    Thanks Andrew for posting these videos. These are very helpful and motivating to see some one doing great after the surgery. I will be having my surgery in 4 days and I am looking forward to it. If possible please post a recent video. Thanks

      How are you doing 4 months post op? I'm now 2 years post op and am doing okay. I've learned that I will always have to maintain my core strength to keep a healthy back. The times I start to slack is when I begin to feel some pain creep. We gotta stay on top of it!

    Thanks for sharing. I am just shy of a 5 month post op of laminectomy discectomy of the L5 S1. I am in terrible pain still. I felt way better just hours after surgery than I do now. I pray to find relief.

      Tee Carney how are you doing now? Has the pain improved?

    Thanks, Rishi! Good luck with your treatment. Be patient in the recovery and you'll be back at it before you know it.

      +Ana H Yes, I can bend over now. Slowly, but surely, and pain free. I was asked to wait 6 to 7 weeks before doing physical therapy. Because I'm not a doctor or physical therapist, I can't really suggest anything specific for you. I can tell you that we worked on my core strength a lot (various leg lifts) as well as my hips and legs using rubber restraint bands. I wish you the best in your recovery. Be patient and stick to it!

    Thanks for the video(s). I head in for my first microdiscectomy next week. Been battling an L5 S1 bulge for a year. Conservative treatments are not working, so it's time. I'm going to document my surgery as well on youtube. These videos help a ton. Best of luck with your continued recovery.

      I'm sorry to hear you've been suffering for a while. It sounds like you did everything you could w/o surgery. I know that feeling. I'm confident the surgery will help and the physical therapy that follows will be crucial. Stay positive and steadfast. Best of luck to you!

    Thanks for sharing this Andrew. Extremely great knowing you're recovering well. I'm 24 possiblyneed of surgery. I was wondering how are you feeling now? Any pain? What activities hae you done? Play any sports or anything? Its been 1.5 years for you now. Or if you could post another video. This is really helpful thanks.

      +Gary Banh I'm glad you're getting something out of the videos. I'm a year and a half out and currently feel the best I've felt in years. It took patience about about 5 months ago, I started doing yoga and focusing heavily on my core strength. I credit those two things for a lot of my recovery. I've also lost about 20 pounds as a result, so that doesn't hurt either. :) If you're in pain and know it's not getting better, I fully support the surgery. Just know that it will take time to recover. Patience is everything. I felt frustration after 10-12 months but something clicked around the 14-15 month point and I noticed a great deal of improvement.

    Thanks for sharing your story , I'm 5 days post op. I have no patience so I am trying to check myself. I am walking well but have leg weakness. Also my right leg is weak and foot gets numb off/on. Hopefully I can sit sometime soon, that's what I'm having trouble with at this point!!

    • @AndrewVolk82
      @AndrewVolk82  7 років тому

      Thank you for watching, I hope it's helped. Sitting will take some time, so just double down on patience if you can. You're a week out now and it sounds like you were very much in the same spot as I was. Posture. Patients. And, eventually, physical therapy. You'll start to slowly improve!

      Hey! Sorry to hear about the leg weakness. Was that already a problem pre-surgery? Did it go away quickly? Thanks!

      Hi Cameron -- I'm now just over 2 years post surgery. Ever so often, I'll have some tingling in my left foot. That is about it though.

    Hey bud - damn, you're taking 2 ibu per day for 6 months?? are you seeing any stomach/liver/heart problems? A main reason I'm going for the surgery is because I don't want to damage all my organs with these drugs waiting for it to *maybe* heal - it's been 8 mo of pain now, getting the surgery next week.

      Martin Sędek although that period over, I did not have any negative effects from it.

      @@AndrewVolk82 That's great to hear - so you're like four years out from this thing, how are you doing?? Are you glad you got it done? Thanks for sharing and helping people!!

    • @AndrewVolk82

      Martin Sędek for me, it was the only option so I’m definitely glad I went through with the surgery. My life is 95% back to what it was before. I’m still reserved when it comes to physical sports but that’s more due to being 36 now - not 24, haha. I’m a new dad and never have issues carrying my little girl around. Life is good.

      @@AndrewVolk82 Nice! - i'm expecting my first little girl in June too, which is why I kind of need to do this now. If you don't mind one last question, it seems from all these videos that the major side effect from this surgery is the leg numbness. Did you have this, was it a significant issue, and did it go away? Thanks!

    • @AndrewVolk82
      @AndrewVolk82  5 років тому +1

      Martin Sędek the leg/foot numbness started to fade around 18 - 20 months for me. The nerves need time (and patience). Make sure to give yourself as much time as you need. Congratulations on the little girl!

    Hello Andrew. My name is Brian and I had the Microdiscectomy (L4-5) about 4 months ago. I'm still in pain, both back and sciatica. When did you start to feel better? I'm very frustrated and depressed now b/c surgery for me seems a failure. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @AndrewVolk82
      @AndrewVolk82  7 років тому

      Hi Brian -- how are you feeling now? I'll be honest, there were days even a year after surgery where it was extremely painful still. Are you maintaining your core strength and doing stretches to help with flexibility?

    • @briankim75
      @briankim75 7 років тому

      I'm about 10 months out from Microdiscectomy and still in pain as though I never had surgery. I'm still taking pain killers that gets me through the day. I've done PT and couple rounds of epidural injections which seems to do nothing. Maybe only thing is the only medicine. I may try Facet joint injections or even Stem cell injections. I'm trying to avoid the fusion at all cost. If you have any pointers for me, let me know. thanks and good luck

      Through my struggles, the only thing I've been able to do to help is stay consistent with my physical therapy & core strengthening.
