Very real, genuine person. Surprisingly not a wine snob, being that he's a winemaker.

I live near the area where Thackrey produced and first sold his wine. About 10-12 years ago I stumbled on a bottle of it, and proceeded to have one of the most profound experiences I have ever had. Not "great wine, oh wow," no. Consciousness-changing. I "saw" into things through the senses, not the mind. But it's not in every bottle, you can't buy that as a "product." It was a confluence of many factors and conditions, including my own state of mind and chemistry and the weather-locale-context, and it instilled in me a sober (!) respect for the Now and the Real. It was deep winter and I was with a friend. Everything I perceived was altered into a rather psychedelic sense. The only other time I experienced that from drinking any kind of alcohol was homemade Cuban rum in Cuba. Like all those who do great things (big or small) in this world, Thackrey was willing to focus, surrender, and live, really live-- not by the book, but by _________!

I love this guy's attitude, it's impressive for such a down to earth person to thrive in such an overly pretentious field.

Loved this video. I'm really missing the 'Obsessives' series in the latest updates. Really wish that it would make a come-back.

Awesome ideas, clear thinking, and awesome wine. If you haven't tried a Thackrey wine, try to get your hands on some. The Pleiades, on release is only between 20 and 30 bucks, but it is consistently one of my favorties wines.

01:26 - he's pouring from a bottle covered in duct tape which extends to the rim of bottle. So you are getting traces of adhesive from the back of the tape into your wine.

I really like this guy...he reminds me of an old friend. Not necessarily a real friend I have, just the way he speaks to the camera and how it was directed. Well, done. Impressive library! But let's be frank here...the man has a group that meets just to keep Latin alive. See, that's cool.

10:12 A framed case of Paleolithic projectiles (points). I have a feeling he may have found them while planting those Pinot Noir cuttings.

Hello: May i ask a question. Please, can you tell me where i can find the preservative for wine. I believe i have a wine in the making, the only thing missing for preserving the wine is the preservative.

Pleiades is noted between 13:46 and 14:42. You can see the label at 14:27.

I love his position on terroir, I agree every vineyard is different and ones are better and there are so many things that can effect the berries. The soil, the light, the way the sun hits it or if a cool fog rolls in in the morning. But, just say that don't label such a vague word. Also, you can take the same grapes to two wine makers and they will give to different grapes.

Your incorrect observation is precisely the product of what has gone wrong in recent times. Someone who has dedicated literally thousands of hours to becoming better at a craft they are passionate about, cannot even talk about it without running the risk of being labeled a "pretentious douche."

That's how the Syrah grows in hot, hot Cali! It's a sign of a great winemaker to know exactly how to deal with those numbers.

Those brix levels have been standard since the late 90s, especially after they identified leafroll virus was inhibiting photosynthesis in California.
