My son wanted a yo-yo so I bought him a nice expensive one. We did not know you had to bind it to get it to come up lol. but it only took about 5 mins for us both to get the hang of it. this was 15 years ago.
I'm trying to get over the flinch factor of getting into horizontal. Everytime I have a good lead up to set my first move, my head automatically goes "NooooOOOPE!!" and immediate reacts messing up my attempts. I really have to give it to you pros for getting over that reflex. That's a brutal one!
I had a tutorial on horizontal yoyoing a while back. My advice would be not to throw super horizontally at first. Just throw a little horizontally and slowly work your way up.

The yoyo i got has 2 types of bearings, one allows the yoyo to be very responsive so the yoyo comes back up with a slight tug, and the other bearing makes it a dead yoyo so it spins longer and has no reaction to tugs, hence it being called dead.
We really gotta make one of those with a kind of lock, could be actuated with a specific kind of string tug or perhapse from the string hitting the yoyo or something, could be magnetic who knows, i still think it's a good idea
