I won't lie, I buy a metric tape for easy use of millimeters. 20 plus 7 is 27, While 3/4 plus 5/16ths isn't as easy to quickly add. Lol..

I worked with sheetrock for a while but a decided to leave because I had problems with the tape.I bought one with numbers written down and now I work in a steel workshop and measuring is needed.With the tape and the video it helps a lot.Awesome video.
I had nephew working with me some years ago. He couldn't read a tape. After struggling with measurement translation all morning and trying to explain it to him I finally said to him: Ok so you don't sell 2 eighths, you sell quarter bag. And you don't sell 6 eighths, you sell 3/4 of an ounce. It hit him like a bolt of lightning and he never had a problem again.....lol..

Hey thanks I'm in grade 11 construction class, when I would of been in grade 12 con if I took it the year before but I didn't. Although I had troubles integrating into the new environment I really liked the atmosphere that the con room gave me. The only bad part was the measurements. I didn't understand them for I am Canadian and this is the only place I've saw us use inches to measure things. So this video really helped me out! Thanks man:D

Well for those of use who couldnt read a tape measure. I had a hard time paying attention in school, i went to a bad school where other kids couldnt learn and pay attention because there were always other kids who wanted to be a distraction to others in the classroom and act like clowns and it robbed be of alot through my younger school years. Sadly yes im 26 and didnt know how to read a tape measure till now, i coudl tell what a half inch and an inch was but as far as 16tha and 8ths nope lol. But I really appreciate you posting this and now i know it sounds easy. I feel I could really apply this teaching that i was robbed of a long time ago.
Now, just do a UA-cam search on how to learn correct English grammar, and you'll be all set to master the world. I'm sure there were people in your class who suffered the BS of their classmates and made it through to the other side without having to blame others for their adequateness. I know I did.

I don’t do wood work, but I’m a self taught crocheter and sewer and there’s a lot of measuring involved. I have never been good at math nd fraction, well say the least! Lol!!!! This has truly helped me to understand a tape measure so much better and see it with new eyes! I’m so happy!

I think that the one reason why many don't understand fractions is because they use pie charts in the schools to teach fractions. The problem with pie charts is that they don't represent real life examples such as the tape measure or the measuring cup that is used in cooking. The way the measurement breakdown was explained makes it easy to understand and makes the units clearer to see. Thank you for making and posting this video.

Watched your tape measure math because got embarrassed at my jobsite today lol. Told me to give 1/4” play from my measurement and i was dumbfounded. Just joined the Union and I’m definitely getting toyed around with as an apprentice. Just trying to do my best & learn but its hard when nobody does and just gives me slander for not knowing.

Good video. Don't forget about there is only 1 rule in reading a tape measure. Odd on Top and Even on Bottom. If you come up with a even number on top reduce both numbers by half until the top is odd and the bottom is even.
If you're knowledgeable in an any trade pass the torch down. Teach, and if you can teach for free. We need more tradesman. Thanks for the video man. I have a fractional craftsman cause I'm lazy to a fault but need to be prepared to use a non fractional tape measure one day.

I notice you are left-handed. That works well for you because tape measures in America are made for left-handed people. When you hold the pencil in your left hand and the tape in your right hand the numbers are right-side-up. A right handed person will find if he holds the pencil in his right hand and the tape in his left the numbers will be upside-down. Perhaps that is a reason why so many right-handed people have trouble with tape measures. Also, it would be helpful if manufacturers offered tape measures in either right- or left- handed models.
Say WHAT!? LMAO In THE WHOLE WORLD, the tape measures have lines on both sides. You must be referring to those tape measures than actually have the 1/8, 1/4, etc on the tape. That don't determine "left handed" . I surely hope you have the maximum insurance you can get after you typed that.
