to tournaments and competing. This will also give you a sense of how to escalate your level of violence faster.
Greetings from Greece. Always real with your advice coach! Do you think that raising your level of force fast depends on your personality only or can you train it with some method? Thank you for your time. Stay safe!
I have been telling people for years. That any form of hand to hand combat. Is overrated for the streets. If anyone doing martial arts wants to up their game. Don't get better with nunchucks and throwing stars. Learn how to use improvise weapons. Example I live by Chicago and we can't even legally carry pocket knife. But you can carry a box cutter or screwdriver. I use them for my job. Officer! Be safe out there. There's some pointers on how to stay strapped. And no that not all improvised weapons work the same.
I have no argument with that logic. Great lesson.
Some one is going to say the flying arm bar is the number one skill you need to master.

Probably your most important video ever. This is a throwback to your older videos but can not be emphasized enough.

Real world combat is tactical by nature
