I had a spinner on the Pete I drove before I retired and one day when they had a truck inspection on 52 street in Calgary the inspector told me he didn't like the spinner and would I remove it. I told him I have to back into some tight spots and OH&S recommended using the spinner to prevent repetitive strain injuries. The inspector said he was sorry and that had not occurred to him. I bought the one I had from a fork lift supply place and it bolted on. I always carried a few tools with me so I could uninstall it if I needed to and re-install it later.
Thank you so much Dave I have been looking for a spinner that works with these new type of wheels and hated the 8 ball spinners that come loose every time you touch it. Just purchased the Stealth model, hope it will be at home waiting for me on Friday when I get there! Appreciate all the advise you’ve given to everyone. I started with a mega carrier(Schneider) left them and am now with an employee owned esop company(Big G Express) making a lot more money and a heck of a lot happier! Stay away from mega carriers!
I'm impressed with this item. I'm currently using a product given to me by a friend whose husband passed away. The knob quickly attaches and removes but there is a problem with the mounting jig that remains attached to the steering wheel ring. It does create a problem periodically when it catches clothing or my hand when the wheel wipes back. This product has value. I don't use a spinner daily but there are times when it makes "jocking" a trailer into a tight space easier. Good video.
Fyi it is legal in every state other than some local ordinances in small towns. Also where can I get a usa made high quality spinner. The china 8 ball I got from loves the glue heated up in my hand, and the ball came off around a bend 20 min after installed! Now as for quick release, when i did recovery a quick release would have been nice but that ratchet strap would take my finger off the why I wheel. on my ih i am welding a tab on so i dont even have that pesky bolt. lol. great Idea, i was thinking of a way to make a quick release myself, but I can think of many less bulky ways...
Great video and I'm thinking about getting a spinner. I haven't seen a video on how to set up your mirrors on ur tractor in relation to the trailer ect if that makes sense. Is that something you could put up in the future. I was just curious cause I haven't seen it on ur channel. Thank you, stay safe and God bless brother
Nice video, as always. Here's my take on spinner knobs. 1.) Be glad your truck has power steering 2.) if you have rack and pinion steering, in the event of a frontal collision, backlash can cause the steering wheel to whip, resulting in injury to the hands, arms or even torso, if the driver is pitched forward. If you have driven an old farm tractor, you have experienced backlash . . . On the other hand (no pun intended), I like the idea ofthe Quick Knob Spinner. There are tight docks in which a driver can get a lot of exercise to the biceps trying to bump the dock (but keep the truck moving when cranking the steering wheel to avoid tire damage due to 'dry steering').
I've been told they are illegal many times but no one has ever produced any documentation or even an ordnance pertaining to this. I have personally never looked for any because my knob isn't going away even if it is illegal, just too much of a help to get rid of.
Evil Me Washington it can be a citation since you cant have steering attachments. I want one of these for my car and I want to give one to a buddy of mine. We both love to drive one handed. I think it would be neat to have.
Well,Dave, I have to be honest. I'm not a big fan of spinners, and I'll tell you why... when I first started driving, I was given a 1973 Freightliner Cabover with a spinner installed already. I was running bullrack at the time, and I thought oh yeah, that's great for backing into the cow loading shoot. The first time I went to back into it, the front wheel dropped into a hole, spun the steering wheel around, causing the spinner to catch my thumb and damn near ripped it off. Ever since then I've wanted nothing to do with spinners. But as always Dave great video.....
Those were the stories that I always heard, that drivers were suffering injured because of them. But ER always had spinners on the forklifts that we used in the yard. It made operating a lift so much easier.
Never had a problem ANYWHERE with one. Been stopped for it a few times, asked the officer to show me the reg in the book and none of them could ever find it. Dave
I have a 1947 John Deere and I found a spinner in my granpa’s junk. I showed it to my uncle and he immediately told me not to put it on there. He told me that since there wasn’t power steering I could hit a rock and break my wrist so I’ll just wait for my pickup.
Hey Bub! Loved the story telling at the end of the Lumper video yesterday. Absolutely Funny!!! Cracked me up. But Hey Dave, quick question. Many years ago when I was watching Smokey and the Bandit II Jerry Reed, SnoMan pulled into a gas station for fuel and asked the clerk if he had Diesel. My question is this. I'm only 26. Was coming by Diesel fuel as a trucker back in the 80's, 90's and before harder to come by than it is today? Today Diesel is practically everywhere? Was this ever an issue for you trying to find fuel back then? Thanks Cody
Valerie Chambliss “knuckle buster" because of the disadvantage posed by the knob when letting go of the steering wheel after going around a corner, the wheel spins rapidly and the knob can hit the user's knuckle, forearm, or elbow. also called "suicide knob" because of being notoriously useless for controlling the wheel during an emergency
Steve is right Valerie, but with power steering that's not really a problem. In the old days of arm strong steering, when those laws were made, it certainly was. Hurt like hell. Dave
Also I noticed they make trucks for short people, the the pedals are either too close or the wheel is to far away. If i dont have a spinner to rest my hand on i have to lean forward or sit with my legs cramped. (funny when i was a kid average height in Usa was 6', now its 5'9"., and honestly that wheel needs to be 3 inches closer)
Spinners are great if you have the old "armstrong " steering . You really shouldn't be moving that fast to where you need to crank the wheel that fast to begin with . Sorry Dave can't agree this time .

I love how they are banned in some places yet are perfectly legal to have if you are handicapped LOL
Good point! That's discrimination, isn't it? Dave

That's a neat idea...quick mount....looking forward to your endorsement of a particular wheel spinners...loll...

Love how fast it comes off!!

I do recommend this knob, it is awesome 👍

My favorite spinner is installed factory. It's called the palm of my hand.
Tb0n3 that's the way I learned from my father a veteran of P. I.E.
How do you choose where to place the spinner? I've seen them at 9 I've seen him at 3 I've seen them at 6 I even seen them at 12 o'clock.
I just put mine where it felt most comfortable for cranking the wheel around.
They have always been listed for sale at Canadian Tire in Ontario, Canada, but are they legal to use in Ontario or other Provinces in Canada?
Never had a problem ANYWHERE with one. Been stopped for it a few times, asked the officer to show me the reg in the book and none of them could ever find it. Dave

Might have to get one of these. We started slip seating at work and the crybaby I work with took mine off. Ugh.

It was tougher, especially on the backroads, depending on the state you were in. Dave
Thankyou,
Why are spinners banned in some states

Hi! Where do I find this?? website is not available anymore. Thank you..
They are available from our website, let us know if you have trouble finding them or getting on to our website Omar!
Is anyone ticketed for a steering wheel knob ? I heard that illegal
Thanks for the video ..

Is it well made? Like put it on and off everyday?
Yes it is! Dave
Be careful in New York DOT will give you a hard time if they see it.
I was told from a few people.... NEVER have one of those on your wheel.
I'd never be without one!

most megga carriers will not allow them
Don't tell them! Dave
