Hi, I am the Aztec's historian. It is currently in limbo. Minor corrections: 1. Route 66 was officially re-routed off of Foothill in Monrovia in 1935...although few people realized that Route 66 remained split in 1931-32 (in hopes that businesses would benefit from the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles). 2. Santa Anita Park opened in 1934 after Prohibition ended. Oddly enough, the Aztec Hotel was already closed in 1934. It remained closed for a few more years before someone reopened it for the racing crowd. You are correct in saying that the Aztec profited from Santa Anita Park...until the U.S. entered WWII and Santa Anita Park became a Japanese Detainment Camp. 3. Yes, the basement likely housed a speakeasy around 1931-32. Gambling could have taken place there following Prohibition as well. 4. The "Razzle Dazzle" story is an alternative legend involving the death of a woman by hitting her head on a steam radiator in Room 120. Lol. Both are urban legends and the steam radiator has been removed. The Razzle Dazzle story was invented by an Azusa psychic ...after the dead newlywed urban legend had already appeared. 5. While the current owners don't like discussing the Aztec's haunted rep, I can personally vouch that strange things happen there. Not a whole lot, but enough to convince me that its haunted rep (which started in the 1950s) has merit. 6. Family members of the current owners live there. They also have a dog that LOVES to bark. 7. Nobody knows the fate of the Aztec. However, most agree that the bar will reopen at some point to keep its liquor licenses. 8. Not all of the things you pointed out are original to 1925. Hope to see you on the inside someday soon. Maybe we can celebrate its centennial in Aug-Sept 2025.

Wow! Thanks for all the detailed information. So amazing! 🙌🏻 so many cool/interesting places to visit at every turn. Yes, some stuff I pulled from here and there on the internet which we both know is 100% accurate 100% of the time! I have been inside some years ago, it reminds me of a perfect setting for a Twilight Zone episode. So someone is probably living on property, right? And yes, it would be great to celebrate its 100 with ya! Thanks again
