I'll be sharing her independent subjects that include literature, math, language arts, spelling, typing, handwriting and history. We also do group subjects like Bible and science that I will share in other videos, so stay tuned. I’d love a flip through of BJU Literature 6 and the BJU reading you are doing with your rising 4th and 2nd graders!!! 😊

    Awesome video! I’m glad I’m not the only one that doesn’t require my kids to do cursive besides their handwriting books for school!☺️

    We switched to BJU English and reading last year (we also picked up their spelling and math) because of the same reasons. My oldest is a perfectionist and usually gets most things correct. We came from tgtb and her understanding of the structure of writing different types of essays was lacking as well as the process of writing a paper from the beginning to end. She is such a strong writer now. They lay it out so well. I think you’ll love it.
    We also started their reading for the comprehension questions. It was something she needed. It’s not her favorite and there are days that are extremely challenging because she wasn’t used to having to critically think so much about literature, but I’ve seen so much improvement.
    We now used BJU from 2nd up and I would not change it. The English is our absolute favorite.

      Hi! I’m so happy to see this comment!🌟
      I’ve recently decided to move into BJU for all our subjects this next school year and I’m feeling confident in my decision! I’ve seen so many positive comments on that curriculum and I’m excited to start.

    We love BJU! This fall will be our 4th year using their spelling, English, and Literature.
    This year with my daughter on year 5 of the Literature we had to slow down and only do half. That does not bother me tho and I’ve got level 6 ready to go when we do finish.
    My Son is doing the 4 levels of All about Reading but when they are finished we will move over to BJU Lit level 3. I think comprehension is very important. We don’t rush it.

    We’re working through BJU English 6 now. It’s challenging but overall my son likes it. I love BJU anyway, so I’m biased, lol. It reminds me of how I learned and what I used when I was teaching.

    We have that same Fix It Grammar for our daughter for the fall. It will be our first time using it. I love the way it is set up and I'm excited about it for sure! Thanks for the mini flip throughs!

    GATB typing worked so much better for my kids than the online programs we tried. I think with the online programs there are a lot of games, so my kids worry more about speed than accuracy. I think GATB helps them first with accuracy, and speed comes with accuracy. They did do some online typing again after doing GATB typing and that worked out much better for improving speed rather than teaching skills.

    Would you be willing to make a video on your daily schedule for each grade. You have so many amazing items in this video and I can’t figure out how you will fit it all in! I am so Type A and have always done Abeka, but this is the first year I am piecing our homeschool curriculum for what works best for each child and I am so anxious about it. It seems like you are so seasoned in that aspect so I would love to see how you lay this all out in a day. Thanks.

    My 6th grade son did TGTB LA 6 and Fix it Grammar Robin Hood this past year. My 3rd grader did the Nose Tree, and it was a stretch for her. However, you may find that it’s a bit too easy for your 6th grader.
    Thanks for sharing your curriculum picks-can’t wait to hear how they work out 😊

      She’s good at grammar but doesn’t LOVE fix it grammar, and it’s actually a challenge for her. So i think the next level will definitely meet her where she’s at

    Computer courses per your request…. My 3rd & 5th grader are going to work through all the easy peasy computer levels. Like you said, we don’t think to teach them some of these basic items and it breaks it down nicely.
    My son is also going to be doing Solo Learn to learn Java, then take a udemy Java course after that.

    I actually just saw masterbooks has several computer classes... A photographery class, a family Spanish class and others! They look pretty nice. Not sure if that's the direction your daughter could be going but it's worth a look! 😊

    Thank you for the BJU flip through. Do you feel your daughter likes it more the The good and the Beautiful Language Arts?

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler
      @thepracticalhomeschooler  5 місяців тому

      She said she likes BJU because it’s more to the point and TGTB is “too flowery” (she’s my no nonsense child lol) but she didn’t mind TGTB when she did it. So I think it depends on your child and what style they prefer

    My son got halfway through TGTB Math 5 this year and it is becoming too overwhelming! I'm debating TT level 6 or 7. Looking at the table of contents, level 6 looks pretty easy. I know you mentioned in your video that it is a lot of review. Is she getting bored with it or is it boosting her confidence? I'm having my son do the trial of level 6 right now before we break for summer but looking at the level 7, it doesn't look much harder!

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler
      @thepracticalhomeschooler  Рік тому

      I did let her skip some lessons, because she had way mastered it already. She's about halfway through now and it's still review, but I'm glad she's getting the review to help cement those skills before moving on. She'll probably finish math 6 over the summer and start math 7 closer to the beginning of this coming school year.

    We tried ctc math online. Maybe check that?
    It teaches, grades.
    You can add tasks to it. So if she needs more practice on something you can add that.
    They also have a few game options.
    Maybe check that out for her instead of teaching textbooks?
    I also am moving more towards independent so i can focus a little more on my starting Kindy and starting 2nd grader.
    I hope she does well and thrives!
    I love the idea of doing just fix it grammar on Friday.
    Are you ready for your little baby?

    Did you say your daughter was doing teaching textbooks math 7 in 5th grade? Or will she be doing math 7 for 6th grade?

    • @user-vg8ez9cu6u
      @user-vg8ez9cu6u Рік тому

      Think she's saying they were dissatisfied with TGATB Math 5, so she had her daughter test to determine placement in TT. Daughter tested into Math 7, but mom wants to slow her down, so she has her doing TT grade 6 right now (which the child says is too easy/all review).
      Many argue that TT is a grade level behind in rigor, which is probably why she tested into grade 7 when she's entering grade 6. It may not be a bad thing for her to stay in TT6 if there is concern about gaps in math education after exiting TGATB mid-year. HTH.

    So how did you like the bju writing? So far its toward the top of my list, but i want to know if they will be writing 5 paragraph essays? For some reason, it seams the christian-based curriculum are working on paragraphs for 6th grade, but thats below the state standard, and she was writing 5 paragraph essays in 4th grade public school and i want to make aure we dont go backwards

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler
      @thepracticalhomeschooler  2 місяці тому

      I’ll give a full review soon but I work on the writing together with my 4th and 6th grader and they’ve been doing 5 paragraph essays from pretty much the beginning. (I obviously require more detail/higher quality of my 6th grader) but they’ve come a long way this year
