Bcs in reality, you love someone without knowing the real reason. Dal mi & do san’s relationship is so relatable. Do san’s may not be her first love, but that’s life. In the end you’ll meet & love new person bcs you both just clicked.
I can't imagine any other woman portraying Dalmi perfectly other than Suzy. Same with Nam Joo-hyuk as Nam Dosan. They are both good actors with amazing visuals. I also felt their chemistry. They are like real lovers sometimes.
Look at Dosan eyes. Thoes eyes delivery evrything. Gentleness when calling out her name “Dalmi yah”. A little ciriousity and worry when asking her "why do you like me?” Sencerity when saying "I didnt write the letter. I lied to you. I hurt you". wait and attention and when she ansering his question. After hearing the words “ it’s you” those eyes were moving and touched, almost cried because he realize how she love him, It’s just because of himseft. Nam Joo Hyuk, with his eyes expressing make Dosan so real and gentle. His acting is not “too much”. It’s just simply accurate and fullfiled the role. That why I especially love Dosan by Joo Hyuk.
Very unique drama and concept, nobody was overly cutesy, everyone was an adult, nobody stopped working just because they’re in love, nobody gave up because their heart was broken, very practical but a little romance on the way

I love their acting here! Dalmi's longing eyes for his embrace and Dosan's passionate gaze for her lips. They really missed each other and as a watcher, I really felt that through the screen. The actors are doing an amazing job! Their acting skills have really matured and improved!
I don't understand why people can't accept a male lead who's just like us. All thr people hating on Dosan for being so immature, just one question - are y'all so stable and mature in your life? Haven't you been through that phase of life when nothing in life is working for you, your parents don't understand you, you're emotionally frustrated, vulnerable but then suddenly someone comes into your life who understands you, loves you for the way you are. It's the first time you've felt this way. You both like each other so genuinely. You both complement each other, grow up together to become a better person you finally find happiness in your long frustrating life. For having a childhood where he wasn't allowed to even think about HIS dream, Dosan finally figured out what his dream was - Achieving success together with Samsan Tech and Dalmi. Their love for each other was so pure that I couldn't even think it without DoDal being together at the end. The message behind this drama - FOLLOW YOUR DREAM. don't give up, don't be afraid to try, SAILING OFF WITHOUT A MAP isn't always bad, no matter what the result will be like, The experience will always be beautiful, you won't regret it, and you'll learn something. This! And some people are invalidating Dosan’s struggles just because some people had it worse (like what?). Sadly some are just not open enough to view his perspective and I love that his character is realistic. Dosan and Dalmi are a match when it comes to handling their views in life. I love how they have each other’s back while reaching their dreams together. They are surely destined for each other.
The fact that people hate Do San as the lead goes on to prove the fact that his character is realistic and relatable to us. People usually like a strong and hero like character, but Do San, even though he is genius in his own right, made mistakes, failed a lot of times as well. Team Dosan forever ❤️
No people don’t like him because he cheated and took what was not his since he was young, he treats his parents very badly in a drama that suppose to be about family, he use violence agains people. If it was in real life, he would have been arrested after hitting his mentor, but ya in drama land. There is no retribution for that. I could go in really. He was not intentionally cheat, most people said it was an opportunity, yet his heart torturing him that long.. he was so lost for so long solely because that event. That bright and genius yet so lost and have no real dream, isnt that beautiful character? The only thing he cannot let go is Dalmi, but at the end of the day he overcome his stupidity (which torturing him so long), take a grip on his dream and work hard for it, he even confessed to Jipyeong that he will love Dalmi forever dispite of whether Dalmi love him back. He decided to face the love himself, without the letters that previously "handed-over" to him by Jipyeong, without money tree. Luckily Dalmi love him back as himself. I will not compare his character to Jipyeong, they grow in a completely different life, Jipyeong so mature, but even seeing the whole episodes I cannot see how she loves Dalmi, I cannot found the reason or any string both can share. They have shared letters, but nothing in the letters were valuable for Jipyeong. He was such a nice character towards everybody. His words so straight but telling people the truth and somehow encourage people to go on. Jipyeong does that to everybody he encounter. He helped Dalmi from the beginning because Holmoeni asked him to. I cannot see that he attached his feeling towards Dalmi. He is a strong man, build his own success life from scratch. If he love Dalmi, he would long ago take action towards his feeling. Dalmi and Jipyeong did not sing the same tune. Taken from the letters, he doesnt even know the key of what Dalmi says to him. He forget what he want on his birthday. Jipyeong said to Dosan the key word in a letter is "rainbow at the end of journey" but actually Dalmi's key word is "sail without map". In the other hand the old lost Dosan understand "sail without a map" easily on the rooftop, because he was lost and was sailing without a map, but no passion nor companion on his journey. Dalmi's letter and words on rooftop changed him, put him back on his path. Dalmi which was also lost (because she was only focused on how she will win over her sister), found a new path in Dosan's. They grow together, which make this story great. Nobody is perfect, and this drama adopt that. But it does teach us to forgive our past and fight for our dream, just like Dosan and Dalmi did. Jipyeong is like an angel guiding and help shapes us along the way, but we have to do it ourselves. This drama is so deep and beautiful
I cant get enough how soft spoken Dosan is to Dalmi (and everyone). He really has good nature. Good job parents. I love Dalmi’s answer. For someone who has insecurities like Dosan, this is the answer that he needed to hear. So gonna miss Dodal. Best chemistry couple. Great job Suzy and Nam Joohyuk.
Af first when I watched this I thought this was really too cliché but when I understood that true love doesn’t have to be explained, I appreciated this scene more and more.
My heart went out for awhile when Dalmi can't answer DoSan's question but my heart went longer when Dalmi said that it doesn't need a reason to love someone. That's just so pure.

I love the way he developed. His logical mind became more open to taking leaps of faith. He did become more confident-- that's why he kept saying he would win the bid for the autonomous car. But after 3 years he still loved this girl who at first told him 3 reasons she liked him and only a physical trait of his was mentioned. He wanted to hear from her if the other 2 reasons had been replaced by something that was actually him/from him. I Loved how relatable his character was.
I love how at the beginning of the show dalmi had a million reasons why she liked the letter “nam do San” (aka jipyeong and halmeoni) but at the end when she finally experienced what real love is with the real nam do San she didn’t need to elaborate she just felt it and knew it, love really is like that those who have felt it know!! It isn’t a list of reasons it’s an experience that needs no explanations... dodal couple I will never forget you!!!

very well said! That is why I like this series too coz they had different goals and challenges that they were able to resolve at the end. Just wished there were more episodes to see their win at the bid, proposal, wedding, Nam and Seo family meeting, and Chul-San and Sa-ha scenes. But it is what it is and I still loved the series.

You are the reason. That's all". Call it cliche, but I think that's what true love is all about. Dosan had always felt inferior and not confident about himself, always felt like he was a disappointment, even at his parents' eyes. But Dalmi saw something special in him, and reaffirmed that despite his flaws and imperfections, she chose him and come to like him for being his own true self. Like Jipyeong said... "With those hands alone, you beat our memories". Dosan might try to fit into the "letter dosan" narrative but eventually, he could not. However, along the way while doing so, unconsciously, he was also being himself, doing his best in helping and supporting Dalmi in many ways... Just like his Math Olympiad tests... the one question he got lucky thanks to the wind... he overlooked the fact that he answered all the other questions himself. Everything comes in full circle. I LOVE IT. Also also also... the first part before this whole conversation even happened.. when dalmi talked about finding his post-it note... and how dosan said the chance is 0.0002% (or sth can't rmbr exactly lol)... referencing the chance of someone meeting his/her other half. The chance is small, but there chance is there. Dosan knew he has met the one... and that's why he grabbed his post-it note and gave it to her, because to him, that chance happened and it's right in front of him. :') brb back to crying

Their love was pure, their chemistry is beyond amazing, how they look at each other and how he carefully held her while kissing everything was perfect. I really want to see these two in another project please. I never thought of them together but now that I have seen it they really match well and they are both good actors ❤️
Can I just mention how much I love Do-san's expression to Dal-mi's answer of telling him that she loves him for himself? How touched he looked after hearing those words that he wanted to cry out of happiness? All this time Do-san didn't have a lot of confidence for himself and lived to be what his own parents wanted him to be. I can imagine being in his shoes to hear the one you love love you for being you.
People mostly like the second lead than main lead because he's always honest with his feelings for FL but here the case is opposite and I must say close to reality. Nam dosan's character was so relatable tbh. I loved han jipyeong and my heart hurts for him but he realised his feelings late. Startup will always remain in my heart.

HJP wasn't honest with his feelings. And he also admitted that. He had all those years to look for Dal mi but he didn't. Even Grandma asked him and he denied it. I just don't understand why his fans kept dragging it that he deserved the girl. No he didn't. In my opinion.

NamJooHyuk portrayed Dosan character so perfectly...so late watching this drama but no regrets since I found another artist to get crazy about in this time of pandemic..and NamJooHyuk did not disappoint....I love his acting...and am now watching most of his past kdramas.
Love the acting here and this is someone who was not a Nam Joo Hyuk fan (already a Suzy fan). I love the expression in Dosan's eyes especially when he asked Dalmi why does she like him the 2nd time. That look of desperation and on the verge of crying because he's scared of the answer. ❤

I’ve been waiting for this clip since this aired! What a perfect answer to his question! That’s why this question is so hard for her Cos her love comes from intangible aspects. She loves him for his dosaness lol! She is always lovely and he is too but he just looked extra good in this scene! It’s like the soft and loving expression of his face transformed him once again and he looked so loving and vulnerable and gorgeous! Give this man his award already! What an actor he is! This is the most beautiful thing that ever existed. Without a doubt this is one of my favorite series of all time. I can't explain the joy I felt seeing it. The characters are amazing and they sure have a special place in my heart. And DODAL is the best couple and Suzy and Nam Joo hyuk, they become my favorite actors and one more thing is that, this is the first series that I watch twice at the same time, I saw most of the episodes twice, it didn't happen with other series, so that has to mean something ... and I just love it. ❤️❤️❤️😭
I actually liked this answer, very honest. Those people who state reasons like honesty, loyalty, etc. are wrong or fake. The same qualities can be in anyone but the way we feel towards someone doesn't require any reason love is unconditional

Tbh I never thought about them as a potential kdrama couple, but after watching StartUp I can say that they are literally one of the best! Their chemistry both on and off screen was on fire!! Watching them together does something to me!! It makes my heart flutter !! I truly love them together to the point where I ship them in real life as well!! Suzy and Joohyuk let's do more projects together and get married after that and stay forever with each other 🤧🤧😂😂

I'm so glad I deleted the app altogether and I was able to enjoy the rest of the 4 episodes with an open mind. At one point I even started to shift towards TeamJipyeong due to pressure but I realized there was no need to pit the characters against each other. It was a good drama overall and I applaud everyone for the good work done.

It’s an echo chamber of warped conjecture, and people intentionally choosing to ignore actual signs from the writers. It has turned into worship of a character and it’s scary. I heard of it but I don't get it. Like it was pretty obvious to me from Ep1 that Dodal was endgame, Jipyeong is super cute but from the beginning he was playing a 2ML type role. I guess maybe after like 12 years of watching kdramas I just have learned what to expect 😅 Also, just from a personal perspective, Jipyeong's morals are not all there. Dosan's instinct from the beginning was not to lie to her and after he lied, he kept trying to break free of it. Jipyeong kept coming up with reasons to keep lying instead. That's... Not really an attractive quality when you've been lied to in real life 🤦

Luckily I didn't read any comments about this k-drama while watching it. I was shocked to find out that many people were rooting for Ja-pyong + Dal-mi and even hated Do-san. I guess it has to do with the actor who played Ja-pyong, not with his character. Dal-mi never showed any romantic interest in him, even when she found out about the letters, it was obvious that she was confused about whether her feelings for Do-san were caused by the letters she thought were his, or whether she developed these feelings despite the letters. It never felt as she was chosing between him and Ja-pyong. Also, Ja-pyong was right on point when he said he didn't try to find her even 15 years after he read her letters, while Do-san ran to her the next moment he read them. It says a lot. Ja-pyong had numerous chances to show his interest in Dal-mi, but he did only after he brought her and Do-san together and saw them falling in love with the help of his and Dal-mi's history. It looks more like jealousy rather than love, he hardly remembered what those letters were about. I liked that he acknowledged that though and that he was honest about everything with Dal-mi and Do-san, it made his character very lovable. But Do-san is, without question, a true lead man in this story, even though he cried a lot and was dull-witted and even childish at times, he was always there for Dal-mi and was ready to do anything for their love. I really loved his character, he looked so true and real. I have to say, I never saw such real kisses in any k-drama, even between the actors who were known to be in relationship at the time of filming. I am really impressed with how real their kisses look. I loved loved loved every second of this k-drama!
Yes yes and yes! People talk about this show like there's a love triangle, but Dalmi is never interested in Jipyeong. There's not a triangle; there's a main couple and an emotionally stunted grouch who decides that he suddenly likes the girl but never has a real chance.
That was the most annoying thing for me. Jipyeong only started getting territorial/all up in his feels when Do-san was around. Didn't even attempt to pursue her during the boys' 3 year stay in the US and as soon as Do-san's around he goes back to playing sabotage.

Perfect couple ever. Perfect roles for te perfect actors. They made one of the best romance scenes and the hottest kissing scenes in kdrama history. They really shined and it shows by how many people demanding startup season 2 and to see this 2 in another project. Thank you for your hard work and for amazingly portraying your characters. Dosan was so unique and fresh lead to see I really liked him mindset he was my inspiration. Both actors are amazing and did a great performance in the age of 26 I mean they would have an amazing career for sure. The drama did really good, the peak ratings were for dodal moments, the drama is famous on Netflix it is one of the most searched on Netflix and suzy Nam joo hyuk and dodal are in naver top 10 searching topics. Startup ep 16 is trading everywhere. Y'all work hard but I will really miss you a lot.
The most realistic drama nowadays beside Itaewon Class. There’s nothing going forever smooth in real life. I love Dosan Dalmi, they’re struggling and learning together. Their chemistry is perfect
One of the best kdrama with a happy ending for all. The writer is mature and the plot is beyond lollipop romance story. Why Dosan is a winner:- 1. It takes two to start a romantic relationship. When DoDal set eyes on each other at first sight, the spark was there instantly in REAL person and Dalmi was totally impressed by Dosan. Dosan declared his love right from the beginning. He is always the first person there to give love and support when she needs it. Dal hasn’t changed her loving feelings towards Dosan even after knowing the truth and breakup. In fact all the early moves were initiated by Dalmi. Dalmi has her time and space to sort out her feelings and still chooses Dosan at the end because they are each other’s dream and together they make it come true. They share the same philosophy in life. Follow your dream and make it come true. 2. Dosan’s character. Dosan is a selfless, pure, kind, approachable, intelligent, well loved person with a warm heart. But he was also an insecure person because of his childhood experience. It wasn’t his fault that he saw the test last answer and won the prize. It could have been an wrong answer. But this win and some other similar experiences scarred him for years growing up feeling not good enough in his heart. He didn’t see his strength in himself like his parents, friends, Dalmi and even Alex did. Of course he worked hard and proved himself otherwise. He builds up his confidence over time. How does this affect his personality? He is humble and willing to listen. But he makes his own choices and decisions. He doesn’t hold grudge over others. He has compassion over others and treats others at equal ground instead of superior or being arrogant. He takes chances and any opportunities and run with them without fear of failure. He supports and empowers all the people around him. They trust and build each other up. He has the best relationships with everyone. He gives his best shot in everything he does. 3. Han’s failure. Grandma and Han should apologise in writing those fake letters which has cheated Dal’s first love and hurt her feelings afterwards. They realised their wrong doings and continued even though their intentions were good. How can Han claim his love from those fake letters? He didn’t have the courage to meet Dal once during or after the letter writing period. His procrastination makes him a loser and proven his love is not strong enough to win. He was lucky enough to have grandma’s help at the most difficult time. He considers rewards/return before taking action. He wouldn’t help Samson Tech if not because of Dal. As for the mentoring role he needs to learn how to empower people like the chairwoman or from the grandma, even Dosan’s parents instead of being a dream killer! People tend to think he deserves better but so as grandma and Dal’s father. Stop being Mr No is the first step for him. He does that and is able to move on living a happier life at end. Two wishes: - To have Dosan’s attitudes - To give Dosan more screen time. Too often his parts were cut short. 🌻🌻🌻

I can't see the reasons at all why Dalmi should have ended up with Jipyeong instead of Dosan when it was Dosan who stood by her side at all times right from the start, while Jipyeong didn't even look at her for fifteen years. If you really love that person, you should make him/her feel how much you love that person.... Just saying.....

Everything you said is true and I'd like to add a fourth point: people focus on her infatuation with the guy who wrote the letters as proof that she should have ended up with HJP. But from the moment she meets Dosan, this sort of vague crush turns into something real, and she never looks twice at HJP. Even when she finds out Dosan lied to her, even when she finds out the letter writer has been right there all this time, even when she and Dosan break up and live on different continents for three years, even when HJP gives her hints of her feelings, she never looks twice at the guy. She never shows the slightest inclination to date him or even get to know him better. She was infatuated with the letter writer but never in love, but she fell in love with Dosan pretty fast and never really stopped, even when she didn't know if she'd ever see him again.
First sensible writeup I read. Han dis not seek her out, how could he be the right one for her. Makes no sense. Han's love story is with the grandma. Those letters exist because the Grandma made him write them. He did not have parental guidance and the love the grandma showed him was pure and he would meet the right person overtime
That's how love actually works in real life, you could try to come up with all sorts of concrete explanations, but truth is, it's all about what the heart is telling you.
I can see them as like a real lovers. NJH's acting in Start up is superb and he nailed it as well as Suzy as Dalmi. Looking forward for their next project

This is the first k drama I watch because I stumbled upon it on Netflix I was bored af and as soon as I started watching it the concept was fire and super innovative especially with the sand box metaphor and all. What also made me love it more was how this guy played his character he was so real I forgot he was actually acting every scene he is hella good. Very good show.

Well I started watching this show because of Nam Joo hyuk and Suzy because I've seen their previous shows and was curious how will they look together. And look I'm served quite well for my expectations from these two. Loved the show, the cast, the concept. Thank you for this amazing piece of art.

Although many would've preferred Han ji Pyeong with Dalmi, I would say that Dosan's character is more suitable for Dalmi. In reality, not a lot of guys are as successful as Ji pyeong. A lot of people are struggling to find what they truly want and are working hard to achieve their dreams like Dosan. Its the journey from being a nobody to success. His character and love for Dalmi's is what won my heart through the season. He was willing to make anything happen for her even though its out of his reach. That's the kind of love I want too.
Dosan is not a typical strong Male lead character..he was like a lost soul without having confidence...but he improves himself and his feelings for dalmi was pure...that's why she came back to her...on the other hand dalmi loved him for how he protected her at the first time when they met..dalmi and dosan is a realistic couple Thanks to the actors joo hyuk and Suzy made it so real..
I feel like he's a lead character a lot like the lead in just between lovers - he was also just an ordinary guy who had a lot of flaws but there was genuine love there and that's like most people and I like how 2020 dramas are not having the typical ark of the lead guy or woman being perfect
the way Dosan says Dalmi....makes my heart flutter all the time i cried when the drama ended. by far maybe one of my faves of all time right now. i loved their chemistry. it was so natural. also i loved all of the core cast members as well. especially dosans best friends and the grandma. i was so sad to see it end. i really want them to do an extra episode that shows how their wedding was. it could be like a special episode. that would be amazing

I love their acting here! Dalmi's longing eyes for his embrace and Dosan's passionate gaze for her lips. They really missed each other and as a watcher, I really felt that through the screen. The actors are doing an amazing job! Their acting skills have really matured and improved!
I don't understand why people can't accept a male lead who's just like us. All thr people hating on Dosan for being so immature, just one question - are y'all so stable and mature in your life? Haven't you been through that phase of life when nothing in life is working for you, your parents don't understand you, you're emotionally frustrated, vulnerable but then suddenly someone comes into your life who understands you, loves you for the way you are. It's the first time you've felt this way. You both like each other so genuinely. You both complement each other, grow up together to become a better person you finally find happiness in your long frustrating life. For having a childhood where he wasn't allowed to even think about HIS dream, Dosan finally figured out what his dream was - Achieving success together with Samsan Tech and Dalmi. Their love for each other was so pure that I couldn't even think it without DoDal being together at the end.

He was not intentionally cheat, most people said it was an opportunity, yet his heart torturing him that long.. he was so lost for so long solely because that event. That bright and genius yet so lost and have no real dream, isnt that beautiful character? The only thing he cannot let go is Dalmi, but at the end of the day he overcome his stupidity (which torturing him so long), take a grip on his dream and work hard for it, he even confessed to Jipyeong that he will love Dalmi forever dispite of whether Dalmi love him back. He decided to face the love himself, without the letters that previously "handed-over" to him by Jipyeong, without money tree. Luckily Dalmi love him back as himself. I will not compare his character to Jipyeong, they grow in a completely different life, Jipyeong so mature, but even seeing the whole episodes I cannot see how she loves Dalmi, I cannot found the reason or any string both can share. They have shared letters, but nothing in the letters were valuable for Jipyeong. He was such a nice character towards everybody. His words so straight but telling people the truth and somehow encourage people to go on. Jipyeong does that to everybody he encounter. He helped Dalmi from the beginning because Holmoeni asked him to. I cannot see that he attached his feeling towards Dalmi. He is a strong man, build his own success life from scratch. If he love Dalmi, he would long ago take action towards his feeling. Dalmi and Jipyeong did not sing the same tune. Taken from the letters, he doesnt even know the key of what Dalmi says to him. He forget what he want on his birthday. Jipyeong said to Dosan the key word in a letter is "rainbow at the end of journey" but actually Dalmi's key word is "sail without map". In the other hand the old lost Dosan understand "sail without a map" easily on the rooftop, because he was lost and was sailing without a map, but no passion nor companion on his journey. Dalmi's letter and words on rooftop changed him, put him back on his path. Dalmi which was also lost (because she was only focused on how she will win over her sister), found a new path in Dosan's. They grow together, which make this story great. Nobody is perfect, and this drama adopt that. But it does teach us to forgive our past and fight for our dream, just like Dosan and Dalmi did. Jipyeong is like an angel guiding and help shapes us along the way, but we have to do it ourselves. This drama is so deep and beautiful

I love the way he developed. His logical mind became more open to taking leaps of faith. He did become more confident-- that's why he kept saying he would win the bid for the autonomous car. But after 3 years he still loved this girl who at first told him 3 reasons she liked him and only a physical trait of his was mentioned. He wanted to hear from her if the other 2 reasons had been replaced by something that was actually him/from him.
I Loved how relatable his character was.
I love how at the beginning of the show dalmi had a million reasons why she liked the letter “nam do San” (aka jipyeong and halmeoni) but at the end when she finally experienced what real love is with the real nam do San she didn’t need to elaborate she just felt it and knew it, love really is like that those who have felt it know!! It isn’t a list of reasons it’s an experience that needs no explanations... dodal couple I will never forget you!!!

Meanwhile, JP’s story is related to family - not lover; people still struggle with him finding a lover when he needs to fulfill his “debt” to grandma until she tells her to help others who are in need more of her.
In Jae’s struggle is family too. She came back to Seo clan in the end and succeeded on her own.
This drama is the closest to reality of the modern young adults. It’s not all about finding love and relationships ladies and gentlemen.

Edit: After crying over this scene again, just to add, I love how Dalmi's final answer to his question "Why do you like me?" is "Because it's you. You are the reason. That's all". Call it cliche, but I think that's what true love is all about. Dosan had always felt inferior and not confident about himself, always felt like he was a disappointment, even at his parents' eyes. But Dalmi saw something special in him, and reaffirmed that despite his flaws and imperfections, she chose him and come to like him for being his own true self. Like Jipyeong said... "With those hands alone, you beat our memories". Dosan might try to fit into the "letter dosan" narrative but eventually, he could not. However, along the way while doing so, unconsciously, he was also being himself, doing his best in helping and supporting Dalmi in many ways... Just like his Math Olympiad tests... the one question he got lucky thanks to the wind... he overlooked the fact that he answered all the other questions himself. Everything comes in full circle. I LOVE IT.
Also also also... the first part before this whole conversation even happened.. when dalmi talked about finding his post-it note... and how dosan said the chance is 0.0002% (or sth can't rmbr exactly lol)... referencing the chance of someone meeting his/her other half. The chance is small, but there chance is there. Dosan knew he has met the one... and that's why he grabbed his post-it note and gave it to her, because to him, that chance happened and it's right in front of him. :') brb back to crying

Can I just mention how much I love Do-san's expression to Dal-mi's answer of telling him that she loves him for himself? How touched he looked after hearing those words that he wanted to cry out of happiness? All this time Do-san didn't have a lot of confidence for himself and lived to be what his own parents wanted him to be. I can imagine being in his shoes to hear the one you love love you for being you.
People mostly like the second lead than main lead because he's always honest with his feelings for FL but here the case is opposite and I must say close to reality. Nam dosan's character was so relatable tbh. I loved han jipyeong and my heart hurts for him but he realised his feelings late. Startup will always remain in my heart.

HJP wasn't honest with his feelings. And he also admitted that. He had all those years to look for Dal mi but he didn't. Even Grandma asked him and he denied it. I just don't understand why his fans kept dragging it that he deserved the girl. No he didn't. In my opinion.

NamJooHyuk portrayed Dosan character so perfectly...so late watching this drama but no regrets since I found another artist to get crazy about in this time of pandemic..and NamJooHyuk did not disappoint....I love his acting...and am now watching most of his past kdramas.

This is the most beautiful thing that ever existed. Without a doubt this is one of my favorite series of all time. I can't explain the joy I felt seeing it. The characters are amazing and they sure have a special place in my heart. And DODAL is the best couple and Suzy and Nam Joo hyuk, they become my favorite actors and one more thing is that, this is the first series that I watch twice at the same time, I saw most of the episodes twice, it didn't happen with other series, so that has to mean something ... and I just love it. ❤️❤️❤️😭

People doesn't like Dosan's character because he's not the 'man' that other dramas showed them. Most of y'all think men can't cry and should be strong, when in real life they're like this. Let men be emotional, fragile, soft and emphatic. Let them cry. Those are normal.

Tbh I never thought about them as a potential kdrama couple, but after watching StartUp I can say that they are literally one of the best! Their chemistry both on and off screen was on fire!! Watching them together does something to me!! It makes my heart flutter !! I truly love them together to the point where I ship them in real life as well!! Suzy and Joohyuk let's do more projects together and get married after that and stay forever with each other 🤧🤧😂😂

It's weird seeing how everyone is so positive in the YT comment section regarding this drama, if you dip your toes into the Kdrama subreddit, you'd be surrounded by hate for this drama as a whole and Dosan's character... But as a fan of Nam Joo-hyuk, I've been rooting for Dosan since the beginning lol, it's nice knowing that there are people who actually like this drama, after lurking on the Kdrama subreddit I was starting to think I was the only one lol. Gonna miss the funny trio of Samsan tech 😭
That place is a toxic cesspool. (I was there before I started watching Swoon videos of this drama) I'm glad to find that the comments here are so positive, seeing people actually enjoying the drama as it is like I did.
@@arbiborje5701 omg. Me too.Those used to break my heart ngl till I contemplated dropping the show. I'm so glad I deleted the app altogether and I was able to enjoy the rest of the 4 episodes with an open mind. At one point I even started to shift towards TeamJipyeong due to pressure but I realized there was no need to pit the characters against each other. It was a good drama overall and I applaud everyone for the good work done.

I’m new to kdramas and was honestly grossed out by the thread, I’ve never seen anything like that before. It’s an echo chamber of warped conjecture, and people intentionally choosing to ignore actual signs from the writers. It has turned into worship of a character and it’s scary.
Watching these snippets made me realise again why I loved this show and our main leads. And then seeing so much love in the comments was refreshing. Honestly needed that 😂

I heard of it but I don't get it. Like it was pretty obvious to me from Ep1 that Dodal was endgame, Jipyeong is super cute but from the beginning he was playing a 2ML type role. I guess maybe after like 12 years of watching kdramas I just have learned what to expect 😅
Also, just from a personal perspective, Jipyeong's morals are not all there. Dosan's instinct from the beginning was not to lie to her and after he lied, he kept trying to break free of it. Jipyeong kept coming up with reasons to keep lying instead. That's... Not really an attractive quality when you've been lied to in real life 🤦
FOR REAL! This drama is literally so well-organized and the storyline is just 💯 It ain’t that basic lovey-dovey drama where we could see everywhere on the internet. We learn something. Definetely one of my favourite drama. ❤️

Luckily I didn't read any comments about this k-drama while watching it. I was shocked to find out that many people were rooting for Ja-pyong + Dal-mi and even hated Do-san. I guess it has to do with the actor who played Ja-pyong, not with his character. Dal-mi never showed any romantic interest in him, even when she found out about the letters, it was obvious that she was confused about whether her feelings for Do-san were caused by the letters she thought were his, or whether she developed these feelings despite the letters. It never felt as she was chosing between him and Ja-pyong. Also, Ja-pyong was right on point when he said he didn't try to find her even 15 years after he read her letters, while Do-san ran to her the next moment he read them. It says a lot. Ja-pyong had numerous chances to show his interest in Dal-mi, but he did only after he brought her and Do-san together and saw them falling in love with the help of his and Dal-mi's history. It looks more like jealousy rather than love, he hardly remembered what those letters were about. I liked that he acknowledged that though and that he was honest about everything with Dal-mi and Do-san, it made his character very lovable. But Do-san is, without question, a true lead man in this story, even though he cried a lot and was dull-witted and even childish at times, he was always there for Dal-mi and was ready to do anything for their love. I really loved his character, he looked so true and real. I have to say, I never saw such real kisses in any k-drama, even between the actors who were known to be in relationship at the time of filming. I am really impressed with how real their kisses look. I loved loved loved every second of this k-drama!
Yes yes and yes! People talk about this show like there's a love triangle, but Dalmi is never interested in Jipyeong. There's not a triangle; there's a main couple and an emotionally stunted grouch who decides that he suddenly likes the girl but never has a real chance.

That was the most annoying thing for me. Jipyeong only started getting territorial/all up in his feels when Do-san was around. Didn't even attempt to pursue her during the boys' 3 year stay in the US and as soon as Do-san's around he goes back to playing sabotage.

Perfect couple ever. Perfect roles for te perfect actors. They made one of the best romance scenes and the hottest kissing scenes in kdrama history. They really shined and it shows by how many people demanding startup season 2 and to see this 2 in another project. Thank you for your hard work and for amazingly portraying your characters. Dosan was so unique and fresh lead to see I really liked him mindset he was my inspiration. Both actors are amazing and did a great performance in the age of 26 I mean they would have an amazing career for sure. The drama did really good, the peak ratings were for dodal moments, the drama is famous on Netflix it is one of the most searched on Netflix and suzy Nam joo hyuk and dodal are in naver top 10 searching topics. Startup ep 16 is trading everywhere. Y'all work hard but I will really miss you a lot.

The most realistic drama nowadays beside Itaewon Class. There’s nothing going forever smooth in real life. I love Dosan Dalmi, they’re struggling and learning together. Their chemistry is perfect
One of the best kdrama with a happy ending for all. The writer is mature and the plot is beyond lollipop romance story.
Why Dosan is a winner:-
1. It takes two to start a romantic relationship. When DoDal set eyes on each other at first sight, the spark was there instantly in REAL person and Dalmi was totally impressed by Dosan. Dosan declared his love right from the beginning. He is always the first person there to give love and support when she needs it. Dal hasn’t changed her loving feelings towards Dosan even after knowing the truth and breakup. In fact all the early moves were initiated by Dalmi. Dalmi has her time and space to sort out her feelings and still chooses Dosan at the end because they are each other’s dream and together they make it come true. They share the same philosophy in life. Follow your dream and make it come true.
2. Dosan’s character. Dosan is a selfless, pure, kind, approachable, intelligent, well loved person with a warm heart. But he was also an insecure person because of his childhood experience. It wasn’t his fault that he saw the test last answer and won the prize. It could have been an wrong answer. But this win and some other similar experiences scarred him for years growing up feeling not good enough in his heart. He didn’t see his strength in himself like his parents, friends, Dalmi and even Alex did. Of course he worked hard and proved himself otherwise. He builds up his confidence over time. How does this affect his personality? He is humble and willing to listen. But he makes his own choices and decisions. He doesn’t hold grudge over others. He has compassion over others and treats others at equal ground instead of superior or being arrogant. He takes chances and any opportunities and run with them without fear of failure. He supports and empowers all the people around him. They trust and build each other up. He has the best relationships with everyone. He gives his best shot in everything he does.
3. Han’s failure. Grandma and Han should apologise in writing those fake letters which has cheated Dal’s first love and hurt her feelings afterwards. They realised their wrong doings and continued even though their intentions were good. How can Han claim his love from those fake letters? He didn’t have the courage to meet Dal once during or after the letter writing period. His procrastination makes him a loser and proven his love is not strong enough to win. He was lucky enough to have grandma’s help at the most difficult time. He considers rewards/return before taking action. He wouldn’t help Samson Tech if not because of Dal. As for the mentoring role he needs to learn how to empower people like the chairwoman or from the grandma, even Dosan’s parents instead of being a dream killer! People tend to think he deserves better but so as grandma and Dal’s father. Stop being Mr No is the first step for him. He does that and is able to move on living a happier life at end.
Two wishes:
- To have Dosan’s attitudes
- To give Dosan more screen time. Too often his parts were cut short.

I can't see the reasons at all why Dalmi should have ended up with Jipyeong instead of Dosan when it was Dosan who stood by her side at all times right from the start, while Jipyeong didn't even look at her for fifteen years. If you really love that person, you should make him/her feel how much you love that person.... Just saying.....

Everything you said is true and I'd like to add a fourth point: people focus on her infatuation with the guy who wrote the letters as proof that she should have ended up with HJP. But from the moment she meets Dosan, this sort of vague crush turns into something real, and she never looks twice at HJP. Even when she finds out Dosan lied to her, even when she finds out the letter writer has been right there all this time, even when she and Dosan break up and live on different continents for three years, even when HJP gives her hints of her feelings, she never looks twice at the guy. She never shows the slightest inclination to date him or even get to know him better. She was infatuated with the letter writer but never in love, but she fell in love with Dosan pretty fast and never really stopped, even when she didn't know if she'd ever see him again.
First sensible writeup I read. Han dis not seek her out, how could he be the right one for her. Makes no sense. Han's love story is with the grandma. Those letters exist because the Grandma made him write them. He did not have parental guidance and the love the grandma showed him was pure and he would meet the right person overtime
That's how love actually works in real life, you could try to come up with all sorts of concrete explanations, but truth is, it's all about what the heart is telling you.

This is the first k drama I watch because I stumbled upon it on Netflix I was bored af and as soon as I started watching it the concept was fire and super innovative especially with the sand box metaphor and all. What also made me love it more was how this guy played his character he was so real I forgot he was actually acting every scene he is hella good. Very good show.

Although many would've preferred Han ji Pyeong with Dalmi, I would say that Dosan's character is more suitable for Dalmi. In reality, not a lot of guys are as successful as Ji pyeong. A lot of people are struggling to find what they truly want and are working hard to achieve their dreams like Dosan. Its the journey from being a nobody to success. His character and love for Dalmi's is what won my heart through the season. He was willing to make anything happen for her even though its out of his reach. That's the kind of love I want too.
Their kissing scene is on another higher level. Their beautiful character and the perfect cinematography just make the scene more lovely

Dosan is not a typical strong Male lead character..he was like a lost soul without having confidence...but he improves himself and his feelings for dalmi was pure...that's why she came back to her...on the other hand dalmi loved him for how he protected her at the first time when they met..dalmi and dosan is a realistic couple
