In reality:
Chaff- to avoid radar guided missiles
Flares- to avoid heat seeking missiles
Smoke- to avoid laser guided weapons (for ground vehicles only)
On gta there are just heat seeking missles but chaffs blocks the lock on, also need very good reflexes because homing launcher can shoot himing missles only when the square becomes red, the veichles missles are faster in lock on and the missles are homing since the square it's green

In reality but easy to implement. Also the chaff system should kill the guy because it's basically shrapnel.

@@DinnyBo On what? Planes? Helicopters? Lol reactive armor is for tanks. You would need so much for it to even be effective that you would hardly be able to get off the ground if at all. There's a reason why only 60+ ton tanks use it lol.

Tip when using chaff: if you know someone is trying to hit you with a lock on, listen for the initial three beeps that give you a warning that you are starting to be locked on, but not fully. If you hit the countermeasures just as when you hear it, it will give you a better chance of preventing a missle from tracking you

While flares seem initially useful, they won't save you from missile spam (2:25). Chaff requires timing skill to use, but is very effective in giving you a valuable window to kill the enemy before they kill you.
None will help you with spam

EXCELLENT TEST!!!! I have asked this question and have done quite a bit of thinking on the subject. Before I watch the video I would place bets on the chaff, From what I’ve seen in real life scenarios, chaff usually gives the best protection for airborne craft But I’m looking forward to seeing what works the best!!! Chaff is best against a deluxo or mk2, you can escape in that 6 seconds. But flares can take out one missile but if some one shots you 5 missiles you will die with flares.
If youre on plane just shoot flares then go in circle
@@kixakii436 Yea flares are actually OP idk why everyone uses Chaff, if you get locked and the rocket gets shot or if they shoot and then lock your fucked but flares can actually save you from multiple rockets if used properly.

Good job giving the Red Sparrows some attention. I've been watching them for months and they deserve this.
Smoke is useful in dogfights. If you circle around the enamy with smoke on. It's going to make it very hard to find out your exact position. It even said to disorient the enamy. You need to block lock-in missiles or re-guide them if they cant make out your position

Why the hell do people say chaff sucks. Flares are so useless. If you have a mk2, akula,hunter,sea sparrow, anything that shoots more than 1 missle inn3 seconds makes flares useless

Chaff is best for MK2 encounters if you know how to use it.
Flares: Defensive Countermeasure
Chaff: Offensive Countermeasure
Smoke: Useless Countermeasure

I using chaff on my oppressor for attacking other oppressors, it's very useful! You can activate the chaff beyond the lock-on distance of the enemy oppressor (or the other enemy target) and boost to get closer.
Chaff for slow & heavily armored aircrafts on the offensive, like the Avenger & Hunter, otherwise flares for general defense against unexpected missile attacks. Smoke for aerial displays.
So pretty much
Chaff: for very quick 1v1 battles (ex. Oppressor vs Oppressor)
Flare: for more long period or defenseless vehicles
Smoke: For fun and to show peace

Be cool if they made an option for the smoke countermeasure to be a gas weapon you could drop on the ground, like a constant stream over an area instead of just gas bombs
or like gas bombs that expand over time
That’s literally just the bomb bay
Flairs work against heat seeking missiles, chaff works against laser painting because it gives a false target for IR light to bounce off of, Smoke combines both by prospect of usually being a separate heat source, and it helps disrupt IR light.
Chaff is used for radar guided missiles.

Chaff : for stopping the lock on
Flare : hot fire balls that will trick the missile thinking the fire balls are the targeted vehicles
the smoke only useful when close in between air plane, flying with a smoke will make it easier for other players to detect your vehicle and target you manually.

If you are fighting a jet in a hunter, the smoke counter measure could be kinda useful cuz the jets have terrible homing missiles but lethal cannons

It works against planes with explosive cannons. It creates a smoke screen that makes it harder to aim properly.

Just a heads up, no countermeasure will affect an rpg. Chaff pure expands your heat signature hence why it won't redirect an incoming missile and flare's replicate your heat signature causing homing (heat seaking) missiles to redirect into one of the flare's (typically the closest one to you).
So whenever using flare's, don't think you're safe make sure to bank down to the left or right.
The smoke... I'm guessing it's sole purpose was to deteriorate people chasing you down by shoving a think cloud of smoke in their face and that's about it. Pointless really as everyone that follows you are 9 times out of 10 firing heat seekers at you.
In game, for no reason, missiles fired out of vehicles in non homing mode, are disrupted by the player flare gun, and will follow the flare just like it is a homing rocket

Flares are useless because nobody is gonna shot you just one missile at the time, they are gonna spawn the button to destroy you fast as possible. Just use chaff before they lock on to you

Fun fact: when you're in a vehicle that fires missiles, you often have two missile options - homing or non homing - firing a homing missile can be deflected by using flares regardless if it locked on or not but firing non homing missiles can't be deflected no matter what (unless they dodge them).
Big brain time: Fastest way to avoid getting hit is moving out of the way.
The problem with the flares is that sometimes it looks like the rocket hits the flare and explodes and next thing you know is a random Explosion at your Heli/jet because rockstar games is to lazy to patch the bugs

IRL chaff only works against radar guided missiles and flares are only effective against IR missile
Although to evade a missile you need to pull some high energy high G maneuver on close range
On medium to long range you need to maneuver away from the incoming missile (usually perpendicular to it) to bleed off the missile's speed after its rocket motor runs out

The issue with chaff is that as soon as someone locks onto you they can shoot you. The homing launcher is the only one where you have to wait for it to lock on for it to work
The chaff maybe do something when you move. Maybe it stop the lock of the missile after fired so the missile just goes straight. And for the smoke it maybe stop de lock-on too but just if you’re very good hidden behind. For flares the use is really good while moving during a fight. (sorry for bad english)

Smoke is actually really good for when someone is trying to hit you with the explosive canon because your harder to see and hit. But I reccomend chaff and flare.
By the time you hear the lock on the rocket is already after you to flars are best because if u can't out fly a rocket without it for 3 seconds should not be in the air

Every time i am about to engage an enemy mk2 i use chaff before he can spot me and it won't be able to lock any missiles, meanwhile if he doesn't have chaff asswell, he will get blasted with tons of missiles.
But chaff must be used beforw he locks you, rhat way you prevent him from locking otherwise the missile will still go at you.
It’s also good against MKIIs. Just activate it just before you try to dive bomb it.
Chaff is only used so nobody can lock onto you, it doesnt work once some has shot a locked on rocket, for that you have flares, to make the rocket change targets
Smoke plus that super fast tiny stunt plane equals great fun!

Dont forget passengers can fire flares out of your vehicls in most cases and it functions exactly like tbe upgrade countermeasure. So if you have a friend get them to spam their hand flare and you can spam the chaff

The smoke is useful mostly in dog fights when you are getting chased down, it’s used to disorientate pilots and block their view
But it wont block their targetting, so they'll still know where you are.
Smoke is used to obstruct lock-on from homing missiles from the back. Shooting it from the front with smoke on its back is the same as shooting it without smoke countermeasures.

Missiles aren’t living things, they don’t have eyes smoke won’t confuse them.
I thought when you deployed Flares that it would burn the player like a flair gun would. Also fun tip if you can shoot out of the plane/ helicopter with a flare gun it would actually defect the lock on rocket.
Counter measures should for sure be better like deploying automatically..and maybe having more of them with some time between refreshing. What would be tight too is if they came out with a aircraft carrier you can buy and store all you planes and help copter on like a mobile hanger
