This video explains how I created a tool bit holder that puts the cutting edge of the tool bit behind the pivot point of the clapper and holds a square tool bit as opposed to a round tool bit.
Further testing showed I was able to make much deeper cuts without any chance of digging in. Thanks Walter Maisey for your suggestions on the new tool holder and pivot point location.

Thank You. Regards: Larry
that all looks pretty good. bit topical around here. a slot at 60 deg from vertical might be good, for vertical cuts?
Emma: Thanks for making the comment. I finally feel that I'm beginning to make a little progress on this project, but it seems that I still have a long way to go before I get things figured out. Regards: Larry
Nice project! The shaper itself, is it hand made or commercial made? It is beautiful !!
Old Dog: It's totally shop built from photos found online. It's 0.8 scale of the original because of my equipment limitations. Still 80% can make an adequate size cut and can be useful. Build progress photos are available via the link above in the video description. Regards: Larry
