Punching bass and redfish in the face -- seriously!

- Marsh Man Masson loves this time of year for a number of reasons, but not the least of which is the Mississippi River falls to its lowest levels of the year, and that sucks bass out of their secure hiding spots, and makes them very easy to catch along the roseau cane-lined passes, bayous and canals south of Venice, La.
The bass still try to hide, but they have to do it under hyacinths and matted hydrilla that's easily accessible to anglers.
Marsh Man and his fishing buddy Jeff Bruhl took the long haul to the area last week, and although fishing was a little slow by Venice standards, it was still way better than anything else available just about anywhere.
The anglers used heavy tungsten weights teamed with punch skirts and creature baits to punch through the vegetation and yank the bass back through it. They also ran into some redfish along the way.
It's an incredibly fun technique that really pays off at the mouth of the Mississippi.

Gary is a good friend of mine. We were great friends with Tony Fontenot from castin Cajun!
Pretty work, way to punch those bucket mouths 👊
Great video i remember when Jeff was in jr high and he fished the river with his cousin Ricky of course that was long ago lol.
I'll mention that to him next time I see him.
Cool i have not seen him in years. He lives up there by my mom and knows her.
I am down in Madisonville now but go up to Bruhl Rd atleast once a week. RB and Tom stll there. River has a few fish but not like when we were kids.
Redfish have been on FIRE this year in Louisiana. Almost every video we post have redfish in it!!!
Great channel. I’m from Metairie and all of my family is still there. My in laws are charter captains but they don’t fish from r bass. I just started bass fishing(fishing in general) this spring and I’m obsessed. If I were to get my in laws to bring me to Venice, where could I tell them to go so I could catch bass like this? They mostly fish port Sulphuric but I’m sure they know the area. Thanks for any recommendations. Great channel
There are tons of great areas out of Venice -- Camp Canal, Joseph's Bayou, Loomis Pass, Dennis Pass, Octave Pass, Delta Duck and too many others to name. Going at the right time is critical to success, however.
10 nice reds and a few trout yesterday out of Leeville but man it was HOT!!!
Yeah, this heat has been crazy. Looks like a front is coming next week. Better late than never!
Unbelievable fishery!!
It really is. It's a long drive down there, but so worth it.
great vid
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Are the bass as good to eat as the redfish?
Proline Sport Yes, extremely clean meat
Todd I’m loving your scruff
Ha! It comes and goes, depending on how much my wife will let me get away with.
Great vid... Throw em back. Ive never kept any bass.
No point in throwing them back. The area is incredibly dynamic, and the fish that are removed are quickly replaced. Venice is very close to its carrying capacity. Also, tropical storms and hurricanes regularly wipe out the bass at the mouth of the river. Better to make good use of them than to see them go belly up due to a saltwater surge.
I lived most of my life in NC catching redfish...now i guide bass fisherman in southern Florida......I loved this video...check out some of our bass fishing videos thanks
You are in my spot
Ha! I guess we were keeping it warm for you.
